Pejkug3~ radiation affects everyone differently, and I know everyone's plans, dosages etc are different. Rads wiped me out from day one, started with little naps in the evening then the last two weeks I was extremely fatigued, couldn't get out of bed tired - called my boss one morning and told him all I could was roll over. I scared him so bad he called at five and asked if he needed to come over and check on me.....
I hope that exercise invigorates you through rads, and I can see how blondelawyers docs recommended the not too hard part.
Good luck with treatment. I maintained my weight during rads to the pound, weird....
-
My plan is to start an exercise regimen after rads. Right now it's all I can do to keep after my kids, keep the house reasonable clean and run to doctor's appts!
I should finish rads on August 12 - my exercise regimen is scheduled to start on September 1. The next phase of my treatment...
Weight - the RO never weighed me at all. I hope they don't they don't today since I've gained 5-7lbs.
-
Hello - just ran across this thread and boy do I ever need to be here!! I'm only 5' tall and weight 220. I in the middle of my chemo treatments right now and just today my hair started falling out. But, my biggest issue is my weight. I have a horrible time trying to lose weight. I also have a hypothroid which makes the issue even worse. I'm one of those people who carry my weight all over. Good luck to everyone!
-
Kathy, so sorry about your hair
I too have a lot of weight to lose and like you, I carry it all over. I also need to get back to walking/exercise. Anyone interested in starting any exercise at any pace and just encouraging each other? Also, does anyone have a good low cal recipe for chicken? I am so bored with my current repertoire! Gina, thanks for the fish cooking tips I will definitely try it next time I have fish.

Hi All...
What saddens me is that,I am suppose to take a medication that cause weigh gain... I am somewhat defeated...Uuuggghhh... -
Hi sohardbnme, how is your day going?
-
kc165 - I am going to start walking. I have a park right across the street from me that is perfect for walking. It will be slow going for me for a while, but this is something that I'm just going to have to do.
sohardbnme - I hear you. That is one of the side effects of one of my chemo drugs too.
-
I'm tired of Cancer Period...Uuuggghhh...I WANT MY LIFE BACK...
About to get on eliptical...LOL -
I was laying under the rads machine today thinking - How the heck is this my life?! Rads just makes me really feel defeated and angry for some reason. Just ticks me off.
Then the rads ladies said I wouldn't be able to lose weight while in rads. As in I wouldn't be able to accomplish weight loss while in treatment. Um - game ON! Don't tell me that I can't do something...then I *have* to do it to prove you wrong!
So I'm planning to start exercising sooner.
-
pejkug3~ I went extreme with a vegan diet, was waiting for the pounds to shed during rads and nothing....I stayed exactly the same. Some ladies on the rads threads said their RO's told them to maintain weight for the treatment field.
Rads pissed me off too, I'm usually a pleasant person even through cancer treatments, but rads took me over the "that's enough" edge.
Kathy~ Hi! Welcome to the hair club....sorry....but it does grow back on me kind of quickly. I finished chemo on Valentines day and I have a full head of hair about one inch long, enough for me to look like I might have done this to myself on purpose.
My MO advice for food during chemo was NEVER eat your favorite foods cause you won't like them later - so I ate Wendy's and Mcdonalds and Taco Bell etc.....that was the beginning of my diet - I can't even stand to smell fast food now.
-
Rads was hard for me as well... It was that cold room... Being in there alone... Having to go everyday... UUUGGGHHHH... LOL
I was weak during last week of Rads... Energy depleted...
****Desitin work for radiation burns... Try it...
I use Biatene, but Desitin worked better...
-
I did the partial breast radiation (2x a day for 10 treatments). The catheter was a pain, but I'm glad I got it over quickly and had no issues with radiation burn. My son-in-law shaved my head last night. It was a traumatic experience, ,but then he shaved his and my 8 year old grandson had his shaved too. It was a very moving experience - and, of course, I bawled like a idiot! Gotta love family!!
-
pejuk, I think they mean NOT to lose weight as the depth of the rads are aready calculated and if you lose weight you'll get burnt or something!!
-
{{{{{Kathy}}}}} What a sweet family you have!
-
I'm off to rads in a few minutes. I plan to ask the question about weight loss again - it seems I'm not able to ask questions correctly in this office. I never get the answer I was looking for!
-
Weight loss is so hard...and yet it's so easy to put it on....Ugh..
Anyone know if chemo does anything to your metabolism? I mean, if affects just about everything else, right?
I know oh so well the feeling of "defeat".....it seems to find it's way into my mind at the most inopportune times...
