Can anyone recommend a bandage?
I'm in my last week of radiation and my skin is so burnt and blistered I can't even wear clothing. I've used a number of different types of creams and regular bandages, but the skin is so burnt I have no way to attach the bandage. I've been told that many radiologists recommend a bandage that is used for burn patients (unfortunately, my radiologists isn't very helpful). Can anyone recommend a bandage to help me through the healing process? Thanks!

I don't know, but I would get thee to a burn center or wound treatment provider at once. Your radiologist should not have left you with this mess, all alone. So go elsewhere.

Sounds so painful! I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but when I had a nasty exposed area during rads the nurses at my cancer center used RadiaDres gel sheets that had been in the refrigerator. Sooooo cool and immediately comforting. First, the area was slathered with aquaphor and then the refrigerated gel sheets were applied. Everything was held in place with a loose surgical bra, using folded up guaze for extra support underneath the "sag" zone.
Hang in there!

nu gel bandages by Johnson and Johnson are also great. They are very expensive so they don't give them out much.

If you already have a prescription creme/ointment from the doc for the blistering, you should be able to cover that with a telfa pad (avail. at a medical supply store, and some drugstores.) but you will need something like the surgical "tube top" to hold it in place, so you don't have to use tape.

diane, i finished rads yesterday and the skin in my armpit area and then some is coming off! it is so painful!!! I developed blisters over the weekend then it popped and the skin started coming off. The exposed skin is a deep pink and raw. My RO gave me a script for silvadene cream. So I put the silvadene on the open blisters and place aquaphor on all the non blistered area. I cover them all with Telfa and cover it with "combines" (that's what they called them) and use a gauzy surgical bra that they provided...

a friend of mine used mini pads

Be sure and use the silvadene. I never thought my burns would heal- that bad esp. under the arms- but they did.
This is a hint for once they get a bit healed and you have to wear a bra out. Go to the fabric store and buy a yard of fleece (very soft material). Cut strips and wear under your bra. You can wash the strip after use or just pitch it and cut another strip. Fleece is not very $$ and the strip will be relatively small.
I was lucky. I could just stay home and only wear a soft, soft teeshirt until it all healed pretty good. Took about 2 weeks to make the turn for me, but I really had bad burns/super fair. Silvadene ruins clothes, so be careful.
I did use the Telfa pads in the begining if I absolutely had to go out and wear a bra. Switched over to the fleece strips once the burns made the turn. good luck I know you think it will never heal, but it will!!

At most chain drug stores they sell a gauze that is treated with vaseline...I cannot recall the name of it, but it is not too expensive and it will not stick to your skin. I would try that then can you wrap an ace bandage around you, tight enough to hold everything in place, but loose enough to not hurt you?

I agree with Shirlann and hope by now you have been able to get to a burn or wound center.
I am waiting for samples of some kind of silicone based technology geared toward fragile fragile skin from a manufacturer called MOLNLYCKE. Their contact tab gives an 800 phone.
Also, I have heard that a manufacturer called REJUVENESS makes a reusable silicone sheet for burns and other severe wounds as well as some kind of non-adhesive tape that somehow still acts like tape to keep dressings in place. I do not know if they offer samples but notice that their site gives graphic before and after photos and intend to contact them at their 800 number.
