CONGRATULATONS DUCKY AND LESLEYE!!!
THOSE who are going on boost, just my little opinion, my RO switched me to boosts when my nipple felt like it was going to fall off!, i thought the boost were so much better than the whole breast treament! the treatment was quicker and i did not feel as tired. Today i started back to whole breast, 9 more to go. finally in single digits. Feels like i have been doing this for 6 months!!!
Tinaj-the only thing i swear helps with the underboob rash itchy thing for me has been the Lanacane spray! especially if you are laying down and let things air out for a while after you spray it on. i noticed my skin under there is looking gray-ish , so i foresee it not feeling so good now and its starting to peel. SUPER!! only 9 more. we can do this!!!
-
Congratulations Duckyb!!!
I feel grateful to have had you along on this journey with me. You've lifted my spirits on many occasions.
I finished up today too, albeit with far less fanfare than the celebration up in PA. I'm feeling light-hearted and very blessed. I too am thankful for the support of each of you on this May 2011 thread. I don't know how I would have gotten through the past couple of months without your support and friendship. You were my sanity lifeline.
-
YEA GABBYCAL!!!! WAY TO GO!!!!! enjoy a non-rad rest of the week!!!
-
Congratulations to everyone who is finished! Can't wait to join you!!!!
-
i got that underboob itchy feeling too. mine feels like the skin is going to rip open at any time!
-
You are welcome carberry! now all I need is the energy to make one LOL!
-
CONGRATULATIONS GABBYCAL and DUCKY! I remain completely jealous of those who are finishing!
22/30...8 more to go! I totally hit a wall today. I had to work from home and once I finished a 7a conference call and sent and email to the team to let 'em know what was up....I went to bed and slept another 3 hours. It was all I could do to drag myself to rads and then meet some work friends at a restaurant a mile from my house for a dinner that was planned 60 days in advance because of everyone's schedule issues. That 1.5 hours of socializing kicked my ass again. Ugh. Not sure I'm going to make it thorugh without taking some time off, dangit.
-
Yeah Ducky and Leslee!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take it easy this week, you so deserve it!
-
Was mowing lawn after rads yest. on a riding mower and we have 3 acres so about a 3 hour mow and was finding myself falling alseep on the tractor. Had to quit and go lay down...actuallly felt kinda nauseaous from being in the sun. Then met friends for drinks and snacks and could not bear to look at the snacks still nauseaous, drank gingerale. What the heck? I get Herceptin today so sure that isnt gonna help things. I know I need to rest, but then I cant sleep at night even with help from my medication friends, so trying to stay busy to tire myself out.
-
TonLee: I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets sleepy after taking Herceptin. Usually I would blame it on premeds but there aren't any with Herceptin and I can't keep my eyes open later in the day that I get it.
Got it yesterday from 11:15 til 12:45 and by about 5:00 I was down for the count until I went to bed at 9:00. Now I get a three week break from everything until my next Herceptin. Since I just finished rads on Monday, I haven't had a break and I'm so glad to finally get one. Of course that's not including the stuff I have for the kids (3 appts just for today), but I'm still happy!
-
GRRR!! My machine is down...won't know if it'll be up today at all until later this morning....I WANT TO BE DONE!
Achpurple, I refused all the premeds (except the steroid) during chemo because I didn't like how it stole the entire day from me by making me sleepy, and I was taking Herceptin every week and it didn't seem as bad...once I went to once every 3 weeks. WHOA...I can feel my heart trying to fight it off....it slows and I just pass out...Not literally...but almost...lol.

Thanks ladies for all your thoughts.................I am sitting here at my computer, with my favorite country station on, and feeling a little melancholey, and the song Remember When came on.........I remember through this whole ordeal I would hear that song and think of my husband who died nearly 20 years ago, and I would cry outloud, just wishing I had him here for support while going through this..............He was so young when he died.............57, from Pancreatic cancer, and I remember all the times we shared just holding each other and wishing we could stay like that forever......................It was not to be...........he finally lost the battle............I guess this emotional roller coaster will go on for a little while. I will allow myself some "down days", but will insist on having more good ones then bad..................
Don't get discouraged ladies............just remember this is not a way of life for you when it comes to Rads.............soon it will be over..............I too thought "oh my God" when I started, but soon days went into weeks, and one day the weeks were done......................keep the faith, and know that if "Ducky" did it, anyone can .............................I bitched a lot, but I did it..............hugs -
Hey Ladies, I'm just really down in the dumps today..feel if anyone talks to me I'm gonna start crying... Is this part of the rad tiredness???? I do get cranky if I'm tired....can't seem to sleep - after rads yesterday I was getting alot of nerve pain in my scar - took a tylenol with codiene so I could get to sleep... but was up at the crack of dawn on my day off :P. Help someone - I don't like to feel this way..
-
GmaFoley - You know the hardest days for me during rads were the week-ends. During the week, I was busier than usual fitting rads into the day (after day, after day, after day). I anxiously anticipated the week-ends. But that's when I'd get down in the dumps and the crying started. Too much time to think. You do need some time to embrace your feelings to get out of the funk, but I agree you don't want to give up your whole day off to that.
How's the weather? If it's a good day is there something you enjoy you can do outside? If all else fails, I always default to anything that gets me out and moving around. That said, I had days when I wanted to go out for a walk, but felt like if I ran into any neighbor who innocently struck up a conversation, I'd break out into tears. On one of those days, I went to the gym to workout, but came back home because I broke down into uncontrollable tears in the locker room.
So, my friend, my advice is to first accept that what you're feeling is normal. Then, find something simple you can do that makes you happy. (For me, this would involve getting out of the house.)
-
Thanks Gabby : LOL now I'm crying while playing my favorite game - toontown. It looks like rain is coming again but sitting in the sunroom watching the clouds go by with my doggy sleeping at my feet .. maybe find somewhere to go for a walk before rads - doctor day today too - not a day to be crying - they will want to give me another pill
. -
Congratulations GabbyCal! Tomorrow is my last day...woohoo!
I am scheduled for reconstructive surgery in August, but have decided to postpone this and just enjoy being done for now. I have been going through this since last August when I had my diagnostic mammogram. I just want of period of time to feel like I have my life back. Last night we even started making plans for a cruise in September to celebrate. I plan to tell no one on the cruise ship about this past year, just so tired of being a "patient"! -
Gmafoley~ It's the rad fatigue messing with your head...it did with me! One week after rads I feel soooo much more like myself and not so tired, I was tired to the point of not caring about much...
-
Maggie - that is awesome! enjoy that cruise for me too! wish we were in better shape financially to do that but we aren't so please come back and tell us about your wonderful cruise

