Lump after lumpectomy

Options

Hi- can anyone tell me if it is normal to have a hard lump in the same exact spot as a lumpectomy? My mom had a lumpectomy and finished radation 3 months ago and has had a hard lump in the same spot. Could it be scar tissue from the lumpectomy hole and the radiation? The radiologist looked at it just after radation was complete and said it was normal but I have not seen too much posted about this. She has her yearly mamo on the 29th but that feels like a very long time away. Thank you-Jenny

    Hi Jenny,

I had lumpiness in the area of my lumpectomy that was scar tissue, so I'll bet that's the scoop with your mom.  Her mammo on the 29th should confirm that, but I can totally understand how that feels like a long time to wait.  Try not to worry, it is totally normal to have lumpy scar tissue.

    Best wishes, NancyH

Thank you both so much for replying. Was your scar tissue in the same exact spot as your tumor? Do you think cancer can grow that fast? I know it is most common for a reoccurence with in the first two years but does it normally reoccur in the same spot? I cant find much info on that. Anyways, I cant tell you how appreciative I am for your input. Thank you again----Jenny

Hello Jlee, Sorry to hear about your mom. I have the exact same problem at the moment. I've got a hard pea sized lump that has come up on my old lumpectomy scar from nearly 2 years ago. My mammogram last month didn't detect anything so they're sending me for an ultrasound on Monday. Did you ever find out what it was.

    Best wishes,

    Lynette
