Paying for your own MRI

Options

At my appointment last week, my onc found somethings she was concerned about. The office called and said my insurance wants a ultrasound first then a mammogram. Depending on those results they may or may not authorize a MRI *sign*. I hate this waiting to my next appointment, then waiting on results, then waiting on insurance game*SCREAMS*!

Has anyone found an independent MRI center that performed your test at a discounted or low rate?

Thatgirl, I haven't been in your situation, but I know from experience that medical facilities often have a different rate schedule -- sometimes about 1/3 less -- for cash patients.  But MRI's are pretty expensive, and there's some risk to any medical procedure.  So as frustrating as it is to have to wait, I personally would not rush to an MRI unless it's determined as necessary.

OTOH, can you do anything to speed up the u/s app't. and then, if necessary, the MRI approval process by being a squeaky wheel?      Deanna
