Acupuncture?!?

Options

I had a 100cc fill yesterday in my implants and I am in intense pain that neither pain meds or muscle relaxers are helping with. I called and made an appointment to see an acupunturist this morning. Has anyone else used acupuncture for this type of pain? Is it effective? How does it work if you can't lay down due to the expanders?

Please advise as i've never been.

Heather, I used acupuncture for paralysis and nerve pain that no drug could take away. It took about 3 visits for noticable reduction in pain, 6 visits for the pain to subside to a "soreness" and about 12 weeks for me to start getting movement back. You may have some odd sensations during the acupuncture, but it shouldn't make it any worse - it's unlikely that you'll feel immediate relief though. I'm sure they will be able to work around your inability to lay down. Good luck, I hope you have as much success as I did.

I too used acupuncture & had success almost immediately but continued for 3 treatments, it's been over a year since I went & still no pain.  I sat up on the edge of the bed & laid on my bed, she helped me get down there & back up again.  Good luck!

hearthermcd - I have used Acupuncture for various issues over the last 6 years and every time I felt that it has helped me, including treatment for pain resulting from an injury.

When I was diagnosed with bc I started back again, and I truely believe it helped to me with stress before my BMX.  Then I started going two days before a chemo infusion, and I believe it has helped me with the SEs, including neuropathy and hot flashes.

I did try once to lay on my stomach with my expanders for about 5 minutes, but was not comfortable, so my acupuncturist treated me only while laying on my back, but everyone is different.

Just be sure to go to a reputable acupuncturist and ask them what they are certified/trained to treat.

I haven't used it for hot flashes, but I heard that it does help a lot.