-
Machine was back up this afternoon and I was able to swing by and get in and out in 15 minutes!
FIVE MORE!
-
great news tonlee
-
Gma...................your gonna have those days............mine came late in Rads..............the other day I was crying for no damn reason.........guess I was having my own little Pity Party...............just let it happen, and w;hen its over ..............move on..............not much else you can do...................its normal, and sometimes a good cry helps too.......................of course if I turned off the damn "country station" that might help.........................actually I miss my Rad techs..............they were so wonderful.................I think now I'm crying sometimes cause I don't want to take the "Femara"................scared of the SE............but life goes on, and I have to at least give it a try......................hugs
-
Congrats to all who are finished!!
I only had 3 left, but my skin was so far gone Monday they gave me this week off. They told me to expect it to get worse this week and it has. It is only under my arm. Turned cooked hamburger gray, then the blistering started. Where the cancer was is barely red. I am going to refuse the last 3. So I guess I am done too, but I don't really feel like celebrating.
I had shingles during chemo and they wouldn't let me sit in the waiting rooms for fear I would contaminate other cancer patients with chicken pox. I even had to get my chemo in an isolation room.
-
FMB,
Wow. I'm so sorry you've had such a hard time.
I've read about the grey skin...ouch.
I'm turning red, and if it gets worse than I'll likely blister next week...
I refused boosts. They just don't make sense in my case.
-
Ducky: I suspect being I'm postmenopausal, they will try to give me the same med - there are a couple of others - Have you done the research on them??? Just curious because I don't see my MO until I'm done with rads and he hasn't discussed what he is planning to put me on..
-
Congratulations to all you May gals out there that are finished or finishing up this week. I'm so jealous! I completed #17 of 33 today. I'm holding up pretty well. My armpit feels it the worst, but I don't have any visible skin issues. The muscles on that side feel tight and spasm frequently. It's almost the exact same sensations I had after the BMX in December.
I met a gentleman in the elevator on the way to tx yesterday. He is also battling BC
I can only hope has a good support system like BCO.My summer vacation officially starts on Monday!!! Working extra days in the summer is the part I like least about being a principal. I can't wait to spend the days with my kiddos!

ForMyBoys, so sorry about the "cooked gray hamburger skin"! OUCH!! Not to mention being isolated during chemo! I know that you can't give shingles to someone else, but can give chicken pox to those who have not had it. When I was in chemo, practically everyone there was older than I am (and I am not that young). There weren't any children around, but I suppose that could be an issue if there were. How long did they keep you isolated?
I am seeing my PCP on Tuesday to see if I am still contagious. Because I had the shot a few years ago, I got a very mild case, but it was still a shock to hear that diagnosis.
GmaFoley, I'm so sorry that you are feeling down. Maybe a good laugh-out-loud movie is in order.I found that when I was so tearful during chemo (4 months of crying at the drop of a hat) I became addicted to the Real Housewives of New Jersey. I am not proud of my taste in trashy tv, L
but it sure took my mind off of feeling sad when I watched those women acting like ******s. Very therapeutic. Thankfully, I have kicked the habit. -
gma..............yes have checked it till I'm sick of reading about it ..............It sucks......they all have SE, and the MO's dish those f/n things out like they are candy..................I am going to get an estrogen level done before I take the shit...............,Really fed up...........rads were a cake walk for me................I don't need to be down and out with hot flashes, and osteoporosois.............just want to live what years I have left with normal old age ailments..............no added bonus's from another medicine...............It is calling my name from the countertop..................thank heavens I have a hearing problem. ........haha
-
It's almost 2 o'clock and I'm still up with raging pain in my back, knees, legs and feet. And the onc who is subbing for my vacationing onc still says it has nothing to do with the rads Aaarrrrgghh!
-
I am sorry Rohanna! i have found that they really never want to say that ANYTHING is related to rads. i get achey also and headaches, neither which they say is related to rads. i never get regular head aches and typically don't take tylenol or advil . of which i do both now almost every day! So not looking forward to taking the tamoxifen!!!
Its the end of week #5 for alot of us!!! i have 7 more after today. Can't wait! Looking forward to a nice weekend!
-
So had my herceptin yesterday and now I am sick as a dog. Headache, nausea and the big D, up all night. Idont usually respond to the herceptin this way, usually just a headache. Thinking of cancelling rads, but want to be done. I have an hr. drive each way, guess i better take a bucket. Took some compazine and lomotil, ugg feels like chemo all over again! Thank goodness its FRIDAY!
