I have the same problem Blue - Athena had it with one of those posted on another thread. I really think they are just meant to annoy.
-
I would hate to have to write to the mods about it.
-
Go to
www.pollenranch.com
Yes, it's $15 for a 1 oz. tin, but it goes a loooonnnnggggg way! For example, I'll only use about a 1/2 tsp in the cucumber salad. And I think shipping is included in the price.
-
Some expensive ingrediants are worth it---cardamon, saffron, real balsamic---where would I be without them both? And most of the time, I find you really only use a little dab. That said, you do know you can plant fennel and dill and gather the pollen yourself?
Zucchini carpachio---super thinly slice zucchini and place slightly overlapping on a plate. sprinkle with about a T of balsamic vinegar or a really good, hearty red wine vinegar. Scatter some fresh chevre (goat cheese)---not to cover, just around. Salt and pepper to tast. Finely chop fresh mint and scatter over. Eat.

Linda .. your dinners always make me so hungry ... can't wait to have lunch at your house.
Blue .. there was a pic posted before that caused my computer to quit scrolling .. I couldn't get past the picture!

whatever is posted is not slowing down my computer.....I have pony on ignore.......sorry pony but i had no choice.
-
Bren,
I have a dine glass of chardonnay. Thanks for thinking of me.
-
It's the glitter. I guess I don't have enough memory on here.
-
The problem is that we actually go to the site hosting the picture when they show up. Unfortunately some picture sites unleash a barrage of pop-ups and will lock up your computer while your security software deals with the pop-ups. I do hope everybody is running good security software? A virus enbedded in a picture on a completely legitimate site took out my old computer's entire operating system a year or so ago.
-
Chaplain .. gotta keep your blood pressure down!
Rabbit .. I'm running MacAfee .. I hope that's good enough.
hugs,
Bren

WR
can the virus still effect a computer if you have the person on ignore?

Girls - our current government is destroying our country. We are about to have a carbon tax!!! absolutely unbelievable and it will do nothing for the environment!!!! They are going to take the money they get from the tax and reimburse lower income earners to compensate for the cost of living rises (I'll get none BTW). Sounds like communism to me. Our female Prime Minister promised there would be no carbon tax just before the election. We have a minority government and are stuck with them for now even though the majority didn't vote for them. They stay in power due to a few independant politicians whose own electorates are extremely disappointed in what they did.

3mons -- I do have dill growing in the garden -- it comes up all by itself every year. But...I just don't have the patience to go out and gather the pollen. I let the pollen ranch people do it for me! I think we've never grown fennel; don't know why, because we both really like it. Hmmmm...will have to put it on the list for next year!
-
3monstermama, some people can grow fennel and dill and gather the pollen themselves. Others of us can plant fennel and dill seeds and then watch rabbits devour the plants before they bloom.
(I could handle $15 for a 1 oz tin. I think the store only had bigger tins that retailed for some truly ridiculous amount - upwards of $30 or $40. I should check out this mail order place!)
Not sure what dinner is going to be. Tomorrow is my big marketing (and cooking) day . . . right now the pickings are pretty slim.
L
(Edited to add to Lindasa - I think in your/our climate, it's hard to grow the kind of fennel that develops nice, thick bulbs. But there are some varieties that are more like dill, grown for their fronds and seeds - and, maybe, pollen. Unless you have rabbits, in which case they're grown for rabbit food.)
-
Haha, Ducky1 - no worries.
I just love this thread - where else would I have ever learned about fricken chicken and beekeeping, flying foxes, pollen ranches (?!), and current events, mostly all in an atmosphere of friendly cameraderie???
I just get so disappointed when I see this (or other) threads going on some seemingly scheduled foray into la-la land. Ah well, apparently some enjoy it.
-
Susieq - I'm sure Australia is glad to be rid of that sleazebag. Tell me, how is the media there reporting the news - I'm sure it's front and center, of course. Does he have many defendors?
-
Hers doesn't have sparklies on it.
-
CS ... we've always had pictures on BCO. Very few of them cause a problem. Most sites like photobucket etc. that are used don't seem to do the pop-up thing.
-
AND, Bren's cute little animated cartoon was a TRIBUTE to HL - not a sparkling mess.
Oh, well. Thanks again, 3mm for reminding me of the ignore button.
-
rainbowpony, my computer hasn't slowed down due to your graph. I LOVE IT...oops, I used all caps!
-
Ack! I don't know which is worse, political talk, or sparkly animated graphics?!
Quoting from an answer about whether graphics can affect members here: "Fortunately, the BCO boards are set up so that the picture files aren't actually hosted on our servers; when members want to include a picture in their posts, they need to have it hosted somewhere else, such as in a Photobucket account, or a cartoon site. Then that hosting site basically tells BCO "this is where the picture file is stored" when someone looks at the post.
However, your computer could be slowed down more by a page full of blinking and sparkly animated gifs and movies that it would be by a page of sensible text and the odd pic of members' flowers or kitties or favorite foods."
-
Both, when they are intended to annoy.
Thanks, again, Mods, for remindiing us of the wonderful ignore button. cs
-
Thanks Mods. We're on a new page so it's OK now.
-
It's okay .. I deleted the happy dancing Charlie Brown picture. I didn't want to slow anyone down. I'm sure Happy had a chance to see it before I deleted it.
Bren
-
Athena - It's being reported but they are not focusing on him being a former Australian at all. No comments defending him, in fact the shitty government we have were talking about bans on some types of reporting and it's been rejected by our Attorney General. Freedom of speech is important to all of us, but I don't think there have been any hacking rumours over here.
-
Mods .. you made me laugh out loud with your first sentence!!
You guys are doing a great job!
Bren
-
Oh, bren, sorry you deleted. thought it was sweet of you to celebrate HL's good news. I get such a good chuckle when folks who mimimake fun of this thread, or attack it as trivial, can't seem to resist trying to raise other people's blood pressure by posting on it. Thanks again for your celebratory dancing.
Yeah, ignore button

-
Mods - good sense of humour...I'll just say that, IMHO, there are cool slowdowns and not-so-cool slowdowns. :-)
-
Better a picture showing Charlie Brown dancing than a pic showing me doing the Dougie! No problem on deleting it ... just in case it had a bug in it.
Bren
-
You're a good man, Charlie Brown", errrr good woman, Bren!
