Today, I had a six-month screen - trans-vaginal ultrasound, pelvic exam, and CA-125 blood test.  Ultrasound and pelvic exam good, I'll get the CA-125 results in a couple of days.  I explained to the high-risk clinic doctor that I was not ready to have my ovaries removed just yet.

She hands me a prescription for oral contraceptives, with the explanation that they do provide protection against ovarian cancer because they stop ovulation.

I stop her and remind her that my DCIS was ER/PR+.  She felt that breast cancer recurrence of any kind was a non-issue since I had my breasts removed.

Do I fill the bcp script?   Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions.

NO!!!!!! I was told we can never be on birth control again. I am on a monthly shot called Zoladex. It keeps my ovaries shut down. I am 34 and going through chemical meno pause. :(  I would not take the birth control. I thik birth control is what gave me my cancer. Take care.

My gut reaction exactly.  I'm resistant to putting anything in my body aside from food (and that's real food - no processed chemical garbage).  And I think bcp might fall in the category of processed chemical garbage.

I remember doing some kind of survey on line (I know--not reliable), in which my chances of BC increased because I had been on birth control pills during the last 5 years.

    I'd ask your oncologist.
