JUNE 2011 RADS

Melanie: the docs gave me samples of all my creams - I like x-clair the most, it is very soothing other than that when the rash is bad i also have hydrocortisone with aloe cream and aquaphor in the jar.. about $6 at walmart.
-
I had my last Rads for my leg and arm yesterday (had to be transported from hospital to rad center and back).
I had no problems with any of the Rads. Other then fatque but that could be from the chemo too. (I started both the same day)
I am going to lay down now, I am tired.

Duckyb1- I had my surgery done at University of Pennsylvania down in Philadelphia, my medical onco is down there also. I am doing my radiation treatments at Crozer Cancer center. My med onco recommended a dr there, only because I am going for my treatments in the morning before work. I work in prospect park, so this is working well. I did not notice you lived so close by. Maybe after all this craziness settles down, we can meet for lunch. Looks as if our diagnosis is very similar also. I am praying I do not develop lyphedema, my right arm is beginning to feel very tight, not sure why. Things have been going so well for me, I am just waiting for the next shoe to drop. Hope I am wrong, but time will tell
-
suebak..........sounds good.............will keep in touch............I know how you feel about the other shoe..........................think not wearing shoes would help.............will write to you tomorrow when I take my wraps off ...........this is a pain in the ass when they are on, but I still can type................just hate the restriction...............ttyl
-
I made it to radiation on time today, that was a first. The entire staff cheered when I walked in the door. I am terrible, always late for everthing. Do you know how hard it is to leave in the morning when you have an adorable, big blue eyed 11 month old holding on to your leg? This child waves good by to his parents with a big smile on his face in the morning. When I try to leave, he cries his little heart out. Drives me crazy, makes me want to quit my job and be a stay at home grandma. Weekend is here, no radiation for 2 days.

Anyone getting a rash yet? I will have my 13th treatment today and this morning I noticed a slight rash forming. It's not itchy yet but I want to take care of it before it gets to that point. I'm using Miaderm and I guess I haven't been getting it high enough. I am going to ask my rad tech today just how much of an area is getting zapped so I can be sure to cover it. I tried the Aquaphor a couple of times but I just can't stand it. I feel like a greased pig when I have it on. I don't have a problem with the Miaderm or the aloe though.
I can't believe I'm already a third of the way through this. Not that I'm counting or anything.
The drive to and from the center is the worst part but I try to make use of being out and about to run errands or shop so when I get home I can take off my bra for the day. I don't know if I'm tired from the rads or just the driving and trying to keep up with things around the house. I think I'm losing the battle on the housework though. I'm going to try and catch up on some of that this weekend. My dogs are shedding and I haven't vacuumed in a month. Can't believe I'm admitting that! I'm really not obsessive about cleaning but no one else around here is so it's left up to me. I wish I could train the dogs to push the vacuum cleaner but all they want to do it herd the darn thing. LOL
-
I had my 5th treatment today. Only 28 to go. lol Don't worry mamadog. I have two dogs and two cats and there is hair everywhere. Some things are just not that important. Have a good weekend.
-
I had #8 today. I have been pink since day 2 but my PS says I look really good so that is great! Turns out I may be able to get reconstruction a lot earlier than I thought!!! I am so excited about that!
2 days off now so enjoy it everyone!!
-
Two weeks done (10 treatments). So far I have not turned pink. No fooling myself as I am sure it will catch up with me.

-
I am just starting to turn pink. Dr had mentioned giving me a cream, and I forgot to ask him about that when I met with him yesterday. My right arm is feeling a bit tight, not sure what that is. Karebear76-sounds like you got some good news. So happy for you.
-
suebak: The tightness is part of the rads. It tightens your skin. Try to do some stretches, it helps a little. If you can get some vit E and avacado cream that is what I am using and my PS says it looks good! It will keep the skin soft.
-
Suebak: the cream they gave me was Xclair - they just keep giving me samples because it is a prescription.. It is awesome.. I am the same color pink as i was on day 4 and today is #14/28
BUT....when it rains it pours.... woke up with major pain in my right arm and it hurt so bad during treatment I started crying... come to find out that it looks like tendonitis... they put me on Aleve and told me to have someone drive me on monday incase they need to give me pain meds... Could this be caused from them radiating my lymphnodes under my arm??
Ok.... I will get through this, but at the moment I'm not a happy camper.
-
I am glad that it is Friday. This was my first whole week of treatments and I sure found it tiring. My times have been all over the place, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Gma Foley - hope your arm feels better over the weekend. Good luck to momoftwo and Melanie on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone.
-
5 days done. Feels great. I'm already turning pink and this worries me a little, but I'll just keep my fingers crossed. I've been using Aquaphor 3-4 times a day and added Miaderm today. I don't think I can do much more. Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for being there!
-
Mammalou - I was pink 4 days into it and I'm still the same color no worse than on day 4 and I'm 14/28 today - they Miaderm will help I suspect - I have Xclair cream the doc gave me... You will be fine
. Just keep the creams and aquaphor on...
-
Also finished 5 days. I'm using Radiagel. I talk it with me and as soon as I'm done, before putting my clothes back on, I use it. So far I'm a little pink and kind of sore but nothing I can't stand. Have a good weekend all. Prepare for next week.
-
Hi Emily and everyone: I had my prep session last week and start treatment on June 23rd using the breath hold technique. Five weeks -- last treatment is Aug. 10. I am a little worried about hitting my mark when treatments start in earnest, but glad that my heart will be less of a target. Treatment at Geisinger in cental PA. I should be on the road at this time of the year and finding it hard to accept being leashed to the radiation department, but I know it's all helping me, so I will go in there and hold my breath and get through the next 5 weeks. This is my first post, but this website has been a remarkable website since early April when I was diagnosed. Thanks to you all who post their experiences!

