A little concerned.

Hi.  I am having severe lower back, left buttock pain that is now radiating down the side of my hip.  It began yesterday morning when I first woke up and was getting ready for work and had the dry-heaves. I have gastroparesis which causes alot of nausea/vomiting. Anyways, I know due to the symptoms its sciatica pain, but I was googling it to decide if I should go to the emergency room or not, becuase its so severe that I can hardly move, walk, etc.  On some of the sites, it tells you to seek medical attention if you have a history of cancer.  Has anyone here had these symptoms which turned out to be bone mets?  my spine doesn't hurt.  I'm concerned and my husband is going to take me to the er later this evening.  I'll post later after I find out anything from the visit.

take care,

deb

So sorry you're in pain, Deb, but if you didn't have it prior to the dry heaves episode, do you think you might have thrown something out when that happened?  Maybe a disc or something shifted with the force and is pinching a nerve.  If you're in severe pain, of course you must seek medical attention.  OTOH, I've always heard that it's a good idea to wait 2 or even 3 weeks with a new pain, to see if it resolves on it's own, as most seem to do, before subjecting yourself to scans, etc., that may not be needed had you waited a few days.

Good luck, and keep us posted ~  Deanna

It sounds like you pulled something during your episode, but the radiating pain down the hip sounds like sciatic nerve pain to me, which can last awhile. I had it for several months before I realized that driving a stickshift car was causing it. You should get it checked out just so you know. Hope it resolves soon, hugs!

Thanks, ya'll. I just got home from the er and they gave me dilaudid, phenergan, toradol and benedryl in shot form to help with the Sciatic pain & inflammation. (the benedryl to help the dilaudid from making me itch). I'm supposed to follow up with my doctor to find out what's causing it. I agree, I think the dry-heaving caused it. I'm going to wait a week or two before I follow up with my doc in case these symptoms go away.

Glad you are feeling better Debbie. We have similar dx and I can understand why you would be worried. I don't think that fear will ever leave me. I'm glad you went to the ER and got it checked out. We can't be too cautious.
