Three Years Today!

Today marks the day --- when I was diagnosed 3 years ago my whole life was turned upside down. I was 39, close to turning 40, and it was my first mammogram. At first they thought it was caught early, but each test revealed something more. I am thankful that I got the news gradually and in pieces -- it would have been too much to hear all at once! In the end I was diagnosed Stage 3c (6 axillary nodes and 1 intramammary node). I was terrified. But now I'm here and feeling GREAT. My hair is all back, my reconstruction surgeries hopefully done or close to it, and I have my life back.

These were the posts I longed to see every time I logged on to this site. 3 years out, 4, 5, 6... they made my day. So I'm here to tell the newbies -- this is doable and you will get through it, and get your life back too!

love to you all!

Jackie

Yay Jackie!  You and I were hand and hand back then!  I found the lump on 5/31 - first biopsy on 6/2 - results on 6/5 ....so it was a crappy week 3 years ago - still could tell you what I was wearing each day, wear I went to lunch, every word the doctor said....

Three years later - much better.

Congrats to you and me - see you next year, and the next and the next - until we are too old to type

Thanks to all for your posts!

What an incredible bunch of women you all are. I have never met anyone personally but i do feel like I know some of you after reading so many of your messages!

Funny, yesterday (the day I wrote this) I also woke up with a swollen, painful arm and immediately thought lymphedema (even though i only have very mild LE and it's only been on my thumb!) Today I noticed the back of my arm was hot and red and the redness had traveled to the front of the arm and down towards the hand. I self-diagnosed myself with cellulitis and called the doctor right away who prescribed antibiotics. The point of my story is that it's through these posts that I learn so much --- that is why cellulitis even came to mind, and I knew it's crucial to catch it early!

Your advice, support, encouragement, and sense of humor is what has kept me going over the last couple of years.

    Love you all!

    Jackie

Hi Jacqueline - firstly great news on your three years.  Your current story is so like mine, even to the part where I also have cellulitis right now and am taking antibiotics.  I attended a junior doctor who was beginning to google.  I said.  Listen I was gardening, I got a thorn in my hand, I forgot to disinfect, it's cellulitis, just give me the antibiotics.  Like you, from reading these pages here I knew what it was.  Right now the hotness has gone away, but I still have some splotches of redness, which I hope will go away in the next day or so.  I am 4 years out from my diagnosis and feeling fine otherwise, enjoying life - grabbing the moments.....  Continue to enjoy your life and hope your cellulitis disappears asap.  xx

Jackie - hope the cellulitis is better!

This makes me laugh, because when I got cellulitis, I went into the Dr (not my usual one) and I said "I've got cellulitis". She had a look and agreed and asked if I had a medical background. Ha ha, No, I said, just a very well educated support group!

I am just one year behind you! So glad to hear you are doing so well. I feel great and look "normal" but I still think about cancer too much I think. It is just so hard to push the worry from my mind.
