tumor markers on FNA?

Options

I was reading about FNA and was surprised to learn FNA cytology has a false negative rate of over 10%.   A recent study suggests that doing tumor markers on the FNA decreases the false negative rate to 5%

Has anyone had tumor markers done on the FNA? KS1

Fine Needle Aspiration.  There are a lot of variables based on technique and skill of the physician performing the FNA.  We do not do tumor markers on FNA's where I work. On core biopsies (bigger needle that takes small tissue samples)  We will sometimes do immunohistochemistry stains on positive biopsies if the type of cancer needs to be determined.  These will stain the proteins in various types of cells.
