TNBC & what are threads?

I joined this site yesterday and  am so happy to have found it.  I, too, have TNBC with matrix-producing tumor, which is considered metaplastic.  That is very scary to me as I can't find that it has an established protocol it responds well too. I also am uncertain about what type follow-up I need.  I had  bilateral mastectomies in  November, 2010 followed by 3 cycles FEC and 3 cycles Taxotere which finished April19th. My first follow-up is July 28.  I know I will have blood work, but am unclear whether I will need PET/CT scans .  Any feedback with your experiences, insight, advice, etc will be greatly appreciated.  I don't know what "threads" are; someone please tell me.  I don't want to break any site rules!  Thank you.  Blessings to all.  Gami43

    Welcome to the site, Gami43!

Here's a summary that covers what threads are, taken from the Help section:

Categories – For example, “Not Diagnosed but Concerned” is a Category and holds Forums such as “Not Diagnosed but Worried” and “High Risk Women.”
Forums – Forums are subsets of Categories and provide specific topic areas for Community Members to submit content. For example, if you are a Community Member who is worried about breast cancer, but is not diagnosed, you would choose the “Not diagnosed but worried” Forum to submit your concern.
Topics – Topics are subsets of Forums. Once you have found an appropriate Forum to submit your content to, you can start a new Topic that details your question or concern.
Posts – Posts are subsets of Topics. Once you or another Community Member has started a Topic, Posts can be added to the Topic by you and other Community Members.
The Triple Negative forum is a good place to start.

Gami ~ I think it will be clearer if you click on Forum Index above.  When you do that, scroll down and you'll see the many forums or categories here.  Click on any one of them and you'll see there are many topics (i.e. discussions; threads) within that Forum.  So a thread is merely a discussion or a topic within one of those Forums -- exactly what you've started here.

Hopefully those with similar stats to yours will be along to answer your questions about followup, etc., but I just wanted to try to help with your threads question.   Deanna

Welcome Gami. I well remember being in your place - finished treatment and the oncologist saying I'll see you in three months. I was shocked that after so much going on, I was going to be left alone for three months. As regards scans, it seems that there is a whole lot of variety in what patients want/get and what doctors say. Some people have regular follow up scans as a reassurance that everything is ok. Some people don't want the "scanxiety." Some doctors will order scans if you want them. Some doctors will not do scans unless there are some symptoms that suggest a scan is necessary. It is my understanding that finding something on a scan or when symptoms manifest themselves do not affect further treatment or the outcome of treatment. I'm sure others will come along with more opinions. But the bottom line is there are no set rules for what happens next. I am 2 years out from diagnosis and have 3 monthly oncologist check ups with a clinical breast exam, blood work every time and mammos every six months. No scans.

Thanks so much for the info.  Another new word for me; there have been so many new ones since my dx last Oct!

Gill - thanks for your response.  It sounds like you've done well with your every 3 months check-up.  I guess I need to get off my paranoid state of mind about mets.  I've got a lot of thinking to do about scans - I never thought about having "spanxiety".  Good point.   Thanks again. Blessings, Gami

gami, if you're ever looking for what some new BC word or term means, go to the main Breastcancer.org site (click the link at the top left of any page) and enter the word/s into the Search box you'll see there.

The site is packed with info, along with what you'll learn from the first-hand experiences of Community members.