I like the analogy of "losing weight and exercise" as the next phase of treatment in the process of getting and staying healthy...I need that type of mantra to keep my mind on the right track...
Veggies are starting to gross me out...trying to get them down and I just can't do it...been trying to drink veggie juice too, but geez, it doesn't go down any easier...I have some weird aversion to the texture of cooked veggies so I have to eat them raw....or I have to blend veggies together and then cook them....
Been doing my morning walks, but geez, this heat is overwhelming here in OK....even at 8am I'm sweating like a hog....but, I"m doing it....I"m chugging along...
Sorry to be a downer...I know things will get better..one day at a time, right?
Hope everyone is a little bit "lighter" today than yesterday!

Does anyone drink green juice or green smoothies? Or have any good (not really high in calorie, but high in protein) shake ideas? I need to increase my nutrition, but don't feel like eating a lot of the time, so I think that smoothies may be the way to go for me.
-
Tori ~ I totally understand those down days we all get them! It can also get very discouraging to try and lose weight with little or know reward, but you're right we can do this and we're here to encourage each other. Good job on the walking, you have motivated me to get up and take mine as soon as I am done here... thanks!!
pejkug3 ~ Hope you got your answers!
-
How has everyone been...
-
Blondelawyer~ I bought a Breville juicer - very happy with it. Using the sweeter veggies though, beets, carrots, parsley with celery is a good one (but beets are a STRONG detoxifier use only once or twice a week). Carrots with apples too.
The veggies that have the higher protein, beans, spinach, broccoli - I haven't tried to get creative with.
Have you tried Quinoa? It's a whole grain high in protein, similar to rice. Almonds are good for protein too as is an egg.
Do you have a Whole Foods around you? That's a good place to start tasting the veggie smoothies - they make them in the deli area.
-
Thanks for the suggestion sagina--I'll check out Whole Food first
-
Just thought I would check in and see how everyone is doing. I had a chemo treatment last week and it really got me down. I got sick during the treatment and then my stomach has bothered me pretty much most of the time. Although the anti-nausea medication does help. Down 3 pounds this week - but mostly because I wasn't hungry - but still trying to eat sensibly. Nothing tastes very good right now. Just re-read this and doesn't sound I'm doing well - but overall I am. Hope everyone is doing well.
-
I'm still working on losing weight. They weigh me each week at rads and I'm down three pounds in 2 weeks.
I wish it were more, but I'm trying to eat a lot of protein and that keeps my calories pretty high. And no exercise without wearing a bra.
klucyg - glad you're doing ok with chemo. I lost a lot of weight during chemo. I just had diarrhea so bad.
-
How is everyone...
-
Last week down 5, this week up 3. It's a never-ending battle. I'm so sore from hemmoroids!!!! What's the deal with that!! That was gross, sorry. But they are driving me crazy!!!!
-
I am exhausted--this chemo is really kicking my butt! I have my last dose on 7/25 and then will have surgery. I'm meeting with the surgeon on Thursday. I am emotional and just so tired these days. I am glad to be moving on to the next stage, but also scared. The good news is that I am going to go to Hawaii for a quick trip between chemo and surgery--I figured the Vitamin D will do me some good.
-
The vitamin D should do you some good! Hope everything goes well for you! Congrats on moving to the next stage. I know it can be tough. One day at a time. I have to tell myself this ALOT and I havent dealt with nearly as much as you have.
My weight has dropped by a pound or two but nothing significant. I am trying to eat good foods but sometimes it is all I can do to smell them. So I eat what ever I can manage to smell first and eat second, lol.
Good luck to everyone! Hope everyone has a good day today!
-
Hello All!
Sohardbnme ~ Doing good! how about yourself?
klucyg ~ Sorry about the hemmoroids, they can be very painful! How is the nausea?
Blondelawyer ~ I couldn't think of a better way to get some vit d... in Hawaii!!! Your last dose of chemo is coming up quickly and then it is aloha! I hope you're feeling better...(((((((((blondelawyer))))))))
-
Last dose of chemo is on July 25th. Hawaii is August 4th. Bilateral mastectomy on August 16th. And then who knows...
-
ladies...
hope you are all doing well...hoping that you are surviving the heat and having some fun.
blondelawyer---have fun in Hawaii! (can I hitch a ride in your luggage, please?)
praying that all going through treatment right now are having tolerable/minimal SEs...
praying that all of us trying to "lose weight" are doing well and getting lighter and lighter each day.
praying that all the "ugliness" we go through now or have gone through, quickly become distant memories as we move on with happy, healthy, long lives...
