Painful lump center chest and elevated liver enzymes
I am in complete melt down mode crying and going to bathroom. I had blood drawn and cardio workup for a routine scheduled colonoscopy next week. I get one every 3 yrs since father had colon cancer hx. Blood showed high SGPT 80 and SGOT 61 where previous labs in Feb were all low normal range.
I did get a tick bite-rash back in mid-May and placed on Doxycycline which caused severe stomach pain gastric reaction where I almost went to the ER. (I had severe GI problems while on 4 DD AC 2006 and was in the ER.) My GP placed me on Metronidazole as it felt like a bad diverticulitis attack. It is taking some some to calm my GI track down eating daily Activia. However, I have some pain in the upper GI track area - center of chest. This is how I discovered a swollen painful area not visible but I can feel it. I am already on Femara 4 yrs (oophorectomy) and get last Zometa infusion in August. Any advise for sedatives I amy ask for because my stress level is unbearable until I can come to terms with these events. I would really appreciate any advise from those who are in this journey..... I am still trying to reach doctors to make appts so I feel like I am flying solo with waiting.

Do you know if you have gallbladder stones? I have them and lately been having problems similar to what you are experiencing. When a stone wants to pass, I have gastric problems and it hurts in the center of chest, between the belly button and the ribs. The pain can take a couple of weeks to go away completly. Maybe you could ask for an US of your gallbladder. That is how they found my stones. Hope you get some relief soon. Hugs.

Hi Babs37 - Yes, I've had severe GI problems and then the recent Doxy incident was bad. I'm trying to reach doctors this morning to more GI evaluation. I was rubbing myself for the gastric pain and found this sore swelling in the center of my chest. So this is really upsetting me and making my GI issues worse with the stress. Lots of burping - - yesterday maybe 30 times and multiple bathroom visits. Hugs back.

Lots and lots of things can elevate your liver enzymes - from fatty liver, gallstones, even taking tylenol or certain other meds. Try not to worry too much as this will only aggravate your GI issues.
Pain in the center of your chest is usually a stomach issue, especially when coupled with dyspepsia (burping). You may want to ask your doc to draw blood for H. pylori and get checked for a peptic ulcer.
Relax, breathe deeply, and I hope you find an answer that brings relief!
(((hugs)))

Janine -- Thank you so much. Coming here is so helpful when you are on the dark edge and someone can talk you down. I really appreciate it. Hugs back!!!

I went through the same fear with digestion issues and upper abdomen pain this spring. Nothing was found. I am pretty sure my anxiety made it worse too. Once the tests were clear it improved a lot. Still pops up now and again though.
Do whatever you need to do for the anxiety. That can be unbearable at times like this.

Hi cp418
Just letting you know that I also have liver enzymes that you mentioned (AST and ALT) at about the same levels as yours which are only slightly elevated I think. My oncologist is not concerned and said there could be many reasons and we could retest in 6 months. (Of course you can read about this on line).
I am sorry about your other symptoms and hope there is a benign explanation and you get relief soon.
If you are having difficulty getting appointments to see your specialists, I suggest visit your GP or ER which may be quicker in having your current symptoms assessed and some anti-anxiety medication prescribed.
I will say a prayer for you.

I've been down that meltdown road...not a fun place to be.
First, let me say that I'm practically a lyme expert - I was diagnosed five years ago after suffering for a long while with it. Lyme isn't easy to tackle and it could be to blame for some of your GI problems, along with the doxy. I have had lots of stomach pain when my lyme flares up. Doxy is a medication also, and meds are processed through the liver. Your liver counts could be wacky because of the medication you're on and the body tryiing to fight the blasted lyme. When you are on doxy, you will have what is called a "herx" where the lyme spirochetes die off. They too, are processed through the liver, as are the toxins they release. They can make you feel REALLY crappy! If you google herx reactions you see they can be pretty severe!
As for the lump - if it's kinda high, in the center, my dad had a hernia for years there - he would press on it and it was a lump. I know it's so hard to keep in mind, but all lumps aren't cancer.
I found a lump on a lymph node back in january, under my collarbone. I went through weeks of hell waiting through ultrasounds, tests, and finally surgery to have it removed and then waiting for the results. I was on xanax and ativan - I was a wreck!! It was benign, thank the Lord! But I know how awful the waiting is!
I would suggest something fast acting like xanax or ativan. If you do an anti anxiety such as lexapro, it could take two or more weeks before it actually works. Xanax and ativan can be habit forming, but not for the short term....and they really do help.

Thank you all so much for replying. I made lots of phone calls and was able to see a new PCP who provided meds for my stomach issues and US script for abdomen. Finally after all this time at least my gallbladder will get screened. He also felt this is ongoing GI issues which getting really bad when I am stressed. No idea about the liver values except to repeat in the future. He did not observe the chest swelling like I did except maybe I made myself sore with all the rubbing..... Dermatologist did re-excision for more margin on a pre-melanoma so have stitches in arm. So between the cardio visit upsetting me and him not forwarding the proper clearance to GI Dr for colonscopy next week --- I've been going crazy. Finally got through to my Onc and will be able to see him early next week too for consult. This felt like a PTS meltdown of flashbacks of what I'd been through before...... I knew you all would understand and I thank you so much for being there for me. Hugs to all you ladies!!!

I'm glad to hear that you are on your way to get answers.

My liver values had risen at my last checkup. My onc wasn't concerned he said a lot of things do affect that. I have irregular bowels and that is affected by stress. Most of what I wanted to say was cp418 you help so many of us with your posted research so I wanted you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you....hoping all turns out well.
