Unilateral-single prosthesis

Options

Hi all- I can use some help. I had a single mastectomy back in October, with reduction on the other side. While my one side is now a B plus, my prosthesis is so heavy that people can see right down my shirt into my bra to see my incision. The prosthesis (amoebna) seems heavy that it makes a gap. I tried cami's but they make my hot flashes so much worse. I tried sewing in some lace at top but it does the same thing as the bra. I would like to not wear the prosthesis, but was told that would be bad for my posture. Any one have this issue? Any suggestions? I am slowly trying to change my wardrobe to higher cut tops, but I would just like to wear the shirts that I have. Thanks so much.

Lola, you might consider Silique Comfort-Lite which is a three-layer form..cloth on the back, microbeads in the middle, and silicone on the outside.  Comfortable, hugable, and quite a bit lighter than all silicone.  My size 4 weighs about 3 oz, while my silicone size 5 weighs 7-8oz.  Check BreastFree.org, a not for profit site started by our sister Barbara (Erica is her screen name).  She offers all sorts of info and stories from others on these boards.  Good luck!

I'm smaller than you with my form only being only a size 1 and I can't stand it and never wear it.  The shape is odd to me, it's too big and it's a pain so I have taken to wearing really light support sport bras from Lulu Lemon that I love and I feel so much better in (it kind of flattens my remaining boob which I'm totally okay with).  I realize it's not for everyone, but I just thought I'd post it to give another idea.  Best of luck to you!

    Hi Lola,

I have the same issue you are describing and still have not found a solution other than wearing crew necks and higher cut tops.  The pocketed bra with prosthesis is hot, heavy and uncomfortable and I had so much tissue removed that the prosthesis always shows at the top.  I have a lot of scar tissue so the band of the bra hurts my ribs by the end of every day.  I'll post if I come up with a good solution, and hope you will do the same.  Good luck to you.....

I also had uni-mx in Feb. 2010 and I also want to just wear the shirts I have.  Of course with some, there is just no way but most of them I just wear.  In some, you can see that I have had surgery if they slip down just a little.  My thought is that I will do the best I can to keep myself covered but if someone happens to notice my sunken chest, etc., then so be it.  I had surgery.  It is part of my life and I'm not going to spend all day worrying if someone might notice.  I actually don't mind my prosthesis.  It came with a little fabric cover in the box.  The girl who fitted me for my prosthesis said not to even bother with the little cover but I disagree.  It gives another layer of cloth between my prosthesis and I am more comfortable when I use it.  In fact, I went online and ordered several extra of them so I always have some clean ones available.

Faith I would like to get a few more covers as i find they get hot and sticky so quickly especially when I exercise. I tried to sew one, but it came out with ridges on the chest side not comfortable. Where did you get yours from? Thankyou.

hymil --- I can't remember right off hand, but I think I can look and find out for you.  Give me a day or so to look and I'll get back to you.

I haven't forgotten about looking for you hymil, just haven't gotten to it.  I am a teacher and the last week of school is crazy, but I'm done now, so will have time to check.  Sorry!
