Plural Effusion left lung?!
Hi all. I am hoping to find words of encouragement tonight. Coming home from Northern MN on July 5th we had a car accident .An 18 year old rear ended us.
Our 21 year old daughter was driving and this was her first accident and she had a melt down over our car. I told her, "It's a piece of metal honey. It was not a life taken or seriously injured. Thats why we have car insurance."
The evening of July 5th both my daughter and I, decided to be seen at the emergency room due to hardly being able to move due to neck, back ands muscle issues. Our daughter was diagnosed with whip lash after x-rays, and they did x-ray of my chest area.
After chest x-ray the emergency room doctor ordered a CT of my chest area. He came back after the CT was done and said, "I am admitting you. You have fluid on your left lung. Have you been coughing? Have you had chest pain? Have you recently had Phneumonia?" I said, "No. Just pain when sleeping on my stomach that was a dull ache."
While in the hospital they did a procedure called, "Thoracentesis." (This is where they insert a needle through the rib cage to draw out fluid accumulation in lung area.)
The doctor said, "I sent the fluid out to be cultured because this could be a cancer, with you being a 2 year BC survivor."
So here I sit all weekend waiting for these results to come back next Monday or Tuesday sometime. I am scared of this now being a Lung issue/Cancer. I have had two melt downs today over this entire thing and the waiting, and not knowing. And yet trying so hard to sound, and act normal. Whatever normal is!
I do have a history of COPD also. So maybe this is a COPD flare up? I quit smoking 1 year ago. I have had a history since I was a young child of chronic Sinus Infections and Uppper Respiratory Infections. My mom, I and my daughter were all blessed with the Sinus/Uppper Respiratory gene-
I have had various CT scans over the last 2 year's: Stomach, brain, and chest area with nothing like this showing up. Now I am scared. Has anyone else experienced anything like this or have any words of wisdom/advice on something like this?
Thanks for listening and being here. I appreciate all of you wonderful, amazing ladies!

So glad that your car accident wasn't serious!
I know your mind is traveling all sorts of scary places, but try not to get the "horse before the cart". You have several things that the fluid could be that are NOT cancer.
When was your last 'routine' CT?

I have really never had a "routine" CT scan. My Oncologist does not recommend these due to the amount of radiation she feels one is exposed to during a CT scan.
However in the last year I have had: a stomach CT scan, brain CT scan and now a chest CT scan too due to this Plural Effusion.
The stomach CT scan was to rule out a bowel obstruction, the brain CT was due to severe headaches I was having.
