I remember when getting a color TV was a big deal
-
Me too Kate, I remember watching the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights in color!
When we got the new color TV, the old B&W TV went to the basement 'rec room' and we played PONG on it.
Also I remember getting 3 channels: CBS, NBC & ABC, and the youngest child was the remote control. Did we even have PBS 40+ years ago? :-) And the stuff you'd have to do with the 'rabbit ears' antenna to get reception sometimes. OK some modern things are good LOL!
-
The youngest child was the remote control, hilarious and so true. Yep, did you have aluminum foil on the rabbit ears on your TV too?
I could only watch Love Boat when my Dad was working Saturday nights. Just hearing that theme song come on would make him grit his teeth. I liked that show. Also Fantasy Island that followed it "The plane, the plane"
-
How about Lost In Space, Brady Bunch and Partridge Family?
-
Oh yeah, David Cassidy
-
When I was in my teens, my heart throb was Davey Jones of the Monkees.
-
I still only have 3 channels BAdger and apparently willlose those at the end of August when everything becomes digital....guess I will have to make a decisin then....Iloved Hogans Heroes too.... mom would let us watch tv a couple of nights during dinner and Gilligan's island....
-
Nostalgia - What a great thing. Okay, thought of some more shows - Ed Sullivan - remember when the Beatles made their American debut on his show and how about Red Skelton, Welcome Back Kotter, Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Burnett. There was always something good to watch on TV. Now you almost have to have either cable or satellite TV to watch anything decent.
-
Yes!!!! The Ed Sullivan show...a REALLY BIG SHOW!!! My momloved that man! My sister loved all things Elvis and the black and white movies. and yes...the youngest siser (me) was the remote control. Wasn't a huge fan of TV except as an excuse to cuddle on the couch...some things never change.
-
Heck - even the cartoons made more sense then. Casper the Friendly Ghost, Gumby, Rocky & Bullwinkle.
More TV shows - All In The Family, Sanford & Son and how could I forget - my all time favorite show MASH. I think I saw ever episode and do watch the reruns whenever I get a chance.
-
Every once in awhile we'd be allowed to stay up and watch Mod Squad
-
And even earlier, the original Mickey Mouse Club. Gunsmoke, Ozzie & Harriet and the variety specials. I especially remember a Harry Belefonte special when I was in junior high. As I think back I'm surprised the censors allowed his dance. Sexy! Dad and I were watching, don't remember where Mom and brother were, Mom wouldn't have let me watch. I was ironing a white shirt for my father to wear the next day. I was so mesmerized that I froze in place and burned a big hole in the middle of the back. Dad just watched, grinning and wore the shirt to work---he never took off his suit jacket at work. When the dance was over Dad said "My little girl is growing up."
-
Love that story Chabba!!!
-
Aww chabba, love that story. Harry Belefonte ooh yeah, I could burn a shirt watching him too!
-
Leave It To Beaver, Happy Days, Dukes of Hazzard, Mr. Belvedere, Facts of Life, Mr Ed, Petticoat Junction.
-
-
Chabba - What is with the face? I can't believe how old I make myself sound remembering all these shows. Some I even watched in black & white
-
Do you all realize we have almost a page of stuff to keep far, far from the bonfire. Now that's nice and feel good---just in a different way than is normal on this thread. glad I stopped by today when I did.
-
Beverly Hillbillies!!!!
-
Chabba - And that is wonderful. We don't always have to be tossing things in. We can enjoy the warnth of the fire and take a walk down memory lane. I am sooo glad you stopped by today.
-
Good point Chabba....keep these things far away from the fire on a shelf somewhere to be dusted off. Gee ladies....we were kids when tv was invented!!! isn't that something! When I say that to the twenty-somethings I currently work with , they look at me pretty blankly....what about the moon walk?!That was pretty cool to see. Anyone else skip school that day?!?!?
-
I grew up with Harry Belafonte's music all the time! My mother loved his music and played his records a lot, and as a result I'm a big fan, too.

I remember falling asleep on the living room floor then waking up for the moon walk. Yeah, sitting around a roasting smores on the bonfire while sharing good memories is fun too
-
Watch Bugs Bunny or Bullwinkle sometime now as an adult - loaded with inside jokes.
Loved "Fractured Fairy Tales" at the end. Mister Peabody and his boy Sherman. Frostbite Falls, Minnesota. Whatsamatter U.
I don't spend much time watching TV, maybe the food network, so am here a lot. :-)
-
Loved Tom and Jerry, Mister Peabody and Sherman were awesome, Borris and Bullwinkle, Flintstones, Yogi the Bear.
How about comics, have to admit to loving the Fantastic Four, Spiderman, in addition to the Archies

kmmd - Aw! The smores - yummy!
-
Loved Gumby. and PeeWee's Playhouse. Penny cartoons (claymation at its best).
On that show were several people who would go on to be famous, for example Cowboy Curtis was Laurence Fishburn and Captain Carl was Phil Hartman.
Anyone like SOAP? I loved it.
-
I liked SOAP!
Picture of the smores will make you hungry
How about movies:
Saturday Night Fever, Star Wars, Officer and a Gentleman, The Way We Were, actually I loved any movie with Barbara Streisand in it
-
I saw "What's Up, Doc" as a new release at Radio City Music Hall. very funny
