Athena, LOVE your feelings about "hot" - did iyou forget to mention R.M. NixonKiss

Mary - can you tell me a little about Restorative Yoga, how different is it from Hatha, which I what I do.

Blue - YOU are a Hero - that's all I can say.  COURAGEOUS, inspiring, and, if I were able to get to your August Event - it would be a PLEASURE to be one of your "extra arms."  I have a dear, dear friend with MS, and it's kinda nice to walk, as so many do in Europe, arm in arm, without getting "funny" looks.

If it's getting hot in the hills of western ma, and humid, I can't even imagine, tho I've lived thru it, what you are facing Athena!  RANT ON.

Would like to change the topic but......I HATE THIS WEATHER!  It has gone on too long I am wishing for Fall (I feel like a traitor - seems like my fellow Canadians aren't bothered by this heat) - I ate goat once and it was wonderful it was in a Vietnamese restaurant in Calgary almost 30 years ago - I didn't know it was goat until after I'd eaten it (they are soooo cute) but heck I eat lamb all the time (and I try not to think of Lamb Chop when I do).

I am having my port removed today - don't know what the hurry is (it's been in for three years, two months......) was told by the nurse yesterday that it'll be a "piece of cake" (how would she know) - here's hoping.

    Stay cool everyone.

Sandy, good luck on port removal.

CS, here's a description of restorative yoga:  Restorative yoga is a deeply relaxing way of practicing yoga. Given props, the student achieves poses without much muscular strength, facilitating deep release in the connective tissue and calming the nervous system. Teachers may offer a meditative focus to relax the mind.

So it is similar to Hatha, except that you have some props to help you stretch your body even more.

I prefer to do the more challenging yoga in the morning and the restorative in the evening.  I find the restorative yoga amazing for stretching my whole body.  It is especially helpful if you have any back, balance or other health problems since the movements are very slow and relaxing.

Here comes my whiny weather post of the day.

It's 55 and overcast here in Seattle. We've only had 78 minutes of temps over 80 degrees this "summer" according to The Seattle Times.

Behind in my posting but I'm sure everyone wants to hear what I think about goats:  Tongue out

Goats= YUMMY!!!  Meat has less bad fat than other meats.  Trick is to braise it.  We buy goat regularly from a woman at our farmer's market--we buy stew meat, we buy legs, we buy sausage, we buy ground. Yum, Yum, Yum.

Goats at the zoo are female---no king of the hill problems, no peeing, pet away.

Goats milk is fine too---mild taste, not particularly goaty and good for people who can't deal with cow milk.  We used to get it for our oldest monster who is lactose intolarant.

Raising goats---I had aspirations of being a goat cheese maker. Bought a kit, bought a book and went to a class.  Then I discovered that goats must be milked 2x a day everyday.  No holidays off or sundays.  Brilliant person that I am, I realized this would put quite a cramp in my urges to travel for weeks at a time.  Bye bye goat cheese farm.

Goat Cheese---nowadays there are some fantastic small producers of excellent goat cheese all over the country.  In Seattle one of my favorites is Madison Farm which is on Bainbridge Island.  If anyone has an interest, I am happy to consult one of my way too many books on cheese in North america.

Goats eatting weeds---very popular here in the NW.  You can even get them to come and clean up your hillside.  Perhaps our goats are more mellow--they are well known for chomping down the infamous Himalayan Blackberry with glee.  Not familiar with too many problems.  the goats in Portland were surrounded by an okay fence.  The space was rather large and the goats looked happy enough.

Now for my brilliant thoughts on yoga Wink

I took my first yoga class last fall and liked it. I have no idea what flavor of yoga it was but the class was in the evenings.  I'm not sure what it did but I didn't feel so stiff and came home quite relaxed.  I continued through spring and planned to never stop.  I even bought a mat and blocks and yoga clothes!  Wouldn't you know, the teacher didn't have sufficient enrollment to continue the course during the summer. grrr.  I have a coupon for another yoga class through Groupon but haven't had time to sign up.

YramAL  I read that part about 78 minutes over 80 and find it questionable.  I am pretty sure it was  more like 87 minutes. . .. .Tongue out  The tomatoes and basil are ever so sad but the shallots and cooler things like lettuce are doing nicely.  Me I am alternating between insisting it is summer so I shall wear summer things (capri pants and short sleeve shirts and sandels along with summery scarves like yesterday ) to work versus oh fine be that way, I surrender days like today (long corduroy pants and shirt and silk/wool shrug)  I can only imagine what those of you in the heat bubble think when you read I am not only wearing long pants but cordoroy and woolish sweaters as you all ponder how little you can wear without being arrested or scaring the horsesInnocent

Sandy, good luck on the port!

In my neighborhood, which is in a city, not the country, there is a couple who has 3 goats. They walk them around the nieghborhood on leashes, like dogs, and take them down to the Interurban Trail to nibble on the blackberries and salal. The first time our dog saw them when we were out on a walk, she kind of did a double take-huh? They wanted no part of the "sniff and greet" ritual that my dog is used to.

