I can't get my sons to eat enough fresh fruits and veggies.

Juicing is not something I want to do.

So I'm researching these "whole food" capsules...has anyone tried them or given them to kids?  If so, what is your experience?

Thanks!

Tonya

You can read about it here and let me know what you think (as I have no experience with "non-vitamin" supplements.)

Personally, I think it would be important to help your sons develop healthy eating habits rather than trying to find a pill to "fix" the problem.  Generally, if you offer children a wide variety of foods, they will eventually eat a balanced diet.  Keep offering different fruits and veggies, and if they prefer raw rather than cooked, then that's just fine.  My kids always preferred raw carrots to cooked, my grandkids will eat raw green beans but shun the cooked ones.  I'm not sure there is any one fruit or veggie that all my grandkids eat so my daughter just puts a plate of cut up peppers, cukes, grape tomatoes, beand and/or various fruit on the table.  The kids have to eat the number of pieces of their age...lol.  But it works!

Developing healthy eating habits at a young age will help prevent weight problems along with diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.

Don't give up on them yet.  Just make it a matter of fact.

    Michelle

I am a teacher and a mom to a 12 year old who gases seizures, add, and anxiety. So I am always researching whole food supplements. My dad' oncologist recommended juice plus to him as he was getting chemotherapy. A lot of the cancer patients took juice plus. I hadn't started It quite so fast. I did all the research and thought I would try it. It is the BEST thing that has happened to my family. My kids don't get cold or asthma like they used to. My son had perfect attendance the year he started to take it. Man made vitamins are artificially made therefor your body does not absorb them. Juice plus contains only glutin free fruits and vegetables. That is why our body absorbs the fruits and vegetables juice plus.

I had a child pass away last year and I went back through the research again. I am impressed with juice plus. An adult can order it and they get a child free. Well worth the money.

Check out www.kwilliamsjuiceplus.com email me any questions. They come in capsules and pills.3

I have a dear friend who's been using juice plus for 18 years, which I think she said was when it first came out.  She sent me some samples and I have some literature that I haven't read yet.  So far I've sampled a chewable purple 'berry' flavored something, and it was yummy.

I just looked at the ingredients for the orchard blend chewables and the garden blend chewables, and so far I'm thrilled by what I DIDN'T find on the list -- magnesium stearate.  I became aware of this ingredient earlier this year, and to my dismay, it's in nearly every supplement I've been taking.  That, combined with my quest to find supplements for my mom that are small enough for her to physically swallow, has made me very picky about my supplements.  I'll be splitting the chewable samples with my mom in the next few days, and I'll report back on how they taste and if they pass the 'mom' test.  :)

editing to add a link to an article about magnesium stearate and why it's undesireable:

I can send you some samples to see if you would like the chewables or capsules. If an adult orders one child is free. It is better to eat the real thing. But who eats 12 servings of fruits and vegetables a day especially kale greens beets. Plus we cook some of the nutrients out of our vegetables. Juice plus bridges the gap!!!

My dentist, pediatrician, and general doc all take them and do not sell them. That impresses me:)

    LuvRVing,

Great advice but it's a bit late for my family.  My oldest is 15 and HATES veggies.  In fact, once he was big enough to realize I couldn't "make" him eat veggies, he refused to consume them.  He will eat corn (occasionally) and salad (I always shred baby spinach and use it as lettuce..lol), carrots very seldom, and forget anything else...I've tried it all, with dip, without, disguised in another dish etc.

My husband refuses to eat veggies...period.  He also doesn't like garlic or onions!  See how hard preparing a single meal can be (and how TASTELESS) in my house?

I don't have time to hide 10+ servings of fresh fruit and veggies a day...and frankly I don't want to.

Since I have to deal with the reality of my life, and not how I'd like it to be, heh, I need something to bridge the gap..thus I started looking into Juice plus.

    Boyd,

Thanks for offering to send samples, but I'd prefer to research and buy them on my own.

    Althea,

Thanks!  I'd appreciate your feedback!!  I think I'm going to order some for my husband at least....though I can barely get him to take a multi-vitamin.

    I'll read the article!

    Thanks.

The last two years, I have a friend who sends me juice plus, ever since I was first dx with cancer. I haven't taken them consistently as I'm taking so many other supplements that sometimes I make a choice what not to take. Because I take so many different kinds of supplements, I'm not sure what is doing what.

You can take the capsule a part and put the juice plus powder into a smoothie, veggie dish, potatoes or milk. Not noticable.

Ton Lee, I'll send you a new whole bottle of jus plus... the vegetable and fruit capsule. I have lots of the bottles :) Just pm me if you would like to try them for free. I do not sell juice plus.

I wanted to give an update, in case someone searches this topic later.

I started Juice Plus (fruit and veggie) last weekend.

Today I finished my 4th week of rads.  According to my RO I am taking the most radiation he can give me.

The 3rd week was exhausting.  By Friday (last week)  I could barely stay awake past 9pm.

I don't know if it is coincidence, but....I started the Juice Plus last weekend, and Monday and Tuesday I was normal, like the weeks before...Weds came and I was completely wiped out.  I figured Thurs and Fri were going to be really bad since radiation is cumulative, and in the previous weeks those are the days I really "felt" it.

    Except they weren't!!

The only difference is the Juice Plus, but it's like I have limitless energy.  Weds I was too tired to lift weights at the gym.  But Thursday I went to lift, came home and cleaned the house.  Today I worked out, went to rads, came home and cleaned out the garage for 5 hours....(and Friday is usually the most exhausting day).

Of course this is not a scientific study...lol, but if you're considering Juice Plus, I would recommend trying it...and if you do, let me know!!

TonLee~ is this something that you take every day?  I'm looking for something to take with me when I go down to the States to work as the food provided (and location) leave a lot of nutrition to be desired.  Would like to at least have a little something to help me out when I can't eat my usual diet......

    Thanks!

I had been taking JP for YEARS when I was dx'd with brCA.  Thanks to JP and my general diet and living habits, I had my antioxidant levels tested a couple years before dx and was told that I had the highest antioxidant level out of about 250+ people tested, and by far.  That's one of the many reasons I was so angry to have been dx'd... when I called my dad to tell him about the dx, he swore, then burst out with, "But that's impossible!  Your antioxidant levels are through the roof!"  Yeah, well.

So, IMO, JP is no miracle supplement... but it IS a good one.  Naturopaths approve of it, I've found.  When I went to a new naturopath for help with a chronic respiratory problem, she asked to see what supplements I'd been taking, and her face was full of skepticism when I handed over the JP bottles...then she read the back and her eyebrows raised and she said, "Double the dose."

I agree Raili, I've read a lot since posting this...and the science behind it is pretty weak...and it doesn't have a lot of vitamins that we need...so it is NOT a substitute for good eating....I'm going to try it for a few months, see if it works for me......filling the gaps in my diet.
