The first onco I went to did not test me for it to my knowledge nor did she mention it.

The second onco ordered the test and I will have to wait 4 weeks to go back and find out what my options are then.

I just went for a second opinion about cyp2d6 testing today since my oncologist won't order it. My sister is a poor metabolizer so I am very worried. She was switched from tamoxifen to toremifene. The second opinion doctor said that four years ago a study came out that showed the cyp2d6 story is not true. Well I looked up about that today and found out that Mayo Clinic released a study in Dec 2014 showing that the study from 4 years ago was flawed! The researchers four years ago tested the participants' cyp2d6 status using tumor tissue, which is not accurate at all since tumor cells often have alleles missing! This is crazy! So all the doctors who refuse to do cyp2d6 testing are basing their opinion on flawed research! I am so panicked now that I have been taking a medicine for the past six weeks that is not even protecting me! I can't believe that doctors don't read up about things. Sometimes it feels like I know more than them! Here is the article.

Has anyone had CYP2D6 testing done at Quest? Just wondering if that is an ok lab for this kind of test. Thanks for your help!
