newly diagnosed, just had bilateral mastectomy
Hello- what a whirlwind. Had nipple discharge and within 2 weeks diagnosed with breast cancer IDC and had bilateral mastectomy, left breast this past Thursday. Will see the surgeon tomorrow and get scheduled for the oncologist as well. I don't know stages or anything like that. I know that several lymph nodes tested positive and they had to take them during surgery. Have drains, feeling very scared. I have a wonderful family, husband of 27 years, 2 girls 22 and 25 and 2 new twin granddaughters 11 weeks old. This website has helped me, overwelmed me too. I am hopeful now that as I go thru this, that this website will fill in alot for me. I want to be a survivor- all had thoughts of seeing my great grandchildren and determined to see my granddaughters grow up. I also have 5 dogs who do not leave my side. I am sorry you are all here but also very glad you are all here.

wow, you got totally thrown on the roller coaster ride
....
but I'm glad you found us. There's a wealth of info and lovely, informed people on this site.
Once you and your oncologist have a treatment plan in place, it'll be less overwhelming. It was for me. I've had chemo, lumpectomy, and now am on a 2nd kind of chemo. I'm finding it's all doable.
hang in there!...ellen
ps...I have 3 dogs that have been so helpful during this journey

good morning yaya... I am very glad you found this web site. I am just beginning my journey and do not have the complete map I will be taking. But so far this site has not only been a source of information but the women here are supporting and wonderful. I think emotions do run up and down and up is way better but when down certainly come here.
I am so so happy you have the strength and wherewith all to even get on here and type. I think your probably an amazing woman and I look forward to hearing how your doing. Have a super day.

I got my diagnosis last Thurday and I'll be having a bilateralNS/SS mastectomy with TE next Friday. Talk about spinning!!!I went along very nicely with a diagnosis of ALH and LCIS being told by EVERYONE that it was nothing,we'll keep a close eye on you. Well they did but it didn't help. Last mammo 6 months ago was neg as was mri 2 months ago.Had a routine US pushed up a bit due to a small lesion I felt in my breast and mammo of that breast prior to US found new calcs in another location of the breast. Core biopsy that same day revealed more LCIS,ADL(new) DCIS(new) and iv=nvasive ductal carcinoma( definately new).I have been recovering the past 20 months form a total shoulder replacement and I have bilateral total hip replacements. Did I mention that I;m a competative tennis player??? I'm sick of surgeries and time in PT. NOW THIS!!!Excuse me while i explode!Barbara

Hi Ladies- had my first chemo session 6/2. TCH and then I get lapatinib as well - in a clinical trial. Had no effects until Saturday- minor, Sunday a little worse and Monday was the worst. Today still very tired and little appetite. All my scans came back clear!! My brain, bones, organs, chestwall everything is clear- dr says all that is left is micro cancer cells in my blood stream. It was the best news- had my oldest daughter with me when told- will NEVER forget that moment or the look in my daughter's eyes. I'm going to get thru this I know- but jeez how did ya'll eat???? I'm an hour and 1/2 into my chicken noodle soup still trying to finish it.

Hi yaya! I know exactly how you feel! I thought I have IDC. I had my left breast removed 4 weeks ago and another surgery two weeks ago to remove more lymph nodes. I still have one drain and have been wearing this vest bra thing since May 24th! So many things go through our minds on this journey. Mine as well has just begun. I spent countless hours staring at my 9 year old son while he was asleep. One of my sons got married two days before my surgery. His original date was in October, but I think he was afraid I might be in bad shape. lol. My mind was preoccupied wiuth thoughts of my husband (who is in Afghanistan), my grandchildren, my children. I know how you feel. It's like your world stops and becomes compartmentalized. i would say to do everything you can to tell yourself that you will beat this. Do everything to not let it become your life. Don't think about it unless you have to. Stay buisy and occupied. Wake up everyday and make it as normal and regular of a day as you ahd before your diagnosis. It can be really difficult, but if we concentrate more on living than what life might be missed, we focus on the positives. And focus is power. Hang in there and best wishes!

Hi girls! I was just diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer. I was shocked. Went in for regular mammo and had enlarged lymph node on the right side. Biopsied and this was diagnosis. Had Breast MRI done and absolutely no sign of cancer in either breast but they say this is common and that it is there because lymph node shows it. It has at least spread to lymph nodes. Had ct scan and bone scan today and waiting to see if has spread. I am so confused. I've heard radical mastectomy is horrible and they are suggesting the surgeon will want me to do this when I see him Wednesday. Praying has not metastised. Has anyone else had no sign of the cancer at all?

Yes hang in there. I am beginning same trip. I pray and pray and truly believe I am in God's hands but when I think of my grandchildren is when I get emotional. How painful has surgery been afterwards? I am sorry we had to meet this way but hope we can all help each other.
