Massage - signs - prevention for Lymphedema
Okay, I still have swelling in my left breast and side like it holding fluid. However, there are a very slight red almost unnoticable. I did go to the lymphedema clinic for meassuring and she also gave me a drainage massage. I hurt for a few days after the massage too. My lumpectomy was May 25 and wondered if the swelling was signs of LE or was it my boob still healing....
I want to mow the lawn and use my cardio workout machine as well as my ab lounger but was not sure about these activities and if they would cause swelling.
What are the list of prevention for keeping Lymphedema down ie activities. My back under the shoulder blade also hurts. I am wondering if the aromasin is making my shoulder blade hurt too. ugh too many more pains.
Thanks all

pil- I don't have LE but here's a link to BCO's info on it with lots of good info on how to prevent it from happening. I'm sure some LE girls will chime in soon, too. Good luck-

Pil, here are some good information pages about LE risk reduction:
http://www.stepup-speakout.org/riskreduction_for_lymphedema.htm
The National Lymphedema Network Position Papers on risk reduction and exercise:
http://www.lymphnet.org/pdfDocs/nlnriskreduction.pdf
http://www.lymphnet.org/pdfDocs/nlnexercise.pdf
And here's their position paper on what kind of care us bc patients should have:

Hope some of that helps!

i have tried to download these pages but I cannot. My laptop still gives me an error message. do I ahve to be a member?

Binney thank you for the links . even though I cannot open them which is a mystery I was able to do some search from the lymphnet.org web site and google. google led me to breast lympedema which I think this is what I have. Also, a review of different support bras and under garments for breast wear.
Wearease Compression Bra
How do you measure yourself to fit for the wearease bra? I am a large woman 40DD. I know I need one. ACtually the lympedema therapist told me to get fitted for a support bra on the sides. I sort of ignored that but realize she is correct and is trying to help me. So, much money put out it gets very expensive and burdensome. But, I need to do this up front to keep as healthy as possible. Now I am wondering about the redness on my left breast and pain. I was beginning to wonder if the surgeon left gauze or an instrument in there because it is taking so long to heal. I had the lumpectomy May 25 so I dont know if I am slow healing or this is normal healing time. But the bras I need to know how I measure myself to purchase over the internet. Thank you

Pil, try going to http://www.lymphnet.org and look along the right-hand side. Near the bottom of that page is a list of their Position Papers. Click on the ones for Risk Reduction, Exercise, and Breast Cancer.
For fitting on the WearEase compression bra, there's a fitting chart here:
http://shop.wearease.com/Compression-Bra-by-Wear-Ease-790.htm;jsessionid=0B83E69348D6070E66E5A195DA4FF8C8.qscstrfrnt01It goes by dress size and bust measurement or bra size. I always take in a deep breath when measuring so it doesn't get too tight around my ribs. If you have questions just call them at 1 866 251 0076 and ask for help. They're nice people.
Let us know what you discover! Be well,
