Watercress Smoothie
Recently Watercress has been getting such good press. Scientifically proven to inhibit breast cancer cells, good for prevention and preventing recurrence. One link attached but there are many http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/09/100914115240.htm
It's also inexpensive. $1.29 a bunch. I'm sure someday soon they will grind it up and put in a pill so they can charge more but why not consume in whole form in a delicious way.
Watercress Smoothie:
1 bunch watercress rinsed
1 Cup Almond Milk
1 Cup Coconut Milk
1/2 cup frozen Peaches
1/2 cup frozen Blueberries
1/2 banana
No need for sweetening. The watercress gives a welcome fresh green taste. I look forward to drinking every am.

boy does that sound good. I used to have a little stream (most of the time) and grew watercress so easily. It is SO good. Not so common in the stores in my neck of the woods to which I am sticking too mighty close because of driving restriction.
I'll still try it.

Thank you Carmelle for sharing, sounds delicious !!!

Thanks for the heads up. Somehow I missed the memo that watercress was a cruciferous vegetable. And your recipe sounds great. Thanks for posting!
-
I didn't know it was a cruciferous vegetable. I wonder how it would taste as a salad?

According to this dude Dr. Lam, here is the list of cruciferous veggies (arugula? really?) I have no idea how accurate this list is and when I googled I couldn't find an obviously reliable source, but here it is:

Arugula
Bok choy
Broccoli
Brussels sprouts
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Chinese cabbage
Collard greens
Daikon
Kale

Radishes
Rutabaga

Sounds like a great smoothie, Carmelle!
I posted info testing on watercress over a year ago and no one commented on it. Glad you posted it. Here is what I posted

My sister is an accountant at this university and told me about the study going on there at the university.
-
You know what i love about it. Not usually wanting to tell people to eat this or eat that but Watercress is actually delicious and can be used in salads, smoothies, soups. The studies include preventing recurrence not just preventing diagnosis of BC. That's what matters most to us as a group.

great article painterly!

Watercress and other cruciferous vegetabes are better cooked for those avoiding goitrogenic foods.

had an avacado, cilantro, lime, yogurt and basil smoothy,.. It was excellent. I don't generally care for sweet things.
