My friend has a vaporizer and loves it. In Michigan, the docs don't write an rx. You have to go to a clinic that specializes in it and register for a card to buy it. Once your paperwork is done you can then purchase from the various clinics around with or without the blessing of your onc. It cost anywhere fro $10-$25 a gram depending on what kind you want and that will last you forever if you are just just it medicinally.  Hope this info helps. Also I have used it for PTSD when I start to freak out. It helps greatly. In Michigan cancer is an auto yes for the card. Side effects: you  should stay home as it makes you a bit silly. For me it is a welcome mood lift.

    Best wishes

Sama710: my gp prescribed lexapro to help me get thru treatment. She indicated it would be a year commitment as SSRIs aren't something you take for a few weeks and stop. You must be weaned off.

I didn't want to take something that I would be making a long term commitment to, I already have tamoxifen in my future.

I have been taking klonopin or Xanax for anxiety every so often, but that is highly addictive. I decided to look at mj as an alternative, just to take the edge off or help me sleep. I felt it was safer and less addictive than other alternatives.

I am not into smoking even vapor method, I work out and want to keep my lungs pink and healthy. I discovered a tincture, which is mj in liquid form. I can regulate the dose by squirting a few drops into a drink. I take enough to take the edge off, not enough to feel high. This helps alleviate anxiety and depression without the need for a long term commitment of an SSRI or a continual refill of klonopin or Xanax.

Not something i intend on taking forever, just to get me thru treatment.

sama,  too bad your doc wont write the prescript.   its a lot less damaging than the drugs we are taking.  I would get it myself and keep my mouth shut or tell them your doing it anyway.

    Sama,

You are in a wonderful state for this. http://coloradomedicalmarijuana.com/

There is a medical marijuana magazine published there. The is also Robert Melemede, PhD, at the University of Colorado who is a researcher and professor of Cannabis studies. Very technical cannabinoid receptor scientific stuff stuff--but try emailing him for a referral.  Also check out:

Here is an interesting read about the anti-cancer properties of MJ.

Research that is mentioned is also cited so you can look at them as well. (50 of them)

Thanks for all the info, gals!  This is really helpful.  I do have a doctor friend who I thought would be helpful, but who is against MMJ.  Probably no surprise, but she indicated that there is actually a lot of research showing cannabis is NOT helpful for things like anxiety.  That's kind of hard to believe, given it's known effects on -- well -- everyone I know who uses it!

I know that the drug companies control a lot of western medicine, but I want to be open minded about both the pros and cons of MMJ use, so I'm looking for any research that's not coming from someone selling MMJ.  There seems to be a great divide -- those who feel it cures everything and those who feel it's only possible use is pain control (for those of us no longer in chemo).  Opinions?  Research articles?

Merilee, just saw that your link contains names of articles in traditional medical journals as well -- thanks for that info!

Re: anxiety. the only time I have known anyone to have anxiety ( paranoia) on Pot is if they smoke too much, like a whole joint or something. It is very strong medicine and should only be taken in small doses. On puff is all I ever use and today I bought the tincture to try.

RE: vaporizers. Where can you purchase those (that is if you live in a state where MMJ is NOT legalized)?

I have never used any kind of recreational drugs in my life, and I don't even smoke, so I am afraid I am going to be arrested on my very first attempt to obtain cannabis oil to try it. LOL.

See my separate post about this subject. I have made, used, and extensively tested this oil for the past couple of years. Can pretty much answer any question you might have about the oil ANS vaporizers. :)

I think you can buy vaporizers on the Internet. No law against them, just what you might put in the in some states.

sama, greetings to a fellow Boulderite!

There's a lot of misinformation (as usual) from our family docs and oncologists about the benefits of MMJ. There are so many different strains of it, and each has unique properties. many strains are fabulous for sleep and anxiety. Others help your nausea. Others help you with energy. A good MMJ clinic with knowledgeable "budtenders" can help. But with a shop on every street corner here, I wouldn't begin to know which ones were really good.

And, don't worry about  script from your doctor. Set up an appointment with a MMJ clinic's doc.

A friend of mine is looking into this now for her anxiety. No one is willing to prescribe anti-anxiety meds for her, and she has paradoxical reactions to many things. I'll keep you posted on what she discovers.

