dimpling
Did any of you ladies have dimpling and pulling in your breast as a result of the ILC?

Yes, I had dimpling on my right breast. No Lump. They did an ultrasound biopsy and found that I has ILC. I had more biopsies and they found it in another quadrant of the same breast. The left breast was also biopsied but none was found. I let the dimpling on my breast go for several months before I had any doctor take a look at it as I had no pain or a lump. Please have someone look at it if you haven't already. I never knew that it could be cancer. I had a mastectomy with lymph node involvement and 4 rounds of chemo. I also have lupus, sjogrens, and fibromalgia. and am having terrible side effects with any of the hormone inhibitors. Currently taking none of them and waiting for the joint and bone pain to subside.

I had a large dimple in my breast at about the 6 o clock position. So it wasn't something I could look down and see. I have large breasts, and they are not something I look at in the mirror. So I did not look for this dimpling until I discovered the lump in my breast. Then it was very apparent when I looked in the mirror. I received my dx of bc a couple weeks after I found the lump.
I am currently undergoing chemo--have one more treatment (my 6th one) to go. The lump has shrunk from the chemo and the dimpling is pretty much gone. My breasts look almost the same shape now. Before, the dimpling made my breast lopsided.
-
Yes, I had a dimple-my only tip-off that something was wrong. Mammograms were all clear...
-
I also had dimpling in my left breast. After about a week I felt a lump way down deep. I went the same day to see my gyn MD and she also noticed a lump above my right breast. I had large lumpy breasts and never noticed. Also 12 years of normal mammograms. I ended up with ILC tumours in both breasts along with + lymph nodes on both sides. My breast surgeon was shocked I found it myself as ILC is tricky to find. It is now about 3 years later and thank God all is well.
-
thanks for responding! I have had dimpling the size of a quarter in my left breast for over 8 months and in the last four months have also had pulling/dimpling on the bottom half of the same breast. The doctor didnt do an ultrasound or mammogram but they did do an MRI because its so visible but that came back clear, I dont know if the radiologist was looking for a lump because I cant find one of those either...I dont know what the next step should be, any thoughts?
-
It seems the radiologist would be looking for a lump or mass in the area of your dimpling. What does your current doctor say might be the cause of the dimpling? Perhaps you need a second opinion from another doctor.
-
astra1215 -ILC can be tricky to diagnose. I recently read that MRI picks up 81% of ILC, this statistic is just from 1 study. But if you read the ILC boards you will find women who had ILC detected by ultrasound after having normal mammograms and MRI's and you can find women who had it detected on MRI. Did you have a digital MRI with compression of the area of concern? My ILC was seen on the compression view but not the normal mammogram. It was also seen on ultrasound. I would definitely not rest just based on the MRI result.
-
toomuch, that is such good information. astra, I would not allow the dimpling to continue without finding the cause. If it were me, I would definitely be following up using the information toomuch has provided, and asking the doctor more questions.
-
I dont know if they did a compression view, when my doctor called with the results she didn't say anything about that, 6 months before she ordered the mri she tried to say my muscles were doing it but trust me I haven't started working out, but when it appeared in several more spots 6 months later she stopped giving possible reasons and just says she doesn't know what is causing it. and now i just have to go back in 6 months. I really don't think I can wait that long before I get another chance to figure it out.
-
It sounds to me like you should look for a second opinion from another doctor. Ask around to find a recommended doctor. I certainly wish I'd noticed the dimpling sooner or understood it could be a sign of bc. Follow your instincts and follow up on the dimpling.
-
thank you everyone!! On tuesday I will call the breast center and see if there is anything else that can be done before my appt six months from now.
-
Good to hear! You need to know the answer. And a good doc would want to know the answer too.
-
i just worry that 1. the doctor will still want to wait and see what it looks like in 6 months and 2. that even with every imaging test available I still wont be given a reason for the dimpling/pulling because it wont show up on any test.
-
If your current doc wants to wait, try to find a breast specialist who will take your concerns seriously and want to find out now what is causing the dimpling. What are your instincts and intuition telling you? That there may be a serious reason for the dimpling? If so, follow your intuition and get a second opinion. It is your body. We have all heard stories of doctors who put off women's concerns only for the women to find out that they were right and the doctors were wrong to not take them more seriously. You have to be your own best advocate.

