Anyone from Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia area?

Options

There is another "Seattle" thread on BCO ~ but it is posted under the "Chemotherapy" forum, so I wanted to put this out there in case anyone missed it over there.  Plus it seems like a lot of the women in that group aren't as active on the boards anymore, or maybe just too busy to participate? or have moved past BC and are on to bigger and better things. :)

So I'm making a feeble attempt to resurrect something in this area.

I just wanted to see if anyone in the Puget Sound area was interested in having occasional get togethers.  Whether you are newly diagnosed, in the middle of treatment (whether it be surgery, radiation, chemo, popping the Tamoxifen or AI's ~ or a combination of sorts!), or you may have already "been there, done that" and just wanted a good excuse to do an occasional wining, dining and chatting with some BCO ladies. :)

I've met a lot of amazing women on this site...and thought it would be neat to be able to meet some in person too!   I live in Gig Harbor and am game to travel for an occasional get together at a fun bar/restaurant.  Any takers? :)

I would be interested in being involved in something like that.  I just moved back to this area from Everett and have been looking for a group to join.  I currently live in Federal Way, so you can count me as a taker.  Keep me posted if a get together is planned.

Well, I'm a bit north, but it would be good to meet some ladies from the area.

Add me in  as a maybe.  I work in Downtown Seattle and live in south Seattle but I commute by public transport and have 3 monsters so am a bit restricted on what I can squeeze in.  Still happy to chit-chat on line to the extent anyone finds that supportive.

I'll take a maybe! :)  My sister also has 3 monsters so I know how hard it is to schedule an outing!  I only have 1 monster...but he's 6 feet tall  ~ so equivalent to 3. ;)

Count me in. I think some light exercise/walks would be fun for a meet up, if most feel up to it. My schedule depends on what day after treatment I am in:)

I am a little East of Redmond.

I can get to SCCA in 30 minutes outside of rush hours.

I am on Arimidex and feeling better every week now. Only a little headachy so far. Keeping fIngers crossed. Ended rads in March.

I am just getting out again, a little at a time.

    Glad to meet you

    Ginger

I am so glad to see this thread. DH has an interview in Seattle so it could be a strong possibility of moving there. I am currently in metro Detroit and have never been to Seattle and know no one there. It is down to Seattle, Kansas City or Chicago. I will let you know where we end up....would love to meet up if we move there. I finished chemo in early May and have exchange surgery in a few days. I have one almost five year old "monster".

When is your DH's interview? Hopefully he will be here on one of our infrequent sunny days!  Good luck on your surgery,

    Aimee

I would be interested! Also, if there are any Stage IV gals in the Seattle area we have a support group that meets twice a month. It's through the Young Survivors Coalition, the ages in the group range from 30s to 50s. We've found that it's nice to have a group a mets gals to communicate with and get support from.

I also sometimes go to the YSC support group that meets at Gilda's House on capital hill. While the focus of the group is on women diagnosed before age 40, all are welcome. The topics just seem to be more about spouses, raising young kids, etc., and might not be applicable to women in the 70s or 80s. But it's a fun group of gals.

If anyone would like more info, please feel free to PM me!

Hi mdg, I've seen you on other threads...didn't know you might be moving. Like Aimee said, hopefully your hobby will interview on a sunny day! Today is unfortunately, not one of them!

He is going there a week from tomorrow.  I have exchange surgery this Thursday so this week was out.  I hope I can manage with him gone by then after exchange.  I don't really have much help as everyone is busy or works.  I just hope I can drive my son to school.....I guess I will have to be off the pain meds for sure by then.  I will keep you gals posted.  Can anyone give me advice on where we should consider living?  The COL is way higher there than here and we will be going from two incomes down to one too.  We are interested in good schools since we have a little one going to kindergarten in the fall.  My DH will be working about a mile north of downtown if he gets the job so a reasonable commute would be great and he may choose to do public transportation so we can have only 1 car to keep costs down.  Can anyone advise?  Feel free to PM me as I don't want to take over the board with my nonsense!  So far the areas recommended are Bellevue and the NorthShore school districts.  Seems like we can't afford much there at all.....  Any comments, advice, ideas appreciated.   This is one more stressful thing on my plate right now....keeps things interesting!  Thanks in advance for any help with my questions.

Yes, COL can be higher here. Real estate close to Seattle is going to be higher than north or south of the city. If hubby is working real close to downtown than public transportation could be a viable option. For example, there is a commuter train that runs from the south...so you could live somewhere like Puyallup (which has good schools..or so I've heard) and he could hop on the train fairly close by. Feel free to pm me anytime too. And good luck with your exchange surgery...mine was a piece of cake and I was back to work in 5 days. Probably could have gone back sooner. I hope yours goes as well! :)

Are any of you Seattle ladies interested in a free professional portrait session with you and/or your family? My good friend Clane Gessel does this for free. He used to focus on families affected by cystic fibrosis, but that has been hard for him since my husband died. I know that when we are going through this, professional photos are probably the last thing on our minds, but it is wonderful to have beautiful photos. I cherish the photos I have that he took of me and my husband. He will be doing a "cancer" shoot with me soon. There is really no catch, he will take your photos and give you a CD with the digital images. And he is an amazing photographer! PM me if you are interested and I'll hook you up.
