Confuse and need your help

edited June 2014 in IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma)

Hi Sisters, I need your help on understanding my cancer type. When I was first dx my pathology report said inflammatory carcinoma but the information I got from my onc says infiltrating intraductal carcinoma high grade with axillary lymph node involvement adenocarcinoma which is estrogen receptor positive and progestereron receptor positive and HER-2 oncogene positive. Does this mean that I fall under IDC or IBC category?   Hugs always, Deb

    deb - From what you are describing, I would think you would be IDC.  This sounds like a good question for you onc although you have said you already talked to him/her.  It doesn't hurt to get clarication to you know absolutely for sure.  This is a confusing and overwhelming time.  Once you have a plan in place it does get better.  It may help to find the forums for Stage 3s.  There you will find very caring and supportive ladies who have been there and will answer all your questions and share their BC experiences.  Try to relax and breathe.  Best of luck to you.

    I think I would call the nurse to verify which.....they are quite different.  It sounds more like IDC to me......I hope you get the info you need quickly - nothing worse than waiting.

    Hi Deb I don't have an answer for you but I'm sure some of the wonderful ladies on this board will be along shortly and have an answer for you. I myself know my BC is IDC only because that is what my oncologist told me. Just wanted to say welcome and that you will find a wealth of information here.

    You're only a phone call away from having the Oncologist's office clear that up for you.  Their answer is going to be better than our guesses on this.  IF your B/C was something that was palpable, and you felt a lump, I'd say more likely it was IDC; also your age makes that more likely; also the fact that IBC is a much rarer form of B/C; but I'm just guessing.

    Thank you for your replies. I do know that it is a rare aggressive cancer and my onc is treating it as aggressive. I am having herceptin, taxotere and carboplatin on Mondays. Just finish sesson 2 out of 4. Each sessions is 5 treatments. Had another PET scan/CT and see the doctor on Monday. I will ask him. Hopefully the tumor is getting smaller and we can move forward with the surgery. Again, thank you so much for the warm welcoming and your help. Hugs, Deb

    Deb.....sending positive thoughts that your doctor tells you on Monday that your tumor is shrinking, so you can get the surgery you need done.

    Deb your onc will be treating it aggressively because it is grade 3. The rest sounds like IDC to me but I am not a doc....give your onc's office a call.
