How much time between IBC diagnosis and start of chemo?

Hello again,

I was wondering what the average time was between IBC diagnosis and start of chemo.  My sister's core biopsy was 6/1.  She was given IBC diagnosis 6/6.  She had MRIs, Pet Scan on 6/8 & 6/9, had appt with onc on 6/10 who told her about mets and also that hormone receptor results were still not in.  This week she had her brain MRI & the first shot of zometa, which has exacerbated her hip pain.  Next Tues she will finally see the ortho onc.  They could not get her in sooner because he is not in the office until then.  Is this time table reasonable?  Thank you in advance for your replies.

ps.  As I was typing this, my sister called to say she is HER2 + and no mets to the brain! Some good news!

sorry to see that your sister has joined us here. I was dx w/ IBC in 2008 everything went so fast..test, chemo it all started in no time at all. Zometa is a infusion not a shot so I am not sure what she did received. Zometa is a bone strengthener though. I just got done having surgery on my hip/leg and I was not able to start my chemo until the surgery was taken care of. I am in pain from the surgery but not the extent that the pain was. I was on so much pain meds nothing was hitting not even the morphine. I hope everything turns out for her. IBC is serious and aggressive and I am glad they are acting fast upon it. keep me posted or even better maybe your sister will join. Blessings to you.

For me it was 17 days from DX to starting Chemo.  I saw my PA on Thursday morning within about 2 hrs I was having a Mammo followed by sono and biopsy.  Next morning the Dr called me with the results - positive.  Monday noonish I saw the surgeon.  Wednesday I saw the rads Dr (there was a goof in scheduling should have been Chemo) and the next day I saw Chemo Dr.  Lots of tests and scans followed and a biopsy of an area along my jaw that had showed 'hot' on the PET scan (no problem there).  port was put in on 16th day after DX and started A/C the next day.
