Call from my Breast Surgeon

So, I scheduled surgery with the PS when I get a call from the BS telling me why I shouldn't go with him.  Oy vey.  She told me things I didn't know about the PS which make me question my decision.  I don't know what to do.

    Wow.  One doc talking about another doc.....that's kind of unheard of!  It would really make me reconsider. Is there anyway you can check on the PS???

    That's kind of unprofessional....although it makes me wonder if he did you a huge favor..what did he say?

    Eema, if she was concerned enough to call you and tell you not to use him then you should do some research about it. It's unusual enough to raise a red flag.

    The thing is, it wasn't the first time I've heard these things. Ive heard bad things from three different types of oncologists, and the one who told me to use him even acknowledged his issues. Some insurance carriers dropped him recently. I have to rethink things--BS certainly put herself out there by calling me with this information, ya know? Counts for a lot!

    Well it's certainly a good thing to get a "heads up" but yes this does sound unprofessional and would make me rethink the entire team if that were possible.. Good luck !!!

    I'm a little puzzled by those who say this was "unprofessional". What is more professional than a doc who looks out for his/her patient's health and best interests? Letting one of his/her patients use a doc who doesn't meet the standards needed is not what I want from my med team.

    I had problems with a rad onc. My med onc asked for his name so he could make sure none of his patients would use this guy.

    Leah, I see you are in Israel--I'm also Israeli--I wonder how the care differs, I'm always told Israel has better care. True?

    If I were in your shoes, I'd listen to my BS. The doctors know the inside scoop. If insurance carriers are dropping the doc, that's a HUGE RED FLAG that something is wrong.

    RUN!!!  You don't want to experience this guy's issues firsthand.

    1. Phone call from breast surgeon.  At least one thing has gone wrong.
    2. Other negative feedback.  More reason not go to this person.
    3. Insurance carriers dropped him.  Suspect because they had to pay additional monies out to correct the guy's mistakes.

    Why would you even consider moving forward with this person.  Lots of choice out there, and you deserve someone reliable and who has a spotless track record.  This person doesn't. - Claire

    I agree with Leah.  The BS was extremely professional in her care for her patient.  It's not her job to play nice just because, but it is her job to make sure her patients get the care they deserve.

    Eema, I would definitely review my choice.  Your BS really went out on a limb here and it sounds like you really respect her as a doc.

    Eema, seems to me that your BS is doing you a HUGE favor. I'd thank him and find someone else.This PS is surrounded by red flags,don't ignore them.In the end you'll be the one that pays for any mistakes that might be made.Good luck to you on finding someone.

    Yeah, my BS is a rock star. I have the head of the breast center doing the BMX and the head of reconstructive surgery doing the reconstruction. That and some prayer and I'm fine!

    OK - so are you telling us that the original PS who had all the red flags is off the case and you're going with the head of reconstructive surgery at the breast center? Hope so. Sounds like the new PS is someone your rock star BS likes and works with regularly.

    Yes, theywork together often. I'm feeling pretty secure with this team. People don't get to be heads of departments if they suck!
