whoa, macadamia nuts for Athena

You live in what was a former swamp, no wonder it's the most humid place on earth, and you going to leave your cool abode to go to a HOT ROOM to do Power Yoga? Should we add a beer to the refreshments waiting for you at BCOB&G? Do ya want it warm???
-
It was 115 heat ratio yesterday with humidity factored in, just melting. Guess I should be grateful I don't live in Owensboro, where I heard the heat ratio was 125.
I am always grateful for people who have a warped sense of humor, and that can laugh at themselves. Humor and laughter have been my best medicine since being diagnosed, and I can't imagine being so self-absorbed that I would take offense at how someone else deals with their illness or other problems. My theme song is Monty Python's "Always look on the bright side of Life", offensive to some I am sure, but it's my life and I can laugh if I want to.
Potato chips are grand, and I hope you enjoy every mouthful! I don't allow myself to have them very often, but salt and vinegar are my guilty pleasure.
Can I put my order in early for a margarita?
-
I just want to interject.. I really can't drink anymore.. my meds are just too strong but I love a good strong spicey Bloody Mary..
also Athena, I really appreciate your wit, humor, succintity (is that a word) and mediation attempts.. you go girl.
-
Adding my appreciation for Athena.
LOVE Les Mis. I have seen it 11 times. Never gets old for me. I am sooo jealous!
-
Apple .. love your musical apple avatar!
Cindy .. I saw Les Mis in LA too. It was wonderful! Also Cats and Phantom. I saw Phantom twice, I loved it so much. There isn't anything like that where I live now. Happy Birthday to you and your sister!

Thank you, Apple and Barbara.

I'd thank Athena too, but I'm drooling too much at the thought, just the THOUGHT of Salt&Vinegar Chips. "Discovered" them when I lived in London years ago, used to buy a large bag on my way home from the gym..tee, hee...
Still love them - but Costco Kettle SomethingorOther Potato Chips - which are thick enough to DIP in vinegar ( and much cheaper) are excellent. $4. for a, get ready for it, 2 pound bag. I buy them for parties at friend's houses - and HAVE to drop them off on my way home from Costco, cuz they aren't safe in my little cabin! Honestly, I could eat a bag.
-
I read an interesting article about Rupert Murdoch and Media Matters. Most entertaining.

((( Athena )))
I'm off to the dentist .. Barbara .. I skimmed the article, interesting read, need to read it again when I get home.

I don't know how Britain will survive without the Sunday "News of the Screws" - seriously, you'd see folks walking home from the newsagents with the Sunday Times, Observer, folder around the NOTW. The only paper in UK making money!
I wonder what it will mean for The Times of London, which he also owns - also owns FOX News, and Wall Street Journal, and no, I don't wish him well

