Hope everyone had a great week-end, you all must of because its a ghost town herre LOL! I had a great time yesterday, spent the day with friends and bq'd and just hung out- Today Dh and i drove to tillamook which is an hour drive from here and went through there cheese factory, ate cheese, of course, fudge and ice cream we stopped at safeway on the way back and bought some ribs they were barbequeing out front, some baked beans to go with it, macaroni salad and corn on the cob never had to cook tonight, was glad about that just heated the corn in microwave other than that it was a quiet evening here for us.

Janey-Glad to hear the meatloaf was good, i will try it now since i know it turned out great!

Laurie- LOL- I thought you only had a couple of kids but wasnt sure ha! Did you ever get the recipe for the bread?

Michelle- Just read your blog, sounds like you had such a great time. sorry it all caught up with you, but no wonder, you have been doing alot here lately seems like you havnt slowed down much, but glad you are doing ok. Thanks, Debbie!  I am naturally pretty "high energy" so I guess that is serving me well right now.  Yesterday we had some family and friends for a cookout - there were seven adults and a one-year-old.  I marinated three racks of ribs, then made a rub and smoked them.  Well, hubby took over about half way through the cooking process.  Everyone else brought the sides - we had cole slaw, potato salad, beans, corn on the cob and a couple desserts.  The weather was beautiful until about 6, then we had a couple of tstorms rumble through and eventually we were driven inside.  Today I will go visit my mom, make sure she gets a shower, take her to lunch and to visit her brother.  Then I need to grocery shop, assuming I have anything left in me by then...LOL!  If not, we'll be eating yesterday's leftovers!

Here's a link to the ribs recipe for anyone who wants to give it a try:

    http://www.smoker-cooking.com/smokedbabybackribs.html

As for my "bald" head...well I'm not amused...LOL.  I still have grey stubble, surprisingly, and maybe it will look better when it's actually smooth.  I now have 3 wigs and I'll be wearing them continuously except when I sleep and shower.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Here's a picture of me with a wig that my best friend's brother-in-law passed on to me Saturday.  My hair is naturally curly so this is fun - a little straighter and almost blonde.

Need to do something about the raccoon eyes...LOL!

Michelle- I love the new wig!  I am glad you are trying different styles and having fun with it, even if it is no fun to go through all this crap.  We dodged the thunderstorms yesterday, we could see the dark clouds and hear the thunder but it never hit and the sun came back out.  I'm glad it stayed nice for most of your get together.  Good luck getting all your things done today- it sounds like a lot!

Debbie- Your day sounds so relaxing to me and cheese, fudge and ice cream?  Yumm!

Well, I think I am going to try the pork recipe my friend gave me last week for tonights dinner, so I'll let you all know if it's any good.  It is going to be really hot here today and this way no one will have to cook dinner, the crock pot will do the work for us.  :)

    Hi All,

It was a very busy weekend for everyone from the sound of things (and, also, as Debbie pointed out almost every thread ground to a stand-still!)

Hope you all had a nice holiday weekend!  Each year we do a big family weekend on the 4th at my parents house!  Most people in my family are really good cooks so everyone kind of has their own 'specialty' that they make!  This year even my nephew who has plans to go to culinary school made a dish of his own!

We had, over the course of  the three days, everything from burgers, to crabcakes, to ribs and pulled pork.   My brother made a really fabulous stuffed flank steak!   Plus all the fixin's and.... well you get the picture!  I feel so bloated from over-indulging this weekend on both food and libations that I think I may require my own zip code!! Embarassed

Well this week I promise to behave!

Finished the night watching the town fireworks from my parents front yard!

PS... I made a really good (if I do say so myself) ice cream dessert with an oreo crust, ice cream and a hot fudge topping! YUM!

    Michelle,

I am happy to hear that you are feeling well after the last treatment!  Sounds like you have been just crazy busy!! Please take some time to take care of yourself!!  We need to get you 'plumped up' so you can have your DIEP at the end of all of this!

I know it really can't be easy losing your hair.  I have not been there so really can't say that I know how you feel.  But what I CAN say is.... hair or no hair... wig or no wig.... that sparkle in your eyes and your beautiful smile shine through clear as a bell!!  PLUS.... you are really rockin' the wigs!  Just sayin'!

Beautiful pictures on your blog!! I love gardening and flowers!

Seaside - I have to say I'm pretty much "over" the hair loss thing!  And thanks for the compliments Smile  I love taking pictures of scenery, flowers, and interesting things.  Some people do a lot of cropping and enhancing, but I am more of a "capture the moment" photographer.

