Funky blood tests

Options

Hoping there is someone out there who can help with some blood results I had last week.

I've been experiencing dizziness and headaches almost daily, and a general feeling of malaise/fatigue for about 6 weeks. I saw my onc last week, and he did a CT of my head which was clear. He did mention that my iron stores were depleted (ferritin was a 6 in March) and I'm anemic. (HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH all low, but not drastically). I will start iron infusions next week. Anyway- I was busy scheduling all of this, and forgot to ask for my copies of labs. I called up and had them faxed over, and noticed the following:

Globulin 4.8 (ref range 2.3-3.5)

Albumin 3.4 (ref range 3.5-5.5)

A/G ratio 0.7 (range 1.1-2.1)

I googled this, and it said that an A/G ratio below 1 is indicative of liver problems. The other protein results are also linked to liver ... makes me a bit worried.  Anyone know what these results could mean or have experience with results like this? Thanks!

I don't know about the test scores, but I've also been having a muzzy-headed feeling every day, accompanied by dizziness and low-level nausea. Is that how you would describe the headaches you're getting? I just feel thick-headed and woozy.

Keep us posted on what you find out!

    hugs,

    Hi Janine,

Globulin also has to do with anemia, Albumin can be used to try to find a nutritonal deficiency, and A/G ratio is a combined overview of both of them, and is also used to check for kidney and liver problems.  It sounds like they are trying to find out why you are anemic, and if it could just be a simple change in diet Wink

    Hang in there!

I have liver mets and my blood tests are normal.   Ask your doc but there are lots of causes of funky blood and they can fluctuate too.  My reds, for example, have never been within normal range in my entire life, including pre-cancer.  :)

Thanks Sue & Ann, that is comforting. Smile

Yes Jenny, that is what I have been feeling. Woozy, hard to concentrate, and sometimes dizzy. How has your bloodwork been? One of the doctor's I work with also suggested having my thyroid levels checked, so I will get that done as well. Good luck to you!

Are you eating properly? Looks to me like you may be manlourished.

lol, I know - a lot of that pointed to malnourishment, but no - I am WELL nourished! I have had a hard time losing the 15 pounds I've put on since chemo.

I eat a pretty balanced diet.

I'll check with the onc 8/8/11 at my next visit.

jdeking--my next onc visit is on 8/4, so I guess I'll have my blood tests done then. They have all been fine--last time I think I was still a little low on the blood counts (still recovering from chemo).

And the headaches are the same every day. Frustrating!
