Susan, you're right, the reviews don't smell too good, disappointing really, certainly can't afford to buy a machine that doesn't work....but still can't afford the Vitamix, so will just have to keep on juicing for now, I guess.  That little recipe in your previous post sounds delicious, thanks !

Here is what I like about Dr. Oz...

He is making mainstream much of the info I have been researching for several years....things my docs have never heard of....hopefully his audience will do further research on their own and also hopefully they will not just buy cheap supplements from any old company.

I love that he promotes asking for thyroid guards.

I love that he promotes whole fruits and veggies and opposes sugar.

I loved his show on "What the Pharmaceutical Companies Don't Want You To Know"

I love the visuals he puts up...I've learned some things.

I love that he openly discusses natural body processes and pushes people to pay attention to what their bodies are telling them or yelling at them.

I don't agree with everything he says, but he sure gets more right than most docs.

I DVR the show so I can skip things like the 700 lb woman (been done over and over on other shows and Celebrity Fat Club.)  I also speed through any topics that don't interest me or the intros of audience helpers.

I think he is helping our cause because he challenges the established protocol.  He got really feisty about those thyroid guards...He pounced on those guys and said "BINGO" when the one slipped up and said training the personnel to properly use the guards would add one more thing the technicians would have to do.  The man  was protecting the technicians over the needs of the patient/customer.  When the guy said that some women's anatomy would make it so that the guard was in the image causing it to be redone and therefore additional radiation....OZ seemed truly flabergasted that they would prefer everyone radiate their thyroids instead of training the technicians how to assess which people and which views could be taken using the guard.  Seems to me that even if only 2 of your 4 mammogram views could be done with the guard...it would still make sense to get half the radiation instead of worrying about whether the tech has something else to do.

Anyway...While I disagree with some of his stuff because I have researched this so much more than most watching his show......I still think over all he is doing a great service by drawing attention to nutrition and supplements which SHOULD be Conventional Medicine.  Why on earth is food considered Alternative Medicine ???

I've been researching all this stuff for over 20 years and practically non stop for the last two...People like us knew over 10 yrs ago that margerine is not preferable to butter.  Look how long it took the subject of trans fats to hit the mainstream.  I believe Oz is making the turn around time for this kind of info shorter.

Luan, I too am surprised that they continue to use Adryamicin for ER+.  It was known to have high incidence of heart issues when my teenage daughter had it in 1995.  And studies show that FEC is as good as and slightly better than TAC.  Perhaps TAC is the cheaper combo?

I had my mammo recently and asked for a thyroid guard.  And out it came from a drawer. The tech put it on and said...."just to let you know, the radiation beams go away from the body so the thyroid is not affected'.  Okay, I responded. But I still intend to ask for it at each visit!

Luna, BRAVO FOR THE ODE !!

Susan, how long ago was that....?

    Victoria, I too wish.......

Pip, cheaper....??  I'm feeling sick to my stomach  Cry

Painterly, good for you.  Sure, radiation beams only radiate the marked area....why is it that some sisters have developed osteoarthritis from the radiation :

"The pain management Dr explained that during rads they cannot miss our bones and that rads changes the molecular structure of your bone marrow which circulates through out our bodies"

Well, went to get a whole bunch of greenies (not the doggie kind..), fresh parsley, sweet green peppers, chicory, green onions and tried the blender.  It kinda smelled like burning after, so I probably have to cut it up in smaller size.  Added an apple, grapes, some lemon juice, curry powder, loads of black pepper, some horseradish, capers, ginger, garlic, apple cider vinegar for zing zing and cheated with a little V-8 (can't be perfect...), water and it was DELICIOUS, could feel my blood humming !

Luan, I was just pondering.  I have no idea what the costs of each regime are.  There could have been a very good, logical, science based reason for using one and not the other.

Susan, i,m a fruit junkie myself, that,s why had to add some to greenies :)) I,ve seen them, as well as yellow ones, oh and i,ve seen purple potatoes, want to try them too. i bet they pack quite a punch as opposed to plain white ones

Susan, I bought a couple of purple carrots to try, they were fairly tasteless but then they may have been old as no-one seems game to try them.

I also bought purple carrot seeds but can't plant them till our Australian spring in six months or so.  You can buy the seeds online.

Anyone lucky enough to be living in Australia can buy Dr Red's purple carrot juice which is like a wine with concentrated purple carrot juice and white grape juice.  I add a little to fruit juice and it's delicious.  They make a number of high antioxidant, high nutrient drinks.

Luan, I buy my Dr Red in either a health food shop or a large chemist, I can't remamber the name, they store it near the supplements.  They were out of the purple carrot last time I looked but their blackberry drink is very tasty too.  It's expensive but lasts ages as only a little is added to a drink. Most of them contain green tea too.

Susan, I have to agree with you

    Just found this great site:

"We proposed that the additive and synergistic effects of phytochemicals in fruits and vegetables are responsible for these potent antioxidant and anticancer activities and that the benefit of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is attributed to the complex mixture of phytochemicals present in whole foods. This explains why no single antioxidant can replace the combination of natural phytochemicals in fruits and vegetables to achieve the health benefits. The evidence suggests that antioxidants or bioactive compounds are best acquired through whole-food consumption, not from expensive dietary supplements"

Thanks for the comments on the thyroid guard. FWIW, when I first met with my RO I asked him about the risk of dental Xrays and he said to be sure to pull the lead cape up and over your thyroid. (he'd just been to the DDS that day and said he pulled it up as high as he could).

I've been doing the three colors on my plate per meal for about a week now. Thanks for that tip as it makes it easy to remember to get enough veggies and fruit.

Doctor Oz has a very good article in the June 12th issue of the TIME magazine. The whole issue is about the next wave of cancer treatment & he talks about his own cancer scare.
