Rachel and thegood you both look great. SO lucky you don't have the curly afro like mine.
-
Hi, I was also told I could color when I wanted to and I am going to do just that next week, which coincidentally is 12 weeks out. I'm not sure of the rationale behind waiting 3 months. I would ask your oncologist?
-
I called the cancer society and they said to wait 6 months to color I waited 5.
-
thegood5- your hair is so cute! Looks like a read hairdo, not a chemo hairdo. I think you looks great in short hair, will you keep it short?
-
Thanks everyone! Finally feeling somewhat normal and I don't even worry about putting on a hat when I go out anywhere...very freeing! Lago~Thanks about my eyes...I'm the only one in my family, both sides, that has blue eyes, besides my maternal grandfather who passed away. I'm also the only blonde, or should I say WAS the only blonde...really hoping that it lightens up! (and no, I'm not the mailman's daughter!) My sister, aka my hairdresser, hopes it stays brown because she said my eyes pop, but I don't think I can stay this short...always had it in a bob or shoulder length, although I am lovin the 30 sec. it takes to fix it in the morning!
-
Good5, awesome eyes, awesome hair!
BDavis
I really like your before look, and i'm digging all your growth now too!!
On the hair color:
I'm *so* coloring it the minute it is long enough. No way am I waiting 6 mos.
Although--did you guys see ABC World News tonight?? Reserach scientists have isolated two stem cells that work together to create hair color. As we age, the cells quit working together, and hair goes gray. Scientists have determined which protein causes the cells to work together again, and turned completely gray mice back to full, bushy dark hair!Whoo hoo!!
And, they mentioned that the hair color industry is a $2 Billion Dollar Industry. Wow. -
Can anyone who has had that post chemo white fluff as their initial hair growth tell me how long it took to have actual hair for them?
-
marial - hair growth follows right along behind the white fluff, it doesn't take long. The new hair is just like baby hair and once it had filled in a bit, I started snipping the white fluffy ends off and it seemed to really help it fill in (and not to mention get rid of some of that white too!).
thegood5 - you look maaarrrrvelous! Looks like your hair is coming in pretty straight - mine used to be bone straight but the way it in clinging to my head right now, I'm thinking there is a definite wave to it. I am really curious to see what it does as it gets longer - right now it just seems to be getting thicker and thicker and feels like a carpet on my head. I know I should be thankful that it is not thin - heck I'm just thankful for any kind of hair
My husband used to rub my head all the time when it was smooth and bald, then he was licking his hand and flattening my fluff LOL, now though, I have noticed that everyone wants to touch my hair - a little strange but whatever...go for it, might as well let them now when they can't mess it up!!
-
thegood5- LOVE your hair. I cannot wait. I will finish up in July, hopefully soon I will have some hair.
-
This is my favourite thread as it's so positive and hope filled.
-
Oh man, you ladies all look great!! I'm totally jealous of how straight your hair is. I'm 7 (almost 8) months pfc and it's getting quite a bit longer now but I have very thick hair and it's so curly. I've always had curly hair but it seems extra curly now. I look like Kramer if he put his finger in a light socket when I wake up in the morning, lol.
I'm wearing headbands to help control the poof on top and that seems to be helping for now.
On the plus side, I've found a great new hair dye. I've always used Clairol Natural Instincts and been pretty happy with it. I've recently switched to the Vibrant version though and like it much better. It has 100% gray coverage and it works much better at covering what gray I have.
-
Katherine you're not old enough to have more than 5 grey hairs.
I think you're hair looks beautiful. BTW I assume that's your daughter on your flicker site. She is adorable.
-
thegood5 and rachel you guys look fabulous.
I am the opposite, I am so jealous because I want thechemo curl and just not getting it. Getting to the point where it just sticks up everywhere and no amt of product is gonna hold it down.
I used a henna to color my hair and it works great! got it from an online supplement store, easy to use. I even shared with my girlfriend onher long hair and she loved it also.
-
Was told by my onc that I did not have to wait to color my hair, that it could be done anytime. Right now I just have the tiny white baby-bird-feather hair peaking thru....am only two weeks out since I completed chemo so I will wait for a bit more hair.
Do you think a semi-permanent hair color might be the way to go at first, or just jump right in there with the permanent stuff?
-
TheDivineMrsM I had a semipermanent Redken brand color done at a salon. It was $35. At first I felt it was too dark but it lightens with time and then I liked it better it was more natural looking. It's been about 7 weeks since then and the greys look blonde now so I can hold out a bit longer. I may try it myself next time seems pretty easy. I figure I could go to Sallys and ask for advise and get something. I never colored my own hair.
-
I did permanent only. We had to experiment a few times since it kept fading and was a bit too red. My hairdresser actually changed brands too. I've colored my hair 3 times now. I happy with the current color.
-
Rachel, you look amazing. And you look happy and healthy, too.
-
the good: beautiful! very styling
-
DivineMrsM, 2 weeks and some hair, you are off to a great start.
I am 7 weeks and everyday things look abit better. My hope is to have enough coverage by my next surgery to not have a white scalp (1 month away). I mentioned this to my youngest son, he told me he could color me with a brown sharpie marker anytime or go with me for a scalp tatoo. I plan on coloring as soon as there is enough to color, I think I will go to an Aveda salon as they use low chemical natural products, maybe safer on the tender scalp.
-
I have a question.. someone reported my pre-chemo photo as inappropriate and I got an email saying I had broken the rules... can someone tell me what rule I broke?? It is just a picture of me (with clothes on).
-
Maybe someone thought it was too "spicey." Sorry, couldn't help that. I think it's a great photo.
-
bdavis - that's ridiculous. Your pre-chemo photo is great!
-
bdavis there are some strange people here on this forum. Most of us are great but that was strange. Did you tell that person that the photos wasn't you. It's a photo of your evil twin?
So many folks forget this forum is about supporting each other not criticize every little word, post or photo.
So tell the photo police woman to stick it.
BTW I like your photo.
-
I agree Racy..I really enjoy this thread..sometimes I get on another post and end up reading something that ends up really depressing me.
Bdavis - I thought it was a great picture as well..totally do not understand that -
Maybe someone hit the REPORT THIS POST instead of the POST A REPLY button... I am going to go with that theory.
-
bdavis, I was going to say maybe someone hit the button accident just like you said. The pic was a good one of you and I can't imagine what it could have been reported for
-
Betsy - your pic was lovely! I'd be willing to go with the "hit the wrong button" story, but just this once!! Anymore problems and I side with Lago...
-
I agree, I can't imagine anyone truly thinking that was not appropriate. You like we all want to get back to.... Normal and lots of hair!!!
-
I hope you got that my comment was a joke in reference to the spice rack behind you!
Aimee
-
Betsy- I say accident because the other day I actually hit the 'Report this post' button by accident. Thankfully, a screen came up and asked me was I sure I wanted to report the post I was reading. I about crapped and hit cancel. The mouse on my laptop is crazy and I click on crap all the time accidentally...I hate this computer : )
What are most of you ladies doing about all the facial fuzz? I've heard it will fall out around 6 months PFC but I feel like a flipping hairy beast! I have NEVER had this much body hair EVER. Some of it actually is fuzzy but dark (in certain lighting). I am scared to shave it and make it worse. It's even on my ears. I also could probably shave my legs twice a day, which is not normal for me. I hate to admit it but I kinda enjoyed the hair loss everywhere except for my head. ha,ha
