Anyone doing TAC now?

Just wondering if anyone was doing TAC now, I had my first treatment on 6/9 and I'm currently having my second.  Was wondering if we could compare our SE's and tips on how to avoid SE's.

    Heather,

I had six cycles of TAC. I just finished 6/13.  Things that helped me were to take the anti-nausea meds (zofran every 8 hrs) and to drink lots of water for two days preceding the infusions and at least two days following.  My sister had TAC but was not as nauseated as I was - she had mouth sores and I never did. Everyone is so individual.  The neulasta shot that I had following each treatment gave me bone pain and I took oxycodone for about 4-7 days following each shot. Of course, I lost my hair but I shaved it first so I would not go through the experience of it falling out bit by bit.

Just had my 2nd treatment yesterday, waiting for the effects to kick in. I have an appt for my shot later today, Last time I took a claritin the day of the shot and for the following two days and I switched to Aleve, no bone pain at all, kept waiting and it never came.  I think the steriods were tough on me too.  My vision gets blurry but clears up when I stop taking them.  Also did either of you notice your voice change, when I get tired my voice gets really scratchy and everyone asks if I'm sick.  Hubby is sick now, at the drs.  He's got to get on something, as he can't be around me if he's sick!!  Thanks for the responses!

I had a scratchy voice too while on chemo. I think it was the C in the AC that did that to my voice.

When my husband got sick while I was on chemo, he used to sleep in the guest room till he was ok. And I wore a mask over my mouth-nose when I was around him. One can never be too carefull........

    Hugs.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with the voice problem.  I answer phones at work and everyone comments - Are you sick?  Both my husband and I had the scratchy throat up into my ear, I had it on the one side but it cleared up the day of my treatment.  Think maybe from the steriods.  Onco told me I should have called if I had a fever and I never did, he seemed ok with that I got my next treatment.  Did any of you gain weight during Chemo.  I seriously need to lose a lot of weight and managed to lose a good amount prior to chemo but now am just trying to eat as healthy as possible but hate the thought that I might gain and have to start all over again.

Never had mouth sores. I had nausea and weight loss with fatigue. I only completed 3/6 rounds due to fever from colon perforation requiring a ileostomy. Fortunately the 3 cycles wiped out the cancer and I was able to move on to BMX. Absolutely watch your temp.

Dana25 - was your colon perforation caused by the chemo?  Are you better now?

I have had 2 doses of TAC and going for 3rd tomorrow.  I am having a total of 6.  Emend for nausea is fantastic, expensive if insurance doesn't cover it but it works!  I take it before chemo treatment and then in the morning on day 2 and 3.  I also take Zofran prior to chemo along with decadron.  Number 2 dose my real proble was with fatigue to extreme exhaustion so I did nothing but sleep, but no nausea.  I take Neupogen injections for WBC and my doctor suggested I take Claritin for bone pain.  i bought some OTC generic and it works, no pain what so ever.  I take one prior to my injection and it is amazing, well at least with round 2 it worked.  I will have to see what happens after tomorrow.  I also felt like I was walking at 10,000 foot elevation, no swelling of hands or feet, just had hard time breathing.  I had a chest xray today and am waiting for those results.