Off to read your link
-
I am addicted to Utz's Sour Cream and Onion.
(I don't drink beer - I will have lots of iced water this evening.)
May Murdoch and his son end up doing hard time. That man has done more to pollute the intellect and promote backwardness than Mao during the Cultural Revolution.
-
Athena, why is it OK for the NYT to publish classified information and not for Murdoch to fire the editor and close the company down? Not understanding your reasoning here, other than liberal disdain for conservative media outlets/owners.
Not wanting to start a ruckus just don't undestand why it is OK for liberals but not for conservatives?
-
So MUCH of the fury about the hacking in the UK, not publicized much here, is that the NOTW hacked the cell phone of a young girl who had been kidnapped, kept reading the messagaes left, having the parents of that poor child thinking she was still alive. She was dead. They later found her body. Not only did NOTW hack her cell phone messages - without of course letting the police know but the reporters ERASED message when the "mail box" got too full. Deleting information that the police might have used to capture whoever kidnapped & killed the girl.
Just unbelievable. And that was only one case. But the one that made the news , I think it was in 2009. I don't think the Spectator article refers to that incident at all.
-
CS, I think the hacking is DEAD wrong and I think what Murdoch did was the correct thing to do. He entrusted the editor to run the business and she violated his trust so he fired her AND closed it down. How appropriate, IMHO.
-
Barbara - I think you misunderstood where I am coming from on this. My problem with Murdoch is his disregard for the truth, and I am less concerned with US politics and more with British tabloid character assassination when I say this. Phone hacking and publishing information or gossip about a celebrity which you know to be false are my main concern. As is creating an empire based on shameless innuendo.
Murdoch's decision to close down The News of the World, while welcome, is also a step towards inoculating himself and his own from further inquiry. By moving to self-regulate, he is likely hoping that the British authorities will go no further. I think it is too late. The British are sick of him, as they should be. He has singlehandedly run much British journalism to the ground.
-
Is there still a "page 3" girl? My ex husband used to like that.
I'm not sure if we have the Utz's here, and we don't have a Costco, but a friend had some kettle black pepper chips that were pretty good.
Athena, don't melt today doing your yoga. I will stay inside and use my bike.
Miss the days of Broadway! Les Mis is probably my very favorite, but so many to choose from!
-
Barbara,
Correction - the woman who was the editor at the time of the worst hacking is no longer the editor because she has been PROMOTED to a higher position in the organization. Rebekah Brooks, long red hair, pictured standing next to Murdoch, is the person who was the editor.Reading the British papers, there are those who are theorizing he shut it down to save her? The male editors are being investigated, she isn't - yet.
-
If the brits want to indict Murdoch, fine by me. What the paper did was illegal, period. I do think he did the honorable thing, however.
-
I thought she was indicted and fired. Checking her out.
-
Barbara,
Nope
Alive & well, and PROMOTED. Rebekah Brooks - if ya want a good read, British papers are fun reading - all online. -
....and, according to observers, likely to stay there as the only protection barrier standing between the Murdochs and the police.
-
OK, Athena, I believe you really hit the nail on the head. Protecting the son. I hope they all get indicted.
-
Barbara -- Murdoch's editor-in-chief Rebecca Brooks, wasn't fired. She's still safe and sound within the bosom of News Corporation, last I heard.
I remember reading a "roman a clef" novel several years ago which was actually about Murdoch and his chief rival at the time, Robert Maxwell. Both despicable human beings. Interestingly, Maxwell died under mysterious circumstances, and no one was charged with his "murder".

Barbara
I pm'd you - don't want to RISK Blue getting banned again!!!!!!!

-
Jancie, I didn't know Percocet has been recalled. Darvocet is off the shelves, but I still have my stash. When it's gone, I'll cry. Hope you're feeling better today.
Ok, so when the Mods remove a post it's apparently due to tone that may incite a riot, and they can keep on doing their fly-by's or hit-and-runs of snarkiness, get a post yanked, perform a few mea culpas, and do it all over again.
But not Blue. She gets banned.
-
My kids used to get one of those "newspapers" in their stockings at Christmas and enjoyed the detective work of figuring out how the stories were manufactured. I guess we accidentally were teaching critical thinking at an early age.
On the earlier topic of Les Mis - my favourite production of it was a high school version where my younger son played Marius.
-
YIkes? Percocet has been recalled? I've still got my "stash" since my exchange surgery. Really needed one last year when I did a Major Fall on the ice in my driveway...ooohh....is it really bad for us to take it??? Gotta go google...
and I'm back editing to say I just googled Percocet and couldnt' find anything about it being banned?
-
Hillck, I took my sister to see Les Miz in LA two weeks ago for her birthday! It's a great production of it, they use projection in some very cool ways -- adding depth rather than just like putting movies on a screen. Hope you have a good time. And, you will enjoy the cool weather -- we're having a very nice week, highs in the 80s, lows in the upper 50s. (sorry to all my sweltering friends).
Just allow extra time to get anywhere because we are having "carmageddon" this weekend. (They are closing one of the busiest stretches of freeway in the country for construction. Usually freeway construction and repair is done at night around here, leading to the phenomena of traffic jams at midnight, but this one is going to require more time.)
-
Revkat
you live near the 405??? Oh, my, we've been hearing about carmageddon on all the news. Can't imagine how you can get around without the 405.
-
I actually live further out, but my daughter uses it to commute to work. I think many people are either staying home or planing routes that go way out of their way. It will be interesting to see what happens, often the media seems to blow things out of proportion. I do have to say, there can't be a single person left in southern California who hasn't been warned. We were in and out of LA 4 times in the past three weeks and there were signs about it everywhere along the freeways.
