Cracking open the Dewars on the rocks with a twist.
-
That view is lovely Barbara.
-
How about a gin & tonic with a lime wedge? Just enough gin to cover the bottom of the highball glass, please ... I'm a cheap date!
-
72, Alison! Why can't we have that here! The heat ratio was 116 last I heard. Can't breath! Looking outside at the poor birds at my feeder, and they all have their little beaks open gasping for air. I keep water out for them, but its just so hot!
Barbara, I am so envious!
I am ready for my margarita, and the salt and vinegar chips!
-
Thanks, Karen, it is peaceful and the sun sets in summer right where the mast on the right is.
-
I'll have a limoncello martini!
Barb, you lucky girl........
-
Oh how I love sunsets on the ocean, it is so peaceful.
-
Sign me up for a Margarita.
-
What a beautiful view Barbara! I bet the sunset is gorgeous.
Iron .. it's a 116 here too (heat index). The actual temp is in the low 100's.

Wow, you guys, I am melting in sympathy. Ours is only 101. Blue, as I said before, the guest suite is open for reservations.
-
Blue .. what's the weather going to be like on Niagra on the Lake in mid August? Does it cool off at night?
-
It's usually pretty hot Bren, unless you're right by the lake. There's a park right by the lake there.
I haven't even ventured out today except to let the pooches out. It's hot enough to melt the b---- off a brass monkey. Grass needs watering tonight.
-
Oooh - Bren, I had no idea it could get that hot in southern VA.
Libby, my new diet code (which has to be the most arbitrary in existence) has barred me from any more G&T, iced and sliced.
Cherryl - right you are-it's 5 pm somewhere. I have just stopped work for the day (got an early start) so I can have some wine.
-
meant to ask - what was/is rosemary's chicken recipe? that's about the only meat I eat. Chicken is meat, isn't it?
Barbara - oh, what a view - fabulous - do you sail?
-
Sunflowers
It is a very easy way to fix chicken thighs. Brown the chicken in olive oil in a dutch oven or electric skillet. Add 1/4-1/2 cup vinegar (any kind, I like cider or balsamic) and 1-3 cloves of garlic or sprinkle each piece with garlic powder (Fresh garlic is better but I didn't have any last night).Cover and simmer 30-45 mins until chicken is done. You can use other chicken parts. I am the only one home for dinner so I will have leftover garlic chicken and rice. Then I'm off for an evening with old friends.
-
CS, I prefer getting from point A to point B in a reasonable amount of time. So on vacation, yes, in real life, no. I have friends with boats so it works out well. Here are a couple friend's boats.
This is Vivan's boat Vivalicious decked out for our wedding. We had 10 people come on boats.

This is Les' boat Seein' Double (he has twin 13 YO boys identicle) in the boat parade.

-
That is so cool! Your life there sounds wonderful.
-
Oh, I want to live by the water...
Athena, I am in Northern VA and we didn't even go to the pool today due to my child and her asthma. Hopefully we can go later this week.
-
It sure beats my last couple years in DC, that's for sure. The last year I was there (96) we had back to back 27"+ snow storms two days apart that shut the government down for 4 days. Unprecedented and we had no power for 4 days. I was NOT happy nor did I like being trapped for 4-5 days even though we had a 4 WD pickup. That made my move/don't move decision and I haven't looked back. DC is cool from March-May then Sept-Nov. Love all the arts stuff but love the outdoor activities we do here year round. I live 50 yards away from the rec center for Treasure Island and they have an executive golf course (cheap) and tennis (free).

Barbara, Oh the Christmas parade must be something to see. We have a Christmas Parade on the bay here in Punta Gorda too. I love going down to it. Do you get to see the fireworks on the 4th? Those are 2 of my favorite things to do here.
-
Rosemary - do you skin and bone the thighs? Doesn't the balsamic get really thick?
-
Bren -- Just to add a little info about weather in NOTL: Temps can range from 75 to 95 during the summer months, and often well into October. Sometimes the humidity is pretty bad but I've never had my sunglasses fog up! All depends what sort of weather system shows up, but usually it's quite comfy and pleasant.
Gee, Barbara, I'd love to play on that "gold" course! (Typo, yes?) ETA -- darn, you changed it!
Bar's open, folks! Cheers!
-
Kira, we usually have 60+ boats in the Treasure Island parade but each beach community has their own parade so the folks end up doing most of them and they give $$ prizes. As for fireworks, my townhouse has a killer view of the TI fireworks sort of where sunset is and then ST Pete Beach's fireworks are to the left about 45 degrees so I get whiplash watching them!!
-
Barbara, If I remember right there are a couple of other memebers around the boards from Florida as well. Wouldn't it nice if a bunch of us could meet up your way?
-
There is a thread about FL members. I will bump it for you to add to your favorites.

Rosemary
AMAZING. That's how I make my chicken thighs (boned, skinned from Costo) in packs that are easy to freeze. Slight variation, I don't brown them, and I use LOTS of fresh ginger, lemon grass, sometimes Star Anise, dried hot peppers, and fresh chives from my garden. I then have it for, well, as long as it lasts, over brown rice, or Quinoa. It's my staple meal. Don't like white meat chicken, don't think it has any taste. But the thighs are soft & fall apart cooked the way we do. I use apple cider vinegar &water.
Small world ;-))))

Check this out. $10 for 18 holes. My house is the right corner townhouse the third building from the dock sticking out into the intracoastal.

-
Allison
I do not bone or skin the thighs. I have never used just balsamic, it seemed like the flavor would be too strong so I do not know if it would be too thick. I usually use cider vinegar but DH got white because I just put vinegar on the list.
On a related note-my oven is fixed. It needed 2 parts instead of one so it cost a bit more that we thought it would but it is fixed.
-
Rosemary, I am doing your chicken tonight but am using breasts. So you cut the balsamic with what?
-
Barbara
I cut the balsmic with cider vinegar or white vinegar
