Hey wessa - can I join in?  I'm mostly a wine drinker and don't mind bringing my own.  Now that we've got a Trader Joe's in town I can buy the cheap stuff by the case, lol!

Btw, I'm in NC too!  I'm glad you picked an Irish pub in the mountains.  I hope it's in Asheville - I LOVE that town!!!

PlantLover, not allowed to bring wine in--that's a violation of the ABC Commission-- but there's plenty of cheap stuff already there. If you have good slouch credentials the drinks are on the house anyway.

Nope, not in Ashevegas. Hooterville, aka Hendersonville.

Ah yes, NC's ABC laws, how could I forget!

Ashevegas - tooooo funny!  "Hooterville" works for me as long as it's in the mountains and I know it is.  Please let me know what credentials are needed.  Would it help if I told you I thought about starting a thread just like this but was too chicken.  Love it!

Will be happy to bike.  However, will need BEER when I get to the par-tay.  You know, electrolyte replacement and all that.

Sounds like a fun time!!!  Can't wait.

Some good NC barbecue will do me just fine.

Just don't make me cycle back. - Claire

Ummm-is there room on the bus for me? I'll drink anything wine related, beer related, or hootch related. Greasy pub food sounds like nirvana. Will there be dancing on the tables? Niki

Love this thread. Right now I am in Scotland visiting my husband. The last 4 days have been filled with Scotch and castles. Climbing uphill has to be rewarded with a wee dram or a pint.

Oh wow, tedwilliams!  I've always wanted to visit Scotland!  Is it as gorgeous as they say?  Is your hubby living/working there??   I just finished reading "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon, which was an absolutely fabulous book (historical fiction) set in Scotland - I highly, highly recommend it!

Just finished a rousing game of racquetball and now could stand to do some slouching, preferably with some good pub grub and a cold IPA. What time should I meet you in downtown Hooterville, Weesa?

OK, Celtic, I got a cold IPA and some fried duck wings waiting for you.

Pupfoster, I got some Bloody Mary's on reserve for you. Everyminute's husband can be our dd.

Nikisezz, there will be dancing on the tables, hopefully with you.

Tedwilliams, we have all the scotches waiting for you discerning palate.

SharonMH, we have all types of rum and diet and regular pepsi on tap...we need some quiet ones! This is getting to be quite a rowdy crowd.

Diana50--cheese puffs and onion rings are fine, but anything green and sludge-like is banned.

    Good Lord, sign me up.

As a southerner too, I have so regretfully parted ways with most all things fried. Alas, My 11 year old says she will be "whatever kind of vegetarian it is that allows bacon".

But sit me with the Guiness gal...no better beer on the planet. I will cheer Claire on her bike... but I would LOVE to SIT on the bus....cuz I am weary from reading all these bc books, clinical trials, hours of exercise and from wiping the green sludge from my mouth.

Just got back from my Bastille Day revelry.  Wonderful pate sandwiches, wonderful wine, and wonderful frites.  My take-away is that we need to do ALL of these things regularly.  The frites are like nothing else.

Plus, a spot of Can Can dancing and major burlesque.  First time seeing the China Pearl in action.  She bared it all (or almost all) to La Vie en Rose.

Just the most fun. - Claire

Hope it's not too late to sign up. I'm a hop skip and jump from Main St. H'ville and don't want to miss this party!  And my birthday is  mid-October which surely qualifies me for 24 hours of  Over-The-Top-Decadent-Slouching.  Guilt-free Bloody Mary(sss)...a healthy dose of Guiness....and champagne all around, on me!

My husband is working and living in Aberdeen. An English bulldog---Ted Williams--and continuing remodel procedures keeps me in the states. Scotland is beautiful and the weather has been wonderful. Eating has been a delightful adventure...very easy to eat vegetarian.

I too can drive a stick---FJ Cruiser. The Scotch has been wonderful and I am beginning to enjoy a pint of cider. Chips and sauces are a must.

Alas - I can't handle deep fried foods anymore.  So how about I bring some dungeness crabs and we include stuffed mushroom with lots of crab and cheese?  We'd have to drive awfully fast to keep them alive but I'm willing to get a huge straw and blow bubbles in the water to keep them happy!

I just love the thought of a bunch of boobless women showing up in Hooterville!

Oh, count me in on the mushrooms stuffed with crab and cheese!  And I'll bring some Philly cheese steaks smothered in fried onions!  I haven't had one since I was diagnosed.  I think it's about time to indulge.

I can't tell you all how much better/happier this thread has made me feel. Laughing

Weesa, you are my hero. Thanks for being so honest. And congratulations on your (close to) 9 years. Can't argue with that!

I have been in the slouch closet for a while now and feeling very guilty about it. I tried to pick up the exercise in the beginning, even going to a new "rehab" program for survivors that tries to get patients to up their physical activity to a daily basis. But I quit when the obvious super jock MD (rode his bike to work every day, loved running) said to me "well, you know, your are a Stage 3", when I was being a bit resistant to what he wanted me to do. It just pissed me off and I said "do you really think I need to be reminded of that?" Did not go back, wasn't feeling the love.

I now grudgingly take my dog for walks out of guilt and keep promising myself I will dust off one of the many exercise machines in the basement and get back to business. Right.

I do try to eat right and take supplements, but I have refused to curtail my wine intake. And it is definitely more than the recommended amounts.  Just not completely convinced of the connection. A bit of denial going on here I am sure. Undecided

So thank you all for helping me feel like I am not being such a "bad survivor" because I don't do everything possible to reduce the chance of recurrence.

Save me a seat on that bus!

    Cheers, Cyndi

AnacortesGirl - May I please sit next to you on the bus?? Mmmmm, stuffed mushrooms!  Now I think I have the munchies!

Ha ha!!  Boobless women in Hooterville!!

*edit to add - Great post Cyndi!  My, what a jerk the MD was.  Sit next to me on the bus, and we'll drink a glass of wine and toast to the butthead!

Well, this "Boobless in Hooterville" crowd is getting bigger by the minute!   Just think of the party games we could play, LOL!

And decorations....?!  I think we should get some inspirational posters made up!  How about Claire on her cycle, Member_of_the_Club in her marathon running gear, AnneW on a cliff in her birthday suit,  who else...?  Well, on second thought, maybe not - they might accidentally get some CheezWiz flung on them or something.  Could get messy.

<just in case.... you all know I'm teasing, right?  I honestly have nothing but admiration (and envy!) for those ladies>