ok one more question
Should i call the same facility to get another opinion or try for another facility?? I just checked with my insurance and it is covered so thats one less worry! -
astra, your situation popped into my mind this week and I was wondering what the latest news was.
As for where to go, do you feel another doctor at the same facility would approach your health concerns with a new perspective? Maybe a different team of doctors from a different medical practice would be your best bet. It often helps to ask around who might know of a good facility or specific doctor who has a reputation for addressing the concerns of the patient.
Please keep us posted. God bless.
-
i have an appointment thursday at the same facility with a doctor, not before i got spoken to about asking for 2nd opinion without contacting my n.p first! Depending on this doctor and if they actually take the time to listen to me I might end up going to a different facility. I will keep you posted!
-
Good luck and God bless.

My dimpling, which I noticed after losing weight from lots of exercise and eating right, was my only clue. My tumour was deep inside the breast tissue. It took the surgeon time to find it.....but he did and I am sitting here 3 weeks out from a bmx at a satge 2a with no nodal involvement thank goodness:) Make sure you get an answer. I demanded a biopsy.
-
how did he find it and by "it" you mean a lump? hopefully the surgeon can find something to explain it because i'm at my wits end. All the dimpling is in one breast and i am now noticing more than before. i now have at least five different spots of dimpling. Some are coin shaped and sized and others are little indents and then one i saw today goes left to right and looks like a wide line. I am getting very frustrated with the watch and wait methods doctors like to use...
-
saw the doctor today, went pretty well have ultrasound tomorrow to rule out Monders? and if they dont see the vein for that then I will have a biopsy. The more I read about Monders the more I am convinced that my dimpling is not linked to that...
-
astra, let us know what you find out. I am glad you are getting a second opinion. Love and prayers.
-
no evidence of Mondor's , radiologist tried saying maybe it was just how my breast tissue was...surgeon still wants a biopsy just not sure when
-
I don't have a medical background, but it seems to me the dimpling is a 'symptom' of something. I disagree with the radiologist who is saying maybe it's just how your breast tissue is.
It is good that you will have a biopsy. Please don't let your surgeon put the procedure off for too long. Especially since you are noticing more dimpling of the breast.
-
Yes, that is how I found it.
-
I definitely think you need a second opinion from a breast specialist in a major city. I had lots of mammograms, then ultrasound, MRI, biopsies. Even; my famous surgeon had difficulty finding it but the biopsies told him it was there. As my doctors say, "It's sneaky. As I am sure you know by now, ILC is difficult to find. My doctors waited for 5 months before I had proper surgery and by that time they were not able to remove all cells. I am in the process of debating whether or not to have a double mastectomy due to the possibility of it spreading to the other breast.
-
I am still waiting to hear from the surgeon about when I will be having the biopsies . She said they will be biopsying the area under the dimpling so hopefully that gives some explanation.
Codysjudy -Your ILC didnt show up on any of the tests? Just the biopsy?
TheDivineMrsM- I agee the dimpling is just too weird and still every month there seems to be more so i disagree with the radiologist , especcially since she thinks its how the glands line up but if i'm leaning forward and the dimpling is still obvious, then if it was just glands or whatever wouldnt all that stuff fill in the "hole" when i lean forward? idk I'm just rambling but do you get what I mean?
-
The enlarged lymph node showed up on ultrasound but they had a very hard time finding the lesion. Of course, they did or they would not have been able to biopsy. Nothing showed on the mammograms.
-
It sounds to me like you might want to contact your surgeon's office and inquire about when the biopsy will be. It seems like they would at least have your name on a schedule by now.
-
Im new here but it amazes me to hear similar situations.i found a lump under my left armpit. Then an indention on the curve of my left breast..radiologist said that he didnt see anything so it must be normal breast changes. Are they crazy!Im geeting an appointment with a surgeon this week. This is so scary to me.
