momoftwo - just read your circumstances - very interesting.  I too started having mammos at age 30 because of strong family history(I am 50).  Always had call backs, and biopsies.  Jan. of 2010 report came back as ALH - I was tired of it all and had PBMX - decided to get rid of it before it was cancer.  Also negative for gene - they think it is an undiscovered mutation.  Good luck and let me know what you decide!!

I have a history of DCIS and LCIS. After two years of riding the fence, I opted for a nipple and skin sparing bilateral mastectomy with immediate DIEP recon. When I woke up from surgery, I had all of my skin, my nipples, and the fat from my belly was moved to make new breasts. I am no longer at high risk. I do not have to take meds. No chemotherapy. No radiation. I feel whole. I feel relieved. The surgery was 14 hours long. I had it two weeks ago. My nipples survived. My breast surgeon checked for cancer behind my nipples, and it was clear. If you are interested, go to before and after surgery, and look at the DIEP thread. It is a long surgery, with a long recovery, but I think I look better now than before, and I no longer feel concerned about cancer. I am glad I acted before it acted.

The scars will fade considerably with time and you will soon not notice them all that much! I am happy you were proactive and have reduced your risk of developing BC! I am glad you are happy with the outcome. Please remember it is not final yet - much will improve greatly in the weeks and months to come!
