My Favorite Childhood Memory is.....

I am so glad, so many of you are enjoying this thread. I really thought with all of the downside of BC, we needed a little travel back in time, to relive some happy memories, that is why I started it!
NANCY....I love the drive in movies!! We still have one in my town, and a few in my area! I made it a point to take my kids every summer at least once. We did the same thing, in the pj's...and the back of the station wagon! Those nights were such great memories for me! I have been to SAO Schwartz...I think the slide is gone. : ( How much fun that had to be! I love NYC. I work for an airline, so I love to take, even a day trip there!
STANZIE....you have to find that drive in this summer and GO!!! I have to agree with you...this is a different time and place....I think it's sad that so many children will not experience the simple things that we did!
KEEP THE MEMORIES COMING!!

whoops....I meant FAO Schwartz!
-
Foots...when money was tight, when my girls were little...we did pork and beans often! They do taste better with the beans!
-
I grew up in Arkansas and I loved playing with my friends and riding my bike all day long.... we would stay out all day until dinner time or the sun set. This is a great thread .... Thank you
-
Tracie...I remember those long summer days.....when the street lights came on...we had to come home!
-
my3girls: I can just see it and it seems so nice... waking up and smelling fresh cut grass, running through the sprinkler what I would give to be doing that right now. My girlfriend and I used to pretend the Bee Gees were our boyfriends... it was a fight for Barry or Andy ( poor Robin) LOL
-
Tracie...glad you like the thread.
I have to say, I liked Andy. I also had a crush on Davie...from the Monkeys! lol. Also batman....so funny.
-
My kids found the old Batman on TV last week and we all were dying of laughter! So hilarious!
-
I remember sleeping late in the summer waking up with the aroma of coffee perking. The sound, perk, perk, perk, was so comforting and the smell so delicious. We have definitely lost something with the coffee makers now a days.
And watching fireworks on the fourth of July
And playing kick the bucket after dark
And roasting marshmallows
Thanks for bringing those memories back.

I remember being a little girl born and raised in the city (Philadelphia), and these are the things we did........no ipods, no video games, no Wii, no cell phones, just us and the good outdoors.............
Hopscotch, Kitty in the Corner, Buck, Buck, Freeze Tag, Red Rover, Double Dutch, Roller Skating, Skates that you put on your shoes, and tightened them with a skate key........Penny Candy....Tastykake's when they were 7 cents, and you got 3 in a pack.........Your swimming pool was the garden hose......Everyone ate dinner together.........Families all lived in the same town........Saturday matinee's, Catching lightning bugs.....Punks to keep the mosquitoes away in the summer............
Guess I better stop now, I'm getting lonesome for the good old days.
Guess I better

I know!!! I so worry about all the technology our kids are overwhelmed with..... Teenagers are even harder to try and get away from technology. Trying to remember what all I did as a teenager??
OK, so what are punks? I could use something for mosquitoes!
-
Stanzie............I'm from Pa., actually there is a very thick weed that grows in the swamps called "cat tails"........you pick them, dry them out, and when they are dry you can light them, and they put off a smoke that keeps the mosquito's away. They are thick in size.
Now that is the old fashion version of a Punk........The newer ones are very narrow, stiff, and have a wood like stem....You can buy them in a pack, light them, and the do the same thing, only our version was "cost free"....Leave it to the older generation to find a cheaper way.

I remember my Dad coming home from work. I'd be outside playing and I would watch him park his car and I'd run and he'd catch me and raise me in the air..then he gave me a dime for a fudge pop.
Love and miss my Dad!!!
-
Stopping the Popsicle man with a dime and getting a big
icecream cone.
-
Going to my Brownies Group, I felt so big
being in I thought big girls group. Thats when
You went to help people at their homes and
now they dont as much.
-
We would play jump rope, rich man, poor man, baker man,
theif Dr, lawyer, Indian Chief and You were going to marry
the man whenever you missed
-
I remember making my hand print in 1th grade and
put I love you mom and our teacher had them finished
for Mothers day
-
I remember playing kick the can and
hide and go seek alot.
-
Watching the Addams Family and Micky Mouse
-
Finding a rock that is like chalk and draw on the sidewalk
-
Watching Sheri Lewis and her puppet Lamb chops
-
Going in the car to the A&W Rootbeer Drive-in and
watch the lady skate to us to get our order.
-
Watching the light of the airplanes coming in, We lived on Airforce bases
alot.
-
Moving our arms up and down to make the truck drivers honk for us.
Crawling on top of the barn roof on a clear night to lay down and count the stars
Camping out in the back yard and telling ghost stories to see which of us would get scared first and go running in to Mama.Once one of us started screaming and running we all took off for the house and then would pretend we just needed to go to the bathroom or get a drink
-
I remember camping in the back yard, I have 2 brother and
they would scare me to go get the cookie and water.
-
Trying to catch fireflies and then we let them go
all at once. It was a beautiful sight.
-
Seeing the stars at Girl Scout camp, as
we sat around the fire and sang.
-
Hey, Foots, I also went to GS camp! Singing around the campfire is hokey to some people but I loved it. I think it's what started my love of singing.

-
Remember when the Girl Scout cookies were 75cents a box?
I love to remember learning to skate and lost my skate key.
found it later.
-
Walking on the beach, not worrying if there
was glass or litter were you walked. Not all