You are so right about the clinics. The good one offer classes so that  you can be very informed about strains and how to use them. Here in Lansing Mi they offer growing classes and legal classes as well at the more reputable clinics. Classes are free of charge.

Here is a start to your research if  you are interested. There are 2 main strains Indica and Sativa.

You can think of Sativa as a mood lift and energy, and decresed anxiety

You can think of Indica as a mood lift and help with relaxing and sleep

Both help with nausea, pain, and appetite

There are things to eat such as hard candies, and there is tea, and much more.

There are Hybrids of these with endless names that are grown for specific remedies. Hope this helps get you looking in the right direction for info.

In Michigan if you are registered you can grow two plants for yourself and then sell left overs to the clinics if you also register as a grower, the clinics sell live plants.

Seeds are available online.  There are many different seed banks.  I prefer this one:

You gals are asking a lot of questions and, as I said in my post about cannabis oil, I have answers.  Or would y'all rather just guess at how it's made and what is the best material to use?  I've been lurking here for years, but just now posted cuz I'm Stage IV and that scares a lot of people, so mostly I just read.  But this particular topic is one of my passions, so I figured I'd share my knowledge with those of you who are interested, and there are obviously several who are interested.

Heck, you Boulder gals ... I could even teach you to make it.  I live in Woodland Park.  :)

Yazmin, I have purchased some of my vaporizers online.  Or if there are any headshops in your area, you might find some there.  And they're not all created equal.  I have five different ones, in five different price ranges and hit delivery.  Some of my vapes deliver small hits and others deliver big, ripping hits.  So, which one you choose would depend on your need.  Some of them take a while to warm up and if you're needing it for quick pain or nausea relief, those are not the models for you.  There is one, called the Purple Days, that is designed to stay plugged in and on all the time ... ready always.  Perfect for the medical user who needs it quickly.  But the hits are kind of smallish ... gets the job done, but you might have to work a bit harder for it.

Luan, it's entitled "Cannabis oil -I can help". I was beginning to think no one could see my posts until you responded to one earlier, because though this thread is active, I have only had one response to my post. Or then I thought it was because I have been lurking. But it's there ... Hopefully more of you gals will see it and post. :)

    Melissa:

Thank you for your answer. I sent you a PM. I essentially wanted to know which sites would be trustworthy to buy vaporizers.

Also: can you safely travel with those (i.e.: through airports, etc....)?

    EDITED TO ADD:

Does anybody know if MMJ is legal in Maryland, or Virginia, or in a neighboring state?

Any clinics that you all might know of in any of those places?

    Thanks again.

Michigan code says that the law here is not reciprocal. You can not take it across state lines legally.

DC is medically legal, but not Maryland or Virginia ... heck, FORGET anywhere south!  Virginia's getting close to south.  LOL

Yazmin, what vaporizer sites are you perusing and which models are you considering?  For a new, medical user, I would highly recommend the Purple Days.  Or if you want a portable model, a Magic Flight Launch Box.  Neither one take any time to warm up and both deliver small hits which are perfect for a new user.  Just my two cents' worth.  I started out with a big vape and put myself into a bad place on more than one occasion.  Just like with anything that can alter your consciousness, too much of a good thing turns quickly into a bad thing.  LOL

    Hi, Melissa:

Sorry, I've been MIA for a while. Frankly, I have absolutely no idea what vaporizer I want, because I know so incredibly little about MMJ, (and virtually nothing about other drugs Smile).

Thanks to you and others, I am now completely convinced that MMJ is medicine (if one knows how to use it, not abuse it), but I am still struggling with the fact that it is, legally speaking, an "illicit" drug. A strong one, for that matter. I can see you put yourself in a "bad place" on several occasions, even though you are a seasoned user, and that's Food for thought!

I guess it will take me a while to figure out which way to go. Thank you for the tip on Magic Flight, though.

    Hi Ladies,

Just for the record I wanted to add that I do not sell hemp oil capsules as in england it is illegal to have or supply cannabis, due to this I cannot and do not sell hemp oil capsules I only make enough for myself. Sorry but thats the law in england anyway.
