HIGH neck tankini

Options

I haven't been on the boards much lately, so if this has been covered, please let me know.  From reading these boards over the years, I know I'm not the only one in this situation.  I had ALOT of breast tissue removed with my mast, resulting in my chest being concave from about an inch below my collar bone.  Finding clothing that works is difficult, but that's another rant......  Finding swimsuits is next to impossible.  I look at mast swimsuits and think "if only...".  Lands End came to my rescue many years ago, and I bought their high neck tankinis in multiples whenever I could.  However, they stopped making them!  My only hope is that if enough of us email them and ask them to bring the high neck tankini back, they might listen.  Even if they're not mast, I'll sew in the pocket.  In desperation, I have looked for high neck one piece suits that could work (although you just can't beat a tankini for coverage and convenience!).  The only one piece suits I found were "racer" type suits, and although the front would work, I just don't have a "racer" type body and the cut of the back just emphasizes the dog ear and the back fat.  So, is anyone in with me for an email campaign to Lands End to bring back the truly high neck tankini?  The back doesn't need to be high, a scoop back or a t-back would work.  Any suggestions for other swimsuits would also be appreciated!

I'm with you, I can't find a thing that hides the pit on my chest. i live in Florida so the quest should be easy, but no!! I'm going to Daytona this weekend so I plan to hit all the surf shops to see what might be out there. I'll let you know what or if I find anything!!

How about a cool looking rash guard? when I was going through rads I bought a small cap sleeved half-zip rash guard from LL Bean to wear with my black bathing suit bottom. I still have it and use it occasionally.

Or could you find a suit you like that is 'highish' and have a seamstress sew in a mesh panel. Not sure where the concavity is. If it was in the middle, that might work.

Edited to add: I was just searching for swim forms and found this site. It has the swimsuit tops separate. There are a few higher necked ones on here and they are on sale.

Best of luck to you in finding a swimsuit that works!

Thanks for the suggestions. I had considered a rash guard, but didn't want a "farmers tan". I checked the website for mastectomy shop, and the tops a still a little low for me. The entire right side of my chest is concave. A mesh insert would still show the indentation. I have a cami bra with the lace on top, and the lace just conforms to my chest. I think a mesh insert would probably do the same. I used to be able to fi d a few sport tops with a high neck and I sewed a bra in, added a pocket, and wore them with Lands End bottoms. Every sport top I see now has a scoop neck! I spend a lot of time in a swim suit, so I need to have a lot of them. The only thing that is saving my butt is that when I find a suit that works for me I buy it in multiple colors when possible, so I have a few that are hanging in there.

Edited to ask what you wore under the rash guard. Did you sew in a bra?

At the time, I had a lumpectomy. Didn't wear anything underneath. I still have it and would probably wear it flat.  But cups could be sewn in easily.

Check some of the Speedo suits on EBAY for pictures.  They have all sorts of back configurations and many high necks - -  just avoid the very high cut legs.

You might want to try swimoutlet.com. They have "racer" types that they call conservative. More  coverage of the back, etc. Yesteryears speedo style. They have some other suits that might work. Not sure what one could add a prosthesis to?

Next time I visit the beach I was planning on wearing a sports bra with bottoms I already have, covered by a slightly too big rash guard. I live in California, 5 min from the beach & it really isn't that warm here, 67F today. I wore a rash guard most of the time before BC. Hopefully this will work.

If I could find a sleeveless rash guard I could wear over a sports bra I would be happy! The frustrating thing is that the Lands End suits were perfect. I just need Lands End to start making them again! I hope I can get some of the women on these boards to email requesting the high neck tankinis again.Tankinis are so much better than a one piece. Have you ever tried using the "head" (bathroom) on a boat wearing a one piece? You are rocking and rolling, peeing, tryin to get the suit back up, and trying to make sure your foob is where it should be! Give me a tankini any day!

Lands End does still make a high neck mastectomy one piece - I just checked. I bought this same suit 3 years ago to cover my port and so I could stuff my mastectomy side while I was having fills. Still have it - I live in AZ and have a pool, so it gets a lot of wear.

I know what you mean about the ease of a tankini - I'm a pretty frequent Lands End customer, so I'll be happy to join your campaign to let them know what we need!

If you're looking for a high-necked tankini, Kohl's has a couple of tops that work well.  They're both halter tops, so they definitely cover the concave area.  Plus they're easy to swim in.  I have a Dana Buchman that crosses in the back, and a Chaps that ties.  If you go down the page, I have a swimsuit thread that has links to these suits.  There's also some higher necked sports type tankini tops that I think could work well. I have a swimming pool, so I'm always on the lookout for something that works for me.

Amoena has a really cute halter-style 1 piece that I would really like if I was skinnier.

Thanks Suemed, I love Lands End.  The high neck tankinis they used to make were the best!  I really hope we can get enough women to email them so they bring them back again!  I looked for the one piece you mentioned, but the only one that would sort of work for me is the flutter kick.  I know this will sound like I'm being too picky, but patterns work so much better for me than solids to hide the unevenness of my chest.  I am open to any and all suggestions, it's just frustrating that Lands End HAD the perfect suit for me and stopped making them.

mthomp, I looked on Kohls web site, and the closest one I found to what I need is the Nike high neck tankini, and I still need it to be about an inch higher, sigh.  I also check amoena and again, nothing is high enough.  Where can I find your swimsuit thread?  Like you, I am always on the lookout for something that works for me.