And thanks, Ducky!  Trying to make lemonade out of this!

Working on the "fattening" thing - went for a kiddie ice cream tonight...chocolate walnut...tasted really good!  It's cute, they put an animal cracker on top of their kiddie size cones!

Michelle- On the fattening thing, it makes me think of my mother.  She would walk 2 miles at luch time, eat an apple and drink a diet coke- thats it- then when she went through chemo she lost some weight and had to keep the pounds on.  One night on the phone with her, she said don't mind me, I'm eating....as she took a bite.  I said what are you eating?  (It was later in the evening) She said, the perk to chemo is I now eat ice cream with m &m's and hot fudge every night and it is fantastic!!  She loved that she no longer had to watch her weight and would have extra butter with her lobster and dessert after. So EAT!  Indulge and consider it a side effect that lets you misbehave a bit- get your protein in at lunch and be a devil at dinner:D

I for got to mention earlier that I got the info on the bread- store bought- well from a restaurant, chibatta (sp?) bread with cheese and who knows what else- bummer.

The pork tonight I would give a 6 1/2....but I am not a huge pork fan, the kids hated it and the hubby loved it.  I do think it is worth the try though, it was super easy.

Dang it i just lost all my post!Surprised

Seaside- LOL@the needing your own zip code! Your picnic food sounded delishish, so did your icecream dessert, wish i had some in the freezer right now! Wow, thats awesome you are gonna have a culinary chef in the family. I know what you mean about behaving, we are finishing up leftovers tonight and then tomorrow im going to start eating a little healthier or at least untill i can zip up my new pants that fit perfectly last week! LOL!

Laurie- Cute story about your mom being able to eat all the good things we love to eat but shouldntLOL!, is she ok, if you dont mind me asking? I love ciabatta bread, i buy mine at safeway store in the bakery, they make it in all different flavors one i love is with cheese and garlic its very good. Sorry your pork didnt turn out the way you wanted, but 6 1/2 isnt a bad score Wink

Michelle- Hope you are doing well tonight! And i agree with every one, you are rocking in your new wig! I looked silly in mine, infact i looked like a drag queenLOL!

Laurie - great story about your mom!  If I were not diabetic AND trying to get DH to lose weight, I could do ice cream or popcorn every night!  And I agree, 6.5 for the pork is not bad coming from a non-pork-lover.

One of our favorite breads with dipping oil is at Carrabba's.  We had one five minutes from our house in Missouri, not sure where the closest one is here.  It might be near my mom's - about 30 minutes away.  We need to try out some of the local Italian restaurants, there are a couple with really good reviews and hopefully, really good bread.

Seaside - time to start sharing some of your family's culinary delights Wink

    Have a great day!

Oh Joyce, I lived that house remodeling thing last fall!  My bed was in the living room, my dressers were in the kitchen, we had ceiling dust an inch thick throughout the entire house, and oh what a mess!!!  I think some of the dust came with us...LOL!!!  I'm sure you'll be thrilled with the results, though!

Time for us to get together...I'll call you later.

OK Ladies - time to party!  If you live within driving distance of Salem, NH let's get together on Monday, July 25th.  That will be 2 days before my 4th chemo and unless something drastic happens, I plan on hosting a lakefront party starting about 6:00p.m. and going until we have talked ourselves out!  If you think you might be able to join us, send me a PM so I can send you details and directions.  JoyceK is bringing the pizza so you all can find out why Bob's is the best!

Spread the word - my patio is big enough for at least 30 people!

Michelle- I will try to make it!  Mondays can be a hard time for me to get down there, but I will let my husband know I'de like to sneak out and give him kid duty!

Debbie- My Mom passed away 6 years ago from BC.  I could go on and on about my Mom, she was the best mother/friend a person could ask for.  She was diagnosed stage IV and never skipped a beat.  She always had a smile and some idea for something we should go do.  She survived five years from diagnosis.  It made me start mammograms at age 30 (I was 28 when she passed) I was diagnosed at 34.

So- it was so hot last night we just had cheeseburgers on the grill and some pasta salad.  Tonight I am going to make grilled chicken with the cucumber, tomato, avocado salsa with some roasted red potatoes and corn on the cob.  I am loving the summer weather!!  Although we had a storm blow through here last night, it felt like heaven, you could hear the flowers sigh collectivly!  But it knocked out our Internet and cable.  My husband with no tv, is not a happy man.  I however just enjoyed my book and the cool breeze the storm brought!

