Nancy.....our cats look similar, doncha think?

Good point, Britchik. It illustrates what we mostly know: we ask when we want validation, not when we want to be "led to water". It was pretty clear she'd made her mind up at time of post, I think you and I and a bunch of other folks here were really torn when that was clear.
My doctor said he deals with at least a few women like this every year. At the beginning, it used to crush him. He finally realized that he'd never been successful in changing someone's mind. Something about cancer, I guess, being so serious, folks are more dug in than usual.
Though,I still think anyone who wasn't Stage 3 and under 40 doleing out advice for her not to do chemo should have a hard time sleeping.
-
Joy, I'd consider a PM, but honestly, my posts on that thread were mostly met with hostility. I am pretty sure she's not interested in hearing from me.
-
I just PMed WOM, no strings attached, just to say hi, let her know I was thinking of her.
-
Deanna:
I am really interested in the research on alcohol for IDC and ILC. Have you found it?
-
Omaz, my understanding is that Ubinol (sp?) Co-Q10 is supposed to be absorbed better. That Co-Q10 absorption can be greatly effected by what you eat or drink it with and the Ubinol version not so much and better absorbed. How true that is I don't know but the physician who advised me to take it thought it made a big difference.

kmmd - thanks!

Just wanted to let you all know, I asked the Mods to close the thread I started, when individuals started to post Chemotherapy bashing propaganda. Britchik has said a lot of what I feel. I think it's time for the MOds to have a FORUM: Complementary and Integrative - which would cover everything we are discussing here too. I tried to have the other thread be more about specifics, for those newly diagnosed, the first steps, what worked for us, but it soon degnerated into more of the same ole, same old propaganda. Sad.
THere could be a FORUM for Alternative, Holistic - and Chemo Bashing.
Would mean I wouldn't have to use the ignore button, too. Hope all are having a good weekend.
-
Caerus it seems that the same (one) person is causing the trouble here. Why not have everyone ignore the posts and stop bringing attention to them. IMO if it's purpose is to enrage and cause trouble best to ignore. Everyone has the right to post as long as it doesn't break the rules. This person is not breaking the rules just being rude.
-
Lago: well, it starts with one person, and I DO use the ignore button on other threads, but when I go to a thread which I started, with the intentions as I stated in the OP of that thread, I feel a responsibility to read what is being posted there. It's not worth that effort to me. I'm very priviledged, I know that, to have access to excellent doctors, and about anything I need or even want at Dana Farber.
When information is posted which can not be conradicted without calling the refutations "bullying" it's just not worth my effort to continue in that atmosphere. I feel sorry for BC.org for having to deal with this, but I feel sorrier for the women who, newly diagnosed and possibly desperate, are midguided and given such dangerous information.
I have wonderul, wonderful friends on these boards, and can continue to share information and experiences when I want to. Just sorry not to be able to share more of the resources I've been given with others. I think it's worse than, rude, but we'll let rude cover it

There is also much info saying ILC is especially affected by alcohol.
-
2T .. you were pretty harsh on Sunflowers .. what was the point anyway? No need to be hurtful.

Here is something I found about ILC and alcohol.
-
2T .. I think Sunflowers is just disappointed in the way the thread she created ended up. I honestly don't think she means any harm with her posts ... just maybe frustrated. My guess is she'll just let it go now.

Best cooking oil - recommendations? I use extra virgin olive oil for most anything, but not when I make pancakes or something like that. Any recommendationa??
-
Bren
HAPPY HAPPY to let it go - and now can use my ignore button. Let someone else try to talk sense re: Complementary and Integrative Healing. Sunflowers
eta: LOL at the "psychoanalysis" in the edit to the post Bren refers to....just LOL ;-)))))
-
Omaz, I use canola oil.
-
2T .. just to clarify .. I never said I thought Sunflower's behavior was hurtful.
Maybe we can let this go now.

How about coconut oil? I know it can be a substitute for butter but not sure how it withstands the high temps needed to fry food.
-
BTW - I do think, in the orig, post calling someone IGNORANT is hurtful, if that person allows it to be, as Eleanor Roosevelt said :"No one can make you feel inferiour without your consent." Not going to even "touch" the comment about "homies." Will leave this conversation now.
Lago, thanks for your comments. ALL IS VERY WELL. really, very well.
-
2tzus, I agree we can't drive ourselves nuts. I also go round and round trying to figure which of my behaviors might have caused my BC. My mom also got BC and enjoyed her cocktails, but hers was triple negative which as I understand it isn't affected by alcohol, so go figure.
-
Let it go 2T. Really.
-
enjoyful I would like to know about the coconut oil as well. It sure is nice to use on my face, and it smells so good.
-
Kira -
Here's a link re: cooking with coconut oil. The link says coconut oil has the same "smoke point" as butter so maybe not an option for deep fryers:

I have used canola oil, yes. does anyone use flaxseed oil in anything? I was wondering how to use it and if it is good. I might have missed it, did we have a consensus on flax and ER positivity? I think flax is recommended in the 'anti-cancer' book.
-
enjoyful, so I can use it for like frying an egg? I don't deep fat fry never have.
-
Yes, kira, egg-frying seems to be okay. I'll have to try it!
Omaz - I think the consensus was that flax seed is okay for ER+. Not sure if flax oil would have a different result.
-
I really need to get the anti-cancer book. I think I will check my library, really don't have the money to buy books, or anything to be honest right now.
-
I use grape seed oil for most things if I only need a little. I like olive oil, and canola, and coconut depending on what I am doing.
-
why is flax seed ok but mixed feelings on the oil?