If you go down the page, there's a thread titled "Swimsuits", and I posted a link to the two tankini tops that I bought.  They definitely come up high enough, as they come up almost to the base of my throat!  It's amazing how much breast tissue there is that high up on your chest.  I'm only an A cup, but the difference is pretty noticeable (at least to me) between the 2 sides.  These tops don't cover my port, but that really doesn't bother me, as it isn't really all that terribly noticeable.

A lot of the mastectomy suits would actually be too low for me as well.  I'm pretty high-breasted, and if I lean forward, the suit can gap enough to see down the front.

Mthomp, I forgot that Ihad seen your thread before. When I looked up the suits, they didn't look like they went up high enough, but from what you described, they would be perfect! The Lands End suits go all theway up to my collar bone, which is higher than I really need, but really allows me to feel confident in it. I am an a cup, and believe me, there is a huge difference between tne two sides of my chest, and you are so right, who knew there was so much breast tissue so far up! I look at mostmast suits and wonder whocan actually wear them.

Cp418 - Thanks for thelinks. There area few that could work for me if I could find them ina size 6. I especially liked theTYR tankini, that would be perfect!

I'm going to lookat the Kohls website agai.

Sorry forthe typos- I'm trying to type with my hand/arm wrapped.

Here's a really cute Amoena halter swimsuit in your size, on sale for $45:

If I didn't have a big old chemo belly, I'd love this suit for myself.  Unfortunately, I now find the tankinis with a skirted bottom work better to cover things up!

Hi all.  I know how difficult finding a great swimsuit can be.  Have you checked out the suits that Amoena makes?  The quality and fashinable designs are great!  Check them out. The Nizza, Broome, Brasilia and Byron Bay are all great high neck tankini styles.  www.amoena.com/us/Products/Swimwear/2011

Thanks for all your suggestions. Unfortunately, I still haven't found anything high enough. I'm going to try the TYR tankini. Even though I always wear a six, according to their size charts I might be able to fit an eight. Dicks has it on sale online, and if it doesn't fit, I can return it to the store. That's one of the things I like about Lands End, if something doesn't work, I can return it to Sears instead of having to mail it back. I'll let you know if it works. I liked the suit at thepinkbra, but I think it would actually hit right at the edge of my "crater". I'm small, and only an a cup, but to me, the indentation on the right side of my chest is huge, very high up, and very noticeable.

Breast surgeons can't tell the difference between breast tissue and fat so they severely take out alot - so even with reconstruction we have the chest divets and dents hyperpigmentation scars but we are here and happy to be shopping !

After buying the Lands End one piece (fits good) and exhausting my search for any other high neck swimwear options I started searching for halter tankini's and found a nice and expensive one:

I love the way this fits: Magicsuit High-Neck Tankini And Swim Brief

Now, that is high enough for me! I'll have to keep it in mind if the TYR doesn't fit. If the TYR does fit, I will be buying it in various colors.

If I were to get the Bloomingdales top, I would get the bottoms from Lands End.

I got thr TYR high neck tankini and it fits! I will wear it to see how well it works, but I have high hopes. If it works well, I'm getting it in another color! One thing I like about it is the pattern distracts from the unevenness of my chest. If anyone is thinking about gettin the TYR, go up a size.

I have been looking at that Tyr tankini too and wondering what you use to hold the prosthesis in. I haven't read anywhere what's on the inside (like a shelf bra?) and whether it would be feasible to sew in a pocket. I am in a weird situation this summer... I was an A cup but after having 2 kids since my mastectomy and having my reconstructive implant pop (my daughter busted it while I was changing her diaper!), I am now carrying around a DDD because I am breastfeeding. The Lands End bathing suits I have used in the past don't really work well anymore because they are too low cut. And the Amoena halter I have as well and you can definitely see there's a difference because the top still doesn't come up high enough. Ugh! I am 34 and grew up at the beach. I really really miss cute swimsuits!

The TYR tankini has sort of a shelf bra with a lining. There are removable cups that I stitched in place. There is a slit on the side where I put my form in. I used a few stitches to keep the form from moving around, no need for a pocket. I use an amoena leisure form. Hope this makes sense, I am very happy with the suit, and again, the bubble print distracts from the unevenness of my chest. If you have a Dicks sporting goods near you, see if youcanget it from Dicks online. That way if it doesn't work for you, you canreturn it to the store. Good luck, I spend a lot of time in thewater and having the right swim suit is very important to me.

I like it so much I got it in another color!

Great! Thanks! I ordered the Tyr and also am trying two suits from Lime Ricki that in theory look like they could work... Fingers crossed!

Also, I do like an Athleta top I got - it's called their Ready to Run top and it has good coverage, but I have an Amoena swim form which is pretty heavy and slides around even though the Athleta top has good support/compression. I ordered a micro bead form, but since I will only be this size while I am breastfeeding from my non-mastectomy side, it's hard to spend a lot of money on this stuff. I also got their sleeveless rash guard, and the thickness and quality seem good. I am eager to find good options so I can chase my 2 year old, hang on to my 4 month old and not have to worry about people noticing my chest!

I found that most swim forms are too heavy, and I'm only an A cup. Also, they are hollow, so don't hug anyone or lie on your stomach or you will get the dreaded "boob fart"! I prefer the amoena leisure form for swimming since it is lighter and cheaper. I hope the micro bead isn't too heavy. I have one that I wear when exercising, but haven't used it to swim in. The Athleta top looks really nice and the Lime Ricki suits look good too. The Athleta top is so my style, I would get it in every color! Those, believe it or not are still too low for me, but I'm glad you found some that work for you! I like finding non mast tankini tops that work.