Thanks Michelle, You never know, it could happen LOL!

Making a pork roast in the crock pot since its to hot didnt want to heat up the house, put 3/4 cup of red wine, 1/3 cup of soy sauce, 1 cup of water, 3 cloves of garlic minced,  s&p,  garlic powder, and 1 packet of dry onion soup mix- i had some carrots so threw those in there with some sliced red onion put on low for about 4 to 5 hours- I made this before and really like it.

Edited to add: Sometimes i cut slits in the roast and stuff it with garlic and then brown it, but to hot for that, good either way

I was off to the lymphedema specialist this afternoon, so we decided to go out for Mexican food at the "first" Mexican restaurant in NH.  Big mistake!  The food was just above poor, the margaritas tasted like a lime koolaid mix, and I just can't tolerate very much spice right now.  Poor hubby, it was his idea and he felt bad.  I ordered a supposedly "mild" chicken dish and it was really not mild.  It's a "one and done" place!  He redeemed himself by taking me to another restaurant that had patio seating (it's a gorgeous evening) and we had dessert. Well, I had a few bites and took the rest home.

Speaking of lymphedema, I have a little fluid accumulating in my back behind my breast area...nothing serious but worthy of some attention.  And I needed a sleeve and gauntlet for flying, so it's all in the works.  The therapist was impressed with my range of motion so not much to worry about, overall.  Good excuse to do some specific exercises in the lake!

    Michelle,

That does stink that the first place you tried wasn't too good! A mexican place with bad margaritas AND food that's not so hot might as well not exist!! I can overlook bad Margaritas if they have good food and vice versa (although with GOOD margaritas it's easier to overlook bad food especially as the night goes on...LOL)

From what I have heard being proactive on the lymphedema is soo important!

Much as I would Love to join you at your party, I won't be able to make! I will, however, join you in spirit that day! Hope you all have a wonderful time!!

Michelle- Sorry you are having problems with lymphdemia, I didnt realize you could also get it in your back. That sucks about the food, and the margaritta when they are both bad its a bad sign the place just plain sucks!

Seaside- Have a great time! You will be missed and keeping you in my prayers for a safe and happy vacation.!!

Debbie - just a little fluid pocket that might be slight truncal lymphedema...nothing serious and no pain involved.  But...more appointments over the next few weeks while avoiding the immediate post-chemo days.  Just what I need...lol.  Which reminds me, I'd better get those on my Google Calendar or I'll never remember to go!!!

That get together sounds like fun!  Wish I were closer.

Michelle, good to be taking care of that early.  I went to a lymphedema therapist today too.  Just pre-surgery because they are going to be removing lymph nodes.  I think it was a good thing.  She gave me a couple of  stretches to do now and after surgery.  She seemed very knowedgable.  Now I have to be good and actually do them.

Seaside, Have a great time!  I love the beach too.  My brother has a house there.  Going there this weekend.  Can't wait.  All my best memories are at the beach.

Had a Perdue chicken breast for dinner tonight.  It came in a bag and was all seasoned.  You just cook it for 90 minutes in the bag.  It was pretty good!  Also joined a CSA and cooked the green beans we got from them tonight.  Steamed them and then miixed in vinegar, oil, parmasan cheese and garlic.  Pretty good!  Not really a green bean fan, but I guess I'll be trying a lot of new veggies with this CSA.  Also got some beets, pea tendrils and summer squash.  Have no idea how to cook those.  Any suggestions?

Michelle- I have been meaning to ask you if you have had to have the nuelasta shots? I know you mentioned it before chemo but was wondering if you have had any bone pain with the shots? I know i did, it was severe for me. but you havnt mentioned bone pain so im hoping you havnt had them yet or you are not having the SE from it.

Kay- Your pea tendrils brought back some memories, i havnt had those in a long time, i used to cook them in a little garlic and evoo just untill wilted but not long if you still want the crunch- For beets i trim and clean them up real good, put on a baking pan lined with foil, put evoo and s&p on them, cover real tight with more foil and bake 1-2 hours at 400%  depending on the size of them when perced with a fork they should be tender, when cool enough to handle peel with hands or a small pearing knife, you can make a great salad with these maybe toss with the peas?? For my summer squash i slice lenght wise and cut in half  season with any herbs you like, thyme, or herbs de provence, s&p evoo bake @ 350% for 10 to 20 minutes depending how tender you like them. Hope this helps
