Athena -- There ARE honest people in the world -- and you discovered one of them today!

Tonight's dinner was chicken-on-a-stick!  BBQ'd chicken kebabs, served on brown rice, and grilled fresh Ontario asparagus with lemon zest.  Oh, almost forgot -- Greek tzatziki for the chicken.  Fresh strawberries after.

RR - welcome back from me too!  Missed you!

Letlet -- I had the same reaction.  That sort of post wouldn't be allowed to stand on some other websites and it IS frustrating.

Oh, Athena... I hear you about the absent-mindedness. It does sound like your friends have your back, though.  Whew!

Dinner tonight... hmmm... Okay, it was grilled chicken breasts (should have had hubs baste them with something -- maybe a sweet/sour barbecue sauce), with boiled Irish potatoes (called "Irish" to distinguish from our beloved sweet potatoes, of which I'm all out) and some kind of frozen mixed veggies that included sprigs of asparagus and 5 other things.  Lots of colors.  Colors are good, yes?

Breyer's butter pecan ice cream for dessert.  Just a scoop-and-a-half (I'm trying!), but it was oh-so-tasty and rich!

My sister and I cleaned out half the contents of the attic of our parents' garage this morning. Did I mention that dh and I are spending 2 weeks at my parents' house with my sister, sorting/emptying/selling/etc.? We've only been here 3 days, and I'm exhausted.  Every couple of hours, dh comes up to me with this grave look on his face and whispers, "Promise me that when we get home, we'll clean out the garage and the basement and we'll take a truckload to Goodwill?".

Hubs is ditching us tomorrow -- he's going fishing. Sis and I had our first argument this afternoon, over what we should do with the many dozens of books on our parents' bookshelves. Sheesh. Hubs keeps telling me to just let her have her way -- it's not worth arguing. But some people spend their whole lives getting their way, whenever there's a decision to be made or a difference of opinion about something.  They never learn to compromise, or to concede. Or, to share, or to be civil and polite.

I don't want to let her have her way all the time.  I don't agree with her priorities; I think she's being mean.  As a result, I feel like I'm about 10 years old all over again, with our (dear, deceased) mother scolding us indiscriminately even though only one of us was being inconsiderate.

E....I'm sorry you feel the need to disappear for awhile. No one needs any unnecessary stress in their lives. Hope you begin to feel better soon. You will be missed by many of the ladies here.  Smile

    Hi Otter,

aren't Otters supposed to be the ones going fishing? Smile

Does this mean you "get" to spend tomorrow alone with your sister?  Sheesh, indeed... here's hoping there is more sharing, compromising and civility headed in your direction.

Ann, you have me laughing, and it feels good!  Yes, of course, otters should get to go fishing.  I'll see what I can do about that, but perhaps not tomorrow.  The super-size dumpster arrives tomorrow.

I do wish I'd had hubs buy some chocolate ice cream and hot fudge sauce when he went grocery-shopping today.  Butter pecan is good, but I think chocolate is what I need.

OMG I just got caught up!! I need to "work from home" more so I can stay on top of things..

Otter I can't believe you just said ice cream...now that will be all i think of until I go to sleep. I;ve been trying to be good as I gained about 15lbs since diagnosis...chemo...hormones in flux. And the hardest part is Baskin Robbins is right down the street..oh yeah WITH a Dunkin Donuts drive thru...how cruel.

Jancie I can not stop watching the Casey Anthony trial...I can't believe all the stunts the defense is pulling. I loved tonight on Nancy Grace (LOVE her) she showed a moment that the camera caught of Casey A. being a brat yelling at her attorneys and then realized she was on camera and changed her demeanor immediately. It was priceless..you really get a lot of insight into her from that one moment. WOnder what the jury is thinking.

Gracie scary story...I can't imagine having to deal with al you've endured and being harassed on top of it all.

I feel a little bit sad - here we have someone that posted that she is concerned because she followed her doctor's advice and is doing chemo but now is wondering if she made the right decision.  By the OP it seems as though (and I am assuming) that she read through some threads here that said chemo was poisonous.  What a shame.  With her stats it is important that she does chemo.

We all are concerned about the newbies getting the wrong information and we have every right to be concerned for them.

It is interesting that the deleters seem to have been off the boards lately. Perhaps that means the mods realize they were reporting posts that violated no rule. I sincerely hope so and thank them, if that is the case.

thanks Jancie, I found the thread too, and posted after Susieq.

Hope everyone is having a good day.  We've FINALLY gotten some sunshine in western MA. Jeez it has been so wet, I was feeling mildewed.  But nothing like folks in mid west, and wish we could send some of it to AZ.  Hope all are well.

Otter, your post about the argument with your sister over the books cracked me up. Are you a middle child, by chance? My older sister always gets her way. It's just easier for me to let her do it her way.

Otter, my sincere condolences. Sisters are a nightmare sometimes. Some people actually enjoy arguing until the cows come home over nothing - I am sure of it. It is exhausting and depressing, and too bad that your DH is not there for comfort, although I wonder if he partly went fishing to spare himself the drama.

Yes, I assume that the troublemakers have been banned. At least for now.

Wish they would be banned but usually after one of their "drive bys" they go back to their "other" site and hang out till it's time to upset everyone again.

I found this fascinating.  Turns out there's something called Charles Bonnet syndrome that's fairly common among the elderly with macular degeneration and other vision problems; according the to American Foundation for the Blind, 20-40% of those with significant vision loss are affected by this syndrome, which causes them to see people and things that aren't there.  A lot of them are embarrassed to admit what's going on, or worry that they're losing their minds.  But a lot also come to enjoy their visions, and miss them when they go away (the syndrome typically resolves after a year or two).

The specific example cited in the article was a woman who quite enjoyed her daily visions of (ta da, and the reason this is appropriate for this thread!) . . . A FULL-DRESSED CANADIAN MOUNTIE.

Lewing, thanks I needed a laugh.

Athena and Lindasa thanks, I've missed the conversation here, don't think I can catch up so I'm just going to jump in.

Enjoyful I see you've been going through a really rough illness.  I hope you're feeling better soon.

Hahaha Lewing!  Bet she was just waiting for that fully dressed Mountie to start taking his clothes off -- let's see, hat first, then brown belt, then the spurs, then those sexy brown boots, then the red tunic.......

BTW, that's the "dress" uniform for the RCMP.  They don't wear it on a daily basis; always makes me giggle when I see a TV show where a "dressed up" Mountie is doing everyday policing work!

I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Elizabeth. What a great gal she was. I always enjoyed her comments.

I have been away for a few weeks and I saw this article in a British Newspaper. You may have already seen it. The article is about a new breast cancer drug dubbed "wonder drug" that could potentially fight all cancers.

I was going to say something about preferring undressed Mounties in my original post, but I knew I could count on one of you to work that in!  I'm loving lindasa's description of the Mountie strip tease.

(And yeah, I think we could all use a laugh this morning.)
