A NEW PRIMARY OR METS?
Today i went to see onc for results of ct scan, she said i have a 1.5cm shadow on my left lung, bone scan clear. She has ordered a biopsy and said we will take it from there. She has not confirmed cancer but talked about different treatments with regards to the outcome of the biopsy. Totally confused, my dh is in bits we have both gone over the conversation with the onc and both come to the same conclusion,,,, are they checking for a new primary or mets from breast cancer. hugs

Hi Dawn- they are probably checking for both possible situations and will be able to tell with a biopsy. I also have a lung lesion (3cmX6cm) Awaiting my next CAT scan after a CAT/PET combo a few months back showed SUV uptake in the mid range. Has your Onco suggested that at all prior to doing the biopsy. Just curious as I was trying to avoid the biopsy and am watching and waiting to see changes etc.
On a good note, a good friend of mine just had a lung biopsy and it was b9 after BC dx. So there are possible alternate and better outcomes.
Wishing you strength as you go through this.

Hi Bevin, thank you for your kind words and support, the onc only mentioned an emergency biopsy to clarify the results. I;m currently functioning on adrenalin having been told this could take upto 4 weeks, this as been going on since 28th April and we have not mentioned anything to our 2 teenage daughters or son until we have a definate diagnosis, and the strain is beginning to show. hopefully the result will come back B9 but my mind is working overtime with the waiting. Wishing you well. hugs

Dawn - my heart goes out to you. I would wait to tell your children too. I am a big believer in children dont need adult worries. Until your certain, I think you're making the right choice to wait. Its got to be very hard on you and veyr exhausting. try to eat well and rest to keep your body strong. Ask for some xanax or ambien, somthing to help you sleep if you can't. You dont want to be fatigued and exhausted on top of this. 4 weeks does seem a long time to wait for an appointment, Maybe they can put you on the waiting list ?
Stay in touch, let me know how you make out. Thoughts of strength for you.

Dawn,
I am sorry to hear your news and I understand how frustrating waiting is. I wish someone would find a way for us to have scans sooner, within the same week and result before the end of the same week.
My CT scan was Wednesday and they found a "spot" on my Liver so Monday I have to have an MRI. I (at this point) keep asking myself how come we didn't know? How can we have so much cancer growing inside of us, for years at a time, and just not know?
Its seems over used as I just had it told to me today but, waiting is the hardest part.
Bless you all, and may we all find our inner strength through these trying times.

Ah crap, Dawn!!! The only good thing you can take from this is that it's not mets, right?
-
The onc said its non small cell which is the least aggressive, possible treatment is surgery or rads. I need a pet scan first and depending on results depends on what treatment i have. I will keep you updated and hope I can still call upon you wonderful ladies for support even though its not breast cancer related. Hugs

Hang on!! I missed a link...are you saying it's lung cancer? I 'assumed' you meant breast cancer in the lung, but with different receptors so you knew it was a new primary.
If that's the case, double holy crap!! It's like breast cancer was just a trial run or something....
-
Yes it's a new cancer, nothing to do with the breast cancer, I don't have any symptoms at all it was found by chance on an x ray the onc ordered because i was having the occasional breast bone pain, it is such a shock and I know ive got to find the strenght to fight a different cancer. Hugs

I am so sorry you have to deal with another cancer. It seems so unfair. You must find yourself in a fog now. You will find the strength again to fight this cancer. You also need lots of support. Let other people help you. Is there a counsellor at the Cancer agency you can see. This is a lot of physical and emotional strain. A big cyber hug for you and all my best wishes.
