Wonderful Husband... Gift ideas?
Hi, I was dx with DCIS mid May 2011, I had bilateral mastectomies July 1. I had positive margins and looking at radiation. My husband has been so wonderful to me. These last couple of months he has taken care of me, taken care of the children (2y8m and 16 mo old) and has just been wonderful support for me. I lack any family support and I don't think I could have done this without him.
Any ideas for gifts? I just want him to know how much I appreciate him. Of course, I am limited physically and most of my spare time, I am researching radiation treatment.

Oh, and I'm a terrible writer. I can't express my sentiment in words...
I know, my husband SHOULD be doing this for better or for worse.... but I feel really grateful considering my family has not been there for me. I am also scared any minute he's going to crack and say "I can't take it anymore!!"

Does he wear jewelry? Perhaps something engraved. Like the inside of a ring or back side of neckchain.

I'm thinking in terms of doing something for him... maybe a massage at a reallly nice spa, or maybe a surprise weekend getaway for just the two of you? Something relaxing to acknowledge and address the added stress he's no doubt been under... Deanna

Great ideas! Stay-cation at four seasons! Thanks!

Our 21st anniversary was Dec, right in the middle of chemo. I could only shop "online". I thought, "what does John love most". And the answer was me ! hahahhaha. So I booked us a weekend at an historical hotel that he always wanted to got to ( I never had a strong desire to go there) for June. This place is seasonal and only open in summer. We had the best weekend ever. I farmed the kids out so we didn't have to worry. After months of struggle with treatment , I knew the one thing he really wants is me with him for years to come.

@slainte- That's how my husband feels about me, too... but he LOVES to be with the kids. So no stay-cation. He actually wants a panini press so he can make the family yummy sandwiches.
But he's cracking: he forgot to pack diapers/wipes and lunch for our son for summer camp today. I went to pick him up with my husband and was mortified when Teacher told us.

As I husband I offer:
1 - Let him know what you feel and what you worry about by telling him don't write it. He may be worried about the same things and it never hurts to feel appreciated.
2 - He's a man which is to say he probably means exactly what he says when he says he wants a Pannini press so go that way.
Good luck