3monstmama-you're probably right about 87 minutes rather than 78. And for those 87 minutes, all the people who hate heat griped about it.

Mary - do you use a DVD.  I just got one, btw: Thriving Yoga: Yogas for Breast Cancer - from surviving to thriving  www.yogaforcancer.com

    Stay cool as possible, everybody...

    YramAL,

How funny!  We have goats near us too.  And I'm at the south end of Lake Washington so its not the country either.  There are two of them and the owners sometimes walk them in the park.  I only know of the one set of goats but LOTS of houses with chickens including at least one house with a rooster (technically not allowed) which I hear in the mornings when I walk to the train.

My youngest monster is dying to have chickens.  I understand it is far easier to get "chicken sitters" than goat sitters since tradition allows City Chicken sitters to keep the eggs. . . .

CS, I don't use a DVD.  I go to a yoga lounge near my area.  I am going this evening, and I will ask the instructor if she could recommend a DVD.  Your DVD sounds interesting!  Have you tried it?  How does it differ from regular yoga?

One of my fave summer drinks is a cold latte.  It gives me my cafeine fix and cools me off.

I hope everyone finds a way to stay cool today.

Bren, those are my two cats sleeping next to each other on a couch.  Aren't they adorable?

It is hot here too.  I am staying indoors today.  I need to water my garden, but I will do that later this evening.

Does anyone know how to add photos from my desktop?  I would love to show you some photos of my furbabies.

Covertanjou, I remember when your beautiful little white kitty Nala went missing.  Did Nala ever come home?  I think about her often, because she reminded me of my own dear Spot.

L, no our beautiful Nala never came back.  There are foxes in the forest close to our home, and I think (shudder) that a fox may have taken her.  I spent months looking for her.  I try to think that a wonderful family took her in, but....We still miss her.

We got another kitten cause our older cat, Hobbes, was so depressed when Nala disappeared.  My avatar is Hobbes and Tara sleeping together.

Ohhh, I am so sorry to hear that about Nala.  I do so hope that she was taken in by a loving family!  I am so sorry for you -- I know how much I love my fur children and miss the ones who have gone!

Your avatar is so precious -- I think it is wonderful that Hobbes is happy to have a companion!  Nothing like a nice pile o' cat to make a house a home!

Thanks ladies for your good wishes - the port is gone and funny thing I don't miss it AT ALL!

It was quick and quite painless and I've been home for two hours - honestly I was only there for a half hour or less I was the first surgical patient of the afternoon so it worked out just fine.

The Dr. told me she used dissolving stitches so no return visit - only caution was to take it easy for the next 48 hours - she actually mentioned no vacuuming - that cracked me up so I won't vacuum (yay!)

Going to make myself an iced latte.  Later, Sandy

Mary .. you have to use a site like Photobucket to download your pics here.  You download them to Photobucket, then use the link from there to post the pics here.  Or you can post them on FB from your desktop, then just copy and paste the pics here from Facebook.

If you need help .. let me know and I'll try to walk you through it.

Jancie - That's right, dressage.  You'd told me that but since I always wanted to be an eventer I naturally assume you must be one.  :-)

I love goats.  Have y'all seen the fainting goats?  When they get startled their external muscles freeze and they fall over.  There are a zillion You Tubes out there for fainting goats.  Quite  funny!

I live outside Baltimore and the temp here is 1,000,006.  Approximately.  On the plus side, I got to have laughing gas at my dentist's office this morning and it was DA BOMB.  Forget alcohol - open some laughing gas bars!

Jancie .. I love dressage.  The hunter/jumper or cross country is just too scary for me to watch.  My sis used to ride hunter/jumper until she broke her tib/fib in a million places a couple of years ago.  She's still got all the pins and plates in her leg.  She tried for awhile after the spill, but just couldn't keep going with it.

E .. love the idea of adding laughing gas to the BCO Bar & Grill.  Glad all went well at the dentist today.

    Sandy

The port removal is notbad at all. Congrats.

Icky, icky, nasty heat. It was 87 F when I got to Art Fair at 9:30 and 95 when I left at 2:00. I stayed hydrated and bought a bunch of stuff including a sundress and a wrap around skirt. All I could think was this will be cooler than what I'm wearing. I  was just dripping wet and we left before the hottest part of the day.

I used to go to Art Fair every year but haven't been in at least 5 years. It was a lot of fun but it is huge and I saw less than half of it because it was so dang hot.

Hal had to work in Ann Arbor today and he didn't do any shopping but we did go to lunch (in the A/C ahhh...)

I had a headache and took a nap when I got home. I get headaches when the A/C blows right on me but there was no way we were turning it off or even down in the car.

Then the stupid hospital called to update my records before my MUGA scan and the knot in my stomach is back. I feel really dumb it is just a MUGA scan .

Muga scan tomorrow. The last one was normal but I had an echocardiogram that was a litle below normal since. The onc orders MUGAs, the cardiologist orders echos. I know it is comparing apples to oranges but I don't like that the results of the last scan were worse than the one before.and I feel like we're doing dueling heart scans here.

ETA Everyone is welcome to come
