I loved your story of your dogs. Made me all teary--I have three wonderful dogs right now. One is quite old, 14, and I'm trying to spend as much time with him as possible - as he now sleeps a lot, whines for no reason, etc. He still enjoys his walks though. My second one is 9, she is a foster-failure who has such expressive eyes. When I am stressed she senses it and just looks at me as if to say "It's ok, I'm here for you." My third one is 7 and still full of beans. His antics make me laugh - I still miss the ones I've lost thru the years. They were all very special in their own ways.

This boy is unbelievable....

I have a 7 yr old male Bichon Frise and a 8 yr old female Bichon-Poo. They have always been "mama" dogs but during my treatment they were glued to my side or I should say sides, one on each side. They were warm and soft and life affirming. Now that treatment is over and life is returning to normal they are not always attached to me. They are fun and happy and always glad to see me.

I am heartbroken today. I just had to put my 14 year old catahoula leopard dog to sleep due to a ruptured tumor. He was in shock and in great pain and the surgery had such a small chance of success I decided it was better to let him go
What makes this even harder is, a few months ago I had to put my 9 year old pit bull to sleep due to a horrible muscle-wasting disease. The steroids were no longer working.
Then in February I had the lumpectomy. When it rains it pours-----

srbreastcancersurviv: so sorry to hear about your 14 year old catahoula leopard dog; I had to put Arthur (my dog) to sleep this past January 19; he was 12 and 1/2 and had oral cancer; treatment did not help :O(.
I feel your pain, today and forever. ((((Hugs)))))

Thank you for your kind words. So sorry about Arthur. What breed was he?
I got Cutter from the pound - he was 11 months and had been returned twice----then I discovered why- he destroyed furniture !. Ate my couch down to the springs. He did outgrow it though - and helped me foster puppies from the shelter. He was so caring with them -it was amazing.

sr...survivor I am so sorry for your loss! Our pets are such wonderful companions and it sounds like you have some great memories to reflect on with Cutter.
My Best Friend had an old english that came to stay with me. I had two dogs and 4 cats of my own so my little 2 BR home was pretty crowded. I came home from work that first day and when I walked in the living room I was surprised how roomy it looked...then it dawned on my that half my sectional was upside down and ripped to shreds in the hallway right off the living room. All I could do was laugh (with just a little bit of hysteria in it), my BF was so mad I had to bar her from coming over until she calmed down. When you told the story of Cutter being a destroyer of furniture I was reminded of this story... My BF passed away recently and the circumstances were pretty horrendous. I really needed that memory right now... Thank you!

sr survivor, NbyNature, i'm sorry about your dogs. it is so hard to say goodbye to our furry friends..they really shine out with love and unconditional acceptance!
we have two cats: a Maine coon I call my gorgeous beastie, and a domestic shorthair. the first from the animal shelter as my daughter's Christmas present; the second, an unexpected "gift" from the woods across from our house (she simply tiptoed out of them, meowing, and that was that...)
when i was in the throes of A/C chemo, my Maine coon would not leave my side. He would practically barge in on me when i was huddled away from the world. amazing.

Arthur was a labradoodle... only found that out when he was about 10!!! We had him since he was 3 months old... the best personality in a dog ever... heck... people too! I miss him dearly... have been looking at other dogs from the Shelter... but don't have the courage... first day I went there I just cried... how embarrassing... than I went back 2 more times and brought Arthur's things... well, some of his things.
Let me find a link to something I had started a long time ago; there you will see some of Arthur's pictures and I think my turtles too.
