Lung mets question...awaiting CT.

Options

Hi Girls

Can anyone tell me if their lung mets presented with intermittent shortness of breath and clear normal xray?  Some days my SOB is worst than others, sometimes even small exertion like just switching the TV on or bending over can make me SOB.

Also is you SOB worst with certain weather conditions?

Many thanks

Nikki x

I was diagnosed with lung mets in April.  In retrospect I had some SOB, some with exertion and sometimes worse when the air quality was bad.  I have allergies/asthma/anxiety, so I assumed it was just that.  Until I got a PET scan to diagnosis a lump found in my axilliary nodes.  Turns out it was Lung Mets.  Good luck to you.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will turn out well. Hope this helps!

Nikki, I was dx with mets to lung from the start. I had SOB but I have asthma and my hbg was critically low so I couldn't tell what the SOB was from specifically. I hope your CT is clear.

    Thanks girls,

I have asthma too, but have taken my peak flow when my breathing is particularly bad and it the same as always, indicating I guess that it's not asthma related....I also have chest pain on deep inhalation.

Reesie,  my hbg was OK, but my iron count was low at the beginning of April, so I have been on iron tablets for nearly 3 months now, ...so again can't put it down to that either!  Were you DX'd by CT?  Was your low hgb due to the mets?

My chest Xray and blood tests were clear at the beginning of May....so fingers crossed...

Nikki my hgb was 4 when I was dx'd. I had heavy periods but not enough for that low (all the medical personal were shocked that I was still conscious much less living a normal life).

Best we can figure was that it was a gradual drop over years due to the unknown spreading cancer and my body adjusted to the lower level.

Chest pain on deep inhalation sounds more like fluid. Maybe you just have an infection.

    Thanks so much Reesie

Gosh your hbg was incredibly low!  You must be one very strong  lady!

My doc says I am testing negative for infection  although this pain started around when I had pneumonia at Xmas..!!??   I just hope the CT will get the bottom of it!

Sending you big love Reesie - my thoughts and prayers are with you...

Thanks Nikki.  Maybe you still have fluid but no infection?

And I'm doing great now (my hbg is hanging around 9.6 after lots of transfusions - haven't needed one since March though).

After 6 months of chemo I now have no mets on my lungs and left breast, the right pleural effusion is resolved, the left is stable, the liver mets are less than 1/2 their original size, and the bones are healing. So I may not be NED (and with the bone mets never really will be) but I'm damn close.

And I just met with my BS to set up a BMX and with my gyn for an ooph (which might even get to be done at the same time, woohoo) and while I was there she told me she had to hug me because she was so excited at how well I've responded to treatment.
