As Member_of_the_Club said in another thread, let's dial down the hysteria here.   Let's use some common sense, for cryin' out loud!

Before rushing over to NaturalNews to sign some bogus petition (which is nothing more than one more pay-per-click deposit into Mike Adams' bank account!), get some facts.  Real facts, as in scientific, common sense, facts.

Seriously??  "FDA unleashes end game scheme to outlaw virtually all dietary supplements formulated after 1994?"  I'm sorry, but if you honestly believe that, then you really need to get a grip.  Read the actual FDA information instead of the hyped up, overblown, exaggerated NN "news" and conspiracy theories.  Geez.

Here's the FDA information.  Read it (with comprehension) and then lets talk about how it could be construed as trying to "ban all dietary suppmements."

HERE's another science-based article , in case anyone is interested.

ETA:  Sorry, Havehope - I don't know you, and my response isn't necessarily directed at you.  It's just that this over-the-top conspiracy theory misinformation gets under my skin, and I think it's important to challenge it.

I read the actual proposed regulation and in no way are they trying to outlaw supplements.  Thats ridiculous.  The regs (which are just flushing out a law already passed) require supplement manufacturers to submit new ingredients (meaning, used after 1994) to the FDA so their safety can be approved.  Only their safety, not their efficacy (as is required for medications).  Don't we all want safe supplements?  Especially considering that in the past unsafe supplements actually killed people?

The reason the new law goes back to 1994 is because that is when FDA oversight  of supplements was removed.  This was a very lucrative move for supplement manufacturers but not a good thing for consumers.  Our food, our appliances, our cars, are regulated for safety.  but supplements, which we ingest, are somehow exempt?

Congress has fixed this loophole and the supplement manufacturers are screaming bloody murder and raising HYSTERICAL claims about armed raids and the government taking away your supplements.  This is hogwash.  And they know it but are misleading the public with this campaign because they don't want even a tiny portion of their income stream dedicated to safety.

Well, we could argue that the government has found a way to take down the supplement business. But, honestly, doesn't the FDA have more important things to do than make Utah businessmen pissed off. I guess Orrin Hatch (the Senator from the Supplements, who was responsible for the legislation lifting FDA regulation of supplements back in the day) is losing his clout.

I am totally in favor of this, actually, and wish it went further. Every year or so, when Consumer Reports tests bottles of supplements off the shelf, and reports that most contain about 50% of what they say they contain ON THEIR LABELS. Check it out - it's why I buy most of mine from, like, Costco, whose in-house Kirkland brand gets consistently high marks.

The other reason is that more and more of the ingredients that US manufacturers are using are cheap, from China. You know, China, the country where they killed 60 babies by adding plastic to their baby formula, to cut the price by 5 cents? And where they paint toys with lead paint? And put poison in toothpaste?

I do go to a US manufacturer for other supplements (CoQ 10, which is wildly pricy), and read what they say about their ingredient sourcing.

I trained as a librarian, and I have been a researcher for most of my life. So, this isn't too hard for me. It;s just incredibly time-consuming, and frightening. So, let's cut the FDA budget? Maybe then all those adriamycin manufacturers won't fail their inspections - because there won't be any.

Guess I'm more annoyed than I thought.

    Sue