Hey ladies after my 8 boosts I am cherry red on the spot where the tumor was.......that was the purpose of the boosts.................but it doesn't hurt, not at all.............I was pink throughout the whole treatment of 36, and hardly got much worse................wore a bra the entire time, and never had to go without one..........Still using the Aquaphor, and Aloe at times, but I really don't have to..........just doing it to preserve the skin............not pretty to look at, but then "who do I have to impress".............its just me..................I must say though, I am very fatigued at times.........not all the time, but all of a sudden it hits you...............but I can handle that too.......................I better.........I have my 2 grandchildren beginning Monday for 3 days a week.........been doing this since they were born.....for my daughter...one is nows 12, and the other 10. Fantastic kids, so its not a problem...............just have to get up early to be at her house by 6:30, but they will be sleeping till at least8 to 10, so I can doze off again if I have too when I get there.............just make a little breakfast, and lunch........that is it...............and play some games if they want too...............I'll do fine I'm sure.....hugs ladies.
-
Hi ladies,
I had treatment #7 of 30 today....first full week for me too very tired but think that is from working too many hours and not sleeping enough....1:10am should be sleeping now in fact.
Skin holding up am using a steroid cream in the morning as a preventative and eurcerin at night.
Found soft cup bra but not sure how comfortable it will be as things progress.
I agree the driving back and forth is probably a big part of the fatigue. But the staff is wonderful and I am getting into the routine.....
Nice to meet all of you.

Hi, Mapping, simulation all done. Starting rads tomorrow morning. I havn't been happy with the lack of response from this center. When the co-ordinator asked if I had any trouble sleeping, I said, yes, now I was. She said to take a yoga class. I said I already do yoga 3 times a week. Her response was "you'll be fine". Why ask? Also, every time I have called with questions, or concerns, a call back is promised. One came 2 days after the call. No other call backs. I feel like they don't really give a damm. Makes me all the more fearful
-
Wow, wish you were here Teriber...............I had a wonderful team of Dr.s and support people throughout this whole thing.......My Cancer Center was fantastic...............Diagnosed on 2/15/11, and have already completed Rads, and its June, and finished last week................Have mild LE, and that is already been taken care of, and doing great..........................For me everything moved very fast, and no one drug their heels...................Great facility in Pa..............Return phone calls came the same day I made them.................appts. right away, and never was rushed, no broken machines or delays with Rads, just what I needed to happen considering I was "nuts" at the dignosis time.............they put me at ease with their great care.
-
Anyone have any feelings about male techs?
-
I'm getting used to sharing my body with so many doctors and nurses that male techs don't bother me too much. Where are you being treated that you are unhappy with. I'm in No Cal too.
-
Teriber: I had some extra anxiety issues more with the placement of my arms that brought back a traumatic experience from my childhood...but the male techs were never a problem... Our center in our little town is awesome.. a (lady) nurse accompanies me with all the rad treatments because of my extra trauma and last week I was able to talk to the physician assistant and the doctor on any day I was having issues... infact, Friday I told myself I was fine - and the nurse made me see the doctor anyway (ended up somehow, I have tendonitis in my arm) - I kept on saying "I'm sorry" and they kept on saying "no saying your sorry, we are here to help you in anyway you need" - Also have a nutritionist that tells you what you need to eat during the healing process and a counselor available to me any time I need to talk... Every person that goes through this, should be treated this way and I commend my Cancer Center here in Roseburg, Oregon!!!
-
GmaFoley: That is so nice to have a team to help you through this. That made me want to cry. God sends special people in our lives to take care of us when we have troubles.
-
I start # 1 tomorrow.
-
Had 1 male tech............gorgeous, blue eyes, black hair, around 27..........I have gransons his age..............all the rest were female...........wonderful, and Mark was so kind, and never made me feel out of place or embarrassed.............he was wonderful................Best team of techs anywhere.............I actually miss them, now that I'm done..........Hugs and kisses all around the day I was done.................I got to ring the bell...........................
-
Brenda: you are right! God is very good to me, that's why I know this is happening for a reason...I have already felt my heart change with more compassion for the ill...
June Rad Ladies: WE CAN DO THIS!!!! ONE STEP AND ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!
Don't forget God IS with us through this, holding our hand all the way!!!
-
Amen GmaFoley!!! I know that God is carrying me through this trial and will bring me out on the other side stronger and better!!
-
I have an appointment/simulation with my RO tomorrow and will be beginning rads soon. Congratulations to those of you already finished or underway!
