Essiac Tea
Hi! Any one taking Essiac Tea regularly? Can you tell me if there are any side effects and if it has helped you?

My ND recommended I drink this - but I havent consumed it due to the fact it may have estrogenic properties. see the following: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/essiac/HealthProfessional/page1 ; http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16541326 ; http://cbcrp.org.127.seekdotnet.com/research/PageGrant.asp?grant_id=2101

I recently started drinking the Brassica tea patented by Johns Hopkins. It's green tea with SGS (the natural compound found in broccoli and broccoli sprouts). The tea tastes fine-- better iced with lemon, and there are others-- red bush tea with SGS, etc. I thought about just juicing broccoli but this is a much better (at least tastier, to me) alternative.-- Julie

JAT, Do you have any idea how much SGS is in the tea? My other question is where do you get it?

http://www.brassicatea.com/ sounds interesting - thanks for this thread

Caerus-Sunflowers,
Thanks for the link. I've just ordered some. Now I would love to figure out how much of the SGS is in it compared to what we are being told we should take to fight BC. Someone told me I need 6 pounds of broccoli which is not doable IMHO.

Concerning the essiac tea: "If you have an estrogen dependent tumor – Turkey rhubarb and burdock are both known to contain phytosterols. Phytosterols can mimic act like estrogen in the body, and feed estrogen dependent tumors"

But the Brassica tea sounds like a good idea!

Thanks everyone for your input. Looks like the tea may not be good for me as I am ER+.
Will read and do more research. Brassica tea sounds like a good one to try.

On the box it says that each tea bag has 15 mg of SGS. I'm not sure what that translates to in terms of pounds of broccoli. My oncologist had never heard of the tea (she's at Georgetown and usually doubts the efficacy of any of these supplements, so I just ignore her). But green tea in general is good for us, and this is just an added benefit. I order from Amazon-- it's 16 bags per box.
