Im not bragging but...
I ran a 5k today - 3.1 miles - in 25:31 - top 10% of the race, Top 9% in my age range. That is 2 plus minutes faster than I ran it 2 years ago - which was a personal best for me at the time and faster than I had run pre cancer.
So here I am 3 years out and 4-5 mins faster than I was pre cancer. Almost 2 mins per mile faster pre cancer. I am not sure that means much to non-runners - 2 mins really? But trust me it is a big deal.
So I am not coming here to brag (lord knows I am doing enough of that here at home - lol) I am coming here to remind you that this (cancer) does not need to define us or limit us. At least not today.
Here is my the runners blog I write for the newspaper with some pics from today.

Brag till the cows come home!!! That is fantastic, add cancer to the mix and it is unbelievable!!! You have excelled and for that you should be very, very proud!
-
That is awesome! This is one of the many examples that we can provide that life goes on. Two minutes is a HUGE deal, Mary, even without a cancer diagnosis and treatment to compund things.
I have a funny running story. I did a 5K after the first three months of chemo, and when I went to my Oncologist a few days later, I told him I was worried that I wasn't doing well because I felt so slow and tired after that 5K. His response? "Honey, I got people who can't get out of bed when they're taking that stuff!"
You rock, Mary!

Hey, I get it!! LOL. I just ran a half marathon and it was 10 whopping minutes faster than last year. I was so proud!! I've been trying to work on my time and last week I had a new 3 mile PR...24:42. Boo-yah!!
-
Congrats! I've started running in the last year, so I can understand how much an improvement of 2 minutes per mile is!

Great inspriation Ladies! I am about 60lbs over weight and would LOVE to take up running. I actually ran a 5k at my current weight 3 years ago. I now feel soo weak from chemo, rads and just scared plus don't know where to begin. My 5k 3 years ago was poorly trained which I hurt myself running for that long at my weight without proper prep.

Hi Kasey....start slowly. I would do walking as you mention you still are weak. You will be amazed at how even achieving a few milestones makes you feel better. So find your shoes and get out there.
I suspect you are about a year behind me in treatment. I exercised throughout, but I can tell you rads definitely made my energy tank. I did cycling events anyway. So in your case, an "event" might be walking two miles.
You should notice a major energy jump soon. That in itself will make you feel a lot better.
Meanwhile, no reason not to get out there and start walking.
Once you have some of your strength and endurance back, you can go for jogging/running again.
One thing I do is set goals and announce them to my friends. Then I feel shabby if I have to go back and explain why I couln't do them!!!!
So what about a 5k three months from now??? You can either run or walk, but you need to cover the distance. Then find those shoes, and start training. TODAY!!!!! - Claire

Kasey - get in touch with Mary (everyminute) She will get you up and running in no time!

Thanks Ladies! Tomorrow will be 11 weeks PFC and Thursday I will be done with 30 rads treatments. Claire, your right my energy is tanked. I am participating in an oncology rehab program in which I exercise supervised three days a week. My heart rate use to go really high during cardio but has started coming down a bit, which they say is good and shows I am improving. I loved how strong I felt when I ran and can't wait to feel that again. I'm just going to start slow and steady this time so I will stick with it.
