Ang .. the heat index down here is 113.  I did like lots of others, I went to the mall.  Needed a new pair of shorts for the trip next month.  My dogs are inside too.  I let them out to pee and then bring them back in .. it's too hot outside, they just sit in the shade and pant.

Rosemary .. glad your scan went well.  Was thinking about you this a.m.  Did you get your new driver's license card yet?

Think I'll catch up on all I missed while I was gone.

    hugs,

    Bren

Athena - I have a major headache right now but I thought it was from a lack of caffeine so I just fixed myself a cup of hot tea.  Not the best thing for such a hot day.

Now I have to rethink the reason I have a headache - thanks so very much NOT! Laughing

Okay .. just got my favorite diet pepsi from the bar.  After reading the thread in the mods forum, I need to chill out a bit.  I hope Newme doesn't leave.  I think she's smart and well spoken and it would be such a loss if she leaves us.

I was surprised to once again see someone mention "their homies" on that thread.  What in the hell is the point?  I'm at a loss.

Sorry for the gals who have a headache .. wouldn't surprise me if this nasty weather isn't contributing to some of your pain.  Take a pain pill or get a drink from the bar and let's cool down.  I vote we go visit Barbara on the beach and listen to a little good music and watch the ocean for awhile!

    hugs,

    Bren

Bren - I would love to take a Percocet but I have to ride my horse this afternoon.  However, a few hours at the barn and I will be totally rejuvenated mentally and ready to hit it again.

Back when I was a kid......Using the term homies was considered very offensive and racist along with the "N" word.  What I found out a couple of years ago is that white kids are calling their white friends "N...." and Homies all of the time now.  I can't keep up with what is politically correct anymore.

I used the term hispanic on another forum board and was told that this word was offensive and I should use the term Latino.  In the next 5 years it will be something else.

From the BCO rules - here'a toast to Rule number 6:

You agree not to defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights of others. You agree not to post messages that contain material that is inappropriate, unlawful, hateful, profane, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, or indecent.

Athena - would you consider profane comments to be one such as DCIS is not cancer?  I am not trying to put you on the spot but rather it should be a question to anybody.  Can we report insane posts that can cause harm to others or would it come back on us that it is just "opinion"

Where can we draw the line?

I probably need to get my dictionary out again Embarassed

Is using the term "homies" defamatory?  Think I better check my dictionary on that.  It seems to be a racist comment to me .. I'm going to look up homies too.

    Back in second.

EDITED:  Loosely it means friends in the Latino culture.

I would not consider the mere statement that DCIS is not cancer a violation of the rules, no. Those things are bound to happen in a forum like this. There is nothing against making misstatements. That doesn't mean they are not aggravating, and if I were a moderator I would take measures if it kept happening. I was also offended at the war on science such a statement represented, and at the hurt it could cause. But it doesn't break a BCO rule.

The posts in that forum that broke the rules did not do so because of the assertions they made but because of the personal attacks they levied. Also, they may have broken copyright laws in at least once case.

And speaking of copyright laws, here is rule number 8:

8.You agree not to violate the intellectual property rights of others, and you agree not to post any content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights of any party.

Many of us have probably broken that one, but some people do repeatedly. Worse, they even publish pieces with no attribution.

Any threat is a rulebreaker, IMO. Any threat.

blue thanks for the info on homies. In the chicago area it's used by many groups of people just to say we're friends.

I read that too Kira .. guess the point the poster was trying to make was "a group of friends."  So not such a bad thing afterall.

Guess all you guys on this thread are my 'homeboys" cause you're all my friends!  I need to get more "with it."  I did, however, teach Mr. Tim how to do the Dougie!  So I'm not all that behind the times!

    MACADAMIA NUTZ -

I don't know who cyle-path is, but I wish I had a modicum of her wisdom.  Loved the "slap shot" theory she explained.

Also, for those of you, please don't bother, not reading the latest Road Kill thread - I just posted what I think the Moderators are doing, with their "limiting the number of pictures" etc.

It is called, for those of you not in Communications or Public Relations, and goes back into versions from the 1890's - THE BUG LETTER

A wealthy gentleman was badly bitten by bugs while riding on a certain railway line. Arriving at his destination, he wrote the company an indignant letter and received a prompt reply. It was, said the letter, the first complaint the company had ever had of this nature. Inquiry had failed to reveal any explanation for this unprecedented occurrence. Nevertheless, a number of new precautions were being taken to make absolutely certain such an unfortunate incident never happened again. The letter was signed by a high official of the railway.

The gentleman was well satisfied with this reply and was returning it to the envelope when a slip of paper fell out onto the floor. The hastily scribbled note on it read: "Send this guy the bug letter."

And, of course, attacks on ISY, YSN.  What is it women don't understand about a Forum: Growing Our Friendships After Treatment.  And, if after reading many f the posts in a thread, you don't seem to hold the same opinions of those women, why would you want to be friends with them?

Trying to avoid the dreaded "them" and "us" - because I am in AWE of how welcoming every woman here is when a new person says "I've been reading, laughing at your jokes ( ok I didn't get the fly lightulb one without help!!) so I just wanted to say "hi" - not I'm here to attack and make fun of your political views, attack individuals in public life I KNOW you all respect, admire..

oh, I will sit on my paws...cold ided tea, please!
